TIL Eartha Kitt - known as the original singer of "Santa Baby" and the voice of Izma in The Emperor's New Groove - was blacklisted by the CIA after telling Lady Bird Johnson, "You send the best of this country off to be shot and maimed. No wonder the kids rebel and take pot."

In Plain Sight: Lady Bird Johnson

Has anyone else been listening to this show? It tells the story of Lady Bird Johnson during the LBJ administration by utilizing a bunch of audio diaries she recorded while in the White House. It might sound boring on paper but I find it absolutely riveting. The host clearly knows her stuff (she wrote a book on Lady Bird) and the production value is top notch and reminds me of classics like Serial and S-Town.

I was never much of a history buff and it was always my worst subject in school, so I figured I’d find this to be boring, but it has been a sleeper hit for me. It is such an intimate retelling of the time and shows how influential Lady Bird was as a partner to Lyndon during an extremely tumultuous presidency that involves the JFK assassination, Vietnam, and Civil Rights.

Has anyone else been listening and enjoying? If not, I hope you try it out!

I use the Mt. Vernon Trail quite frequently and especially during the summer the sun really beats down on you on Columbia Island. There are few trees but definitely could be an area that could have excellent tree cover. Does anyone know why that isn't the case? Is there a concern with GW Parkway being right there that they are a hazard/block views of D.C.?
