so i agree with making trash art for run and just because but i don’t agree with the resin bowl maker bc i have seen those videos. not only do they waste new perfectly good materials for (in my opinion) very ugly bowls (the one i saw used a lot of brand new tshirts. someone could have worn those) but it makes a LOOOOOT of resin waste to lathe all that and people have had issues with resin arts waste bc resