Lack Of U.S. Air Support In Ramadi Points To Disguised Darker Aim
Why were there so few U.S. air attacks on the Islamic State attackers when they took Ramadi?
The first excuse put out by the U.S. military was "a sandstorm ate my lunch". That excuse was placed as news in the NYT:
Islamic State fighters used a sandstorm to help seize a critical military advantage in the early hours of the terrorist group’s attack on the provincial Iraqi capital of Ramadi last week, helping to set in motion an assault that forced Iraqi security forces to flee, current and former American officials said Monday.
The stenographer writing the piece did not bother to ask eyewitnesses or to check with some weather service. The myth of the "sandstorm" was thus born and repeated again and again. But people looking at the videos and pictures from the fighting could only see a bright blue sky. The military, though not the NYT, had to retract:
Col. Steve Warren, a Pentagon spokesman, told reporters today that last weekend's sandstorm had not affected the coalition’s ability to launch airstrikes in Ramadi, though “weather was a factor on the ground early on.”
Now the U.S. military needs a new excuse to explain why it does not really bother to attack the Islamic State troops. Again it is the NYT that is willing to stenograph:
American officials say they are not striking significant — and obvious — Islamic State targets out of fear that the attacks will accidentally kill civilians. Killing such innocents could hand the militants a major propaganda coup and alienate both the local Sunni tribesmen, whose support is critical to ousting the militants, and Sunni Arab countries that are part of the American-led coalition.
The alleged restrain in in fear of killing civilians in bonkers. The few U.S. airstrikes on Islamic State targets, though not admitted, have already killed hundreds of civilians.
This excuse for not helping the defenders of Ramadi is also nonsense as many occasions for potential attacks, like the Islamic State parade in this picture, are in areas with no or few civilians around. Why are Islamic State fighters free to travel the roads between Syria and Iraq in mass?
Nether the "sandstrom" excuse nor the "fear" of accidentally killing civilians seem to be an explanation for the decision to not support the Iraqi troops against the Islamic State attacks. A sound explanation can be found in the 2012 Defense Intelligence Agency assessment, recently revealed, that says that the U.S. and the Gulf monarchies do want an Islamic State covering east Syria and west Iraq:
“… there is the possibility of establishing a declared or undeclared Salafist Principality in eastern Syria (Hasaka and Der Zor), and this is exactly what the supporting powers to the opposition want, in order to isolate the Syrian regime, which is considered the strategic depth of the Shia expansion (Iraq and Iran).”
In a recent Sunday show the neocon and former U.S. ambassador to the UN John Bolton put it on the record:
I think our objective should be a new Sunni state out of the western part of Iraq, the eastern part of Syria run by moderates or at least authoritarians who are not radical Islamists. What's left of the state of Iraq, as of right now, is simply a satellite of the Ayatollahs in Tehran. It's not anything we should try to aid.
The U.S. military in the Middle East is not helping the legitimate state of Iraq against the illegitimate Islamic State. It is shaping the environment so that it will allow for a delimited "Salafist Principality" in Syria and Iraq, mostly independent Kurdish areas and a rump state of Shia Iraq.
Not unrelated the Associated Press is running a home story about a nice, Islamic State financed, honeymoon in Raqqa:
The honeymoon was a brief moment for love, away from the front lines of Syria's war. In the capital of the Islamic State group's self-proclaimed "caliphate," Syrian fighter Abu Bilal al-Homsi was united with his Tunisian bride for the first time after months chatting online. They married, then passed the days dining on grilled meats in Raqqa's restaurants, strolling along the Euphrates River and eating ice cream.It was all made possible by the marriage bonus he received from the Islamic State group: $1,500 for him and his wife to get started on a new home, a family — and a honeymoon.
"It has everything one would want for a wedding," al-Homsi said of Raqqa ...
Who paid how much to AP for that Islamic State recruiting advertisement?
The only sound explanation for the very, very limited air support the U.S. is giving to Iraq is its aim of dismembering the Iraqi state and creating a new Sunni state entity under its tutelage. The Iraqi government should finally recognize this and should stay away from U.S. advice and dependency.

The Long War Journal, which is a project of the neocon Foundation for the Defense of Democracies, is bemoaning the arrival of the Popular Mobilization Forces to begin the counteroffensive to retake Ramadi.
This is the pickle the U.S. is now in. The Popular Mobilization Forces, what Irshad @ 1 refers to as the PMU, will triumph over ISIS. Abadi can longer sideline them without himself being sidelined by his parliamentary majority. What does not get mentioned enough in the MSM accounts is that the provincial government of Anbar requested the PMU, undercutting the U.S.-sponsored nonsense that the Shiite militias are purely a manifestation of Iran.
Don't be surprised if the U.S. "accidentally" bombs the PMU again as it did during the battle to retake to Tikrit.

The lack of US air support is exactly correlated with how big the US Empire wants ISIS to be, and where it wants its creation wants to spread. Kobani is the perfect example. Compare the US's unchallenged break out of Isis across Syria and through Iraq for the last four-ish years, and that makes Kobani standout like a giant warning sign telling everyone what they need to know. And that is the action on the ground understanding, which was there before the recent defence intelligence report just came out.
The US creates a bombing corridor through which they want Isis to be blocked off, or not bombed so to allow to spread, in addition with Military weapons support and money by itself and its allies.

USA wants to block Russian and Iranian support, and 'manage' this conflict into the ground.
I think Russia needs to bully its way into lead position. I also think that strategically, the Anbar region should be bypassed, as ISIL basically serve as Sunni defenders so to speak. Consolidate the shia/Assad areas, take strategic points, then open negotiations. Ultimately peace in the region needs to be the goal.
I reckon that if ISIL can't bring the goods (an economy, services,etc), they'll be ousted eventually by the Sunni tribes

And for the time being, that's where he would be, the best position for HA as a member of the Axis of Resistance, otherwise HA would lose its legitimacy against its main enemy, Israel, and as a defender of Lebanon and of Lebanese Shiites.

Why should Shia wage a wide-scale war of attrition over a region that historically isn't Shia? Better to kick the Isilstanis out of the areas they aren't welcome, rebuild those areas, and wait for ISIL to either collapse, or come to the negotiating table.

Two Israeli F16s shot down over Yemen ???
This week two F16s were shot down over Yemen. When the wreckage was examined, both were found to be of types never supplied to an Arab nation, not Saudi Arabia, not anyone. The only “buyer” in the region for that type of plane is Israel.
With two Israeli planes downed this week, fresh Saudi markings painted on them, and a strong confirmation of a tactical thermonuclear attack on a Yemeni airbase, a neutron bomb attack (NRR No Residual Radiation), the Yemen war is now clearly an Israeli war.

By forcing Shiites into the back seat politically, economically, and militarily, the US has hoped to stifle Iran’s development from isolated nation into a regional power. By doing so, the US once again acts in its own interests, as well as those, of course, of Israel, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, and Turkey. Perhaps that grouping of countries rings a bell for people following the development of the war on Syria these past four years? Indeed, it is the same actors.

Photo analysis of the shot down F-16 in Yemen show that they are the early model; block A/B F-16 ground attack configuration version (it has the small or what is called the short tail) with Royal Saudi Air Force markings being newly painted on the air frame. All of the so-called Arab coalition aircraft are block C/D not A/B.
So this is probably one of the 50 surplus US F-16 A models given to Israel during the Clinton administration or it is a recently surplus ex-NATO aircraft either from Italy or Portugal. The only other option is that they were directly supplied from the US covertly. We need a serial no. or tail number to confirm which production block they came from.

Not a far-fetched idea, but it would require a view of the region and the war against IS similar to the one the US and their neo-con planners had when they launched their "caliphate," a coordinated regional strategy between Iraq, Syria, Iran and HA/Lebanon. If you remember, Iraq Shias were fighting in Syria against taqfiris when IS launched the Mosul offensive, and they all ran back to Iraq, instead of assessing the fight in terms of regional needs. IS US-provided high mobility across borders allows them to choose the battlefield, and to take either Iraq or Syria piecemeal at their convenience.

They can't let up in Iraq because they can't allow ISIL to consolidate and move against Syria. Syria and Lebanon are still, IMHO, what the fighting is about here. ISIL will never march on an Iraqi Shia city, but they may well go for Damascus (or allow others to).
The US, in seeking to break up the so-called "Shia Crescent" has actually created a far, far more powerful crescent of Islamic moderates from Iran to Lebanon. My guess is that there are, in the Sunni areas of Iraq just as in Syria, huge numbers of Sunnis (20-30%) who welcome anyone who can eject ISIL from their cities especially under the banner of "Iraq".
The sectarian war is a US/Israel/Saudi myth. If the Iraqi Army along with the Shia Paramilitaries can push ISIS out of Ramadi (and they haven't failed yet when they've fought together, and not given into the US hysterical sectarian scare tactics) they can move onto Mosul and take ISIL real strength away. They need to be pressing a huge social media campaign at the same time (Russia China and Syria should help with this) to combat the social media noise machine of the USA.
Just how I see it.

The USA is caught between no displeasing the Sunni Islamist Axis ( Saudi Arabia, Qatar) and preventing ISIL to reach Jordan and Israel.
Therefore the attacks on ISIL are tepid... so as not to cause Sunni deaths that would irritate the SIA and inflame the anti-US feeling in Iraq.
After the US-Iran deal is hopefully signed, we may see a huge u-turn as the US administration will then throw the carrots and pull the sticks to deal with the SIA.
One more month to go...

Pro-government forces in Iraq have formally launched an operation to drive Islamic State out of Anbar province.
The announcement was made by a spokesman for the Popular Mobilisation (al-Hashid al-Shaabi), a force comprising dozens of Shia militias.
He said the operation would see government troops and militiamen move southwards from Salahuddin province and seek to cut off IS militants in Ramadi.

But he adds that Washington remains uneasy about the prominent role of Shia fighters, many of whom are backed by Iran.
Separately, French Foreign Minister Laurent Fabius criticised the Iraqi government, saying Paris had joined a US-led coalition last year in carrying out air strikes against IS on the basis that Baghdad represented the interests of all groups in the country.

Check your history books.. Iran became shiite in the 16th centry with the Safavids while it was mainly Sunnite before. But the desert between Palmyra and Baghdad had had shiite tribes since the beginning of the schism. And Syria and Lebanon have had shiites and shiite dynasties (Hamdanids anyone?) at least since the 9th c.
The trap is to let a huge Shiite/Sunnite confrontation happen. It failed miserably in Lebanon because Hariri's role was exposed, it failed in part in Syria. But they try again now and then.

A Al-Nusra "official" was interviewed in an undisclosed location on one of the Arabic stations. In essence, he said after Assad is done, they will finish off in Lebanon and eliminate Hizb. Another bloodbath in the making...no surprise.
Given such declarations, it is even more evident that Israel would be overjoyed should ISIS manage to flood south Lebanon in an attempt to overrun Shiite villages and engage HA. The Islamists are probably anticipating logistical support and air cover from the IDF whose desire to see the Shiite militia destroyed is an institutional obsession.
Such a real possibility itself is revealing as a reason behind the ongoing effort and not-so-covert military support ISIS has been receiving to facilitate its bloody advance.
If Israeli surveillance can spot a passenger vehicle with allegedly transporting weapons and destroy it, how is it that massive arms transfers to the jihadis over wide open terrain cannot be interdicted? The western fight against Al Qaeda, Inc. is being fought more with verbal bravado while NATO air strikes may have killed more civilians than militants and have not inflicted any measurable damage as its hordes continue to sweep across swathes of Syrian and Iraqi territory. The growth of the anti-Shia ISIS gangs is largely a result of the outcome of the 2006 conflict in which Israel was not able to cope with the asymmetrical combat tactics employed in south Lebanon against its vast ground and air assault. It has been pining ever since for a way to get rid of the only deterrence to its hegemonic ability to punish its neighbors at will.
Syria was the only power in the Middle East to stand with Iran during the western-instigated war with Iraq and never abandoned Russia after the collapse of the USSR. Despite western desire to bring Syria to heel, nothing would have brought the conflict to its present state without the active role played by Turkey, Saudi Arabia, Qatar and Jordan in providing training grounds, military, financial and recruitment support. To date, Putin along with Iran, has helped buttress the Syrian citadel from collapse. But dire developments of recent require condign action. It seems the time has come for Russia to play hardball.

- I fear the Kurds will be next on the list of ISIS. ISIS needs more revenues and that could come from the oilfields in Kurdistan. Remember that Turkey wants Assad to go and supports ISIS (more or less) openly.

True the Iraqi army has issues but in Ramadi they did as much as they could and extracted themselves to fight another day - rather then be beheaded for the cameras. They also failed to see how the PMU are figthing against Isis and seem to believe Isis is the better force. They forget battles like Amerly and Tikrit - but no - those damn Shias cant do the job without US aircover - which 1. They dont want and 2. The US is not giving anyway. But hey only Team USA can kick a$$!!!

If the US and her regional lackeys have decided that a new Takfiri state needs to be created to wound Iran, whats there to stop Hezbollah - another highly efficient and military capable non state actor - to decide that enough is enough and create a state if its own joining it with the Western Syria thereby cutting the Harriri's out of power and Beirut a no go area for the seedy tourists from the Gulf? Whats good for the goose is good for the gander!
But in Iraq the Shiah Howza including Ay. Sistani have stated that they want a united Iraq - they will not allow Iraq to disintergrate under a Shiah dominated government - as Iraq never broke up under the tyranny of Saddam or the Hashemite monarchy nor the British. They are aware History will damn them if they allow this to happen.
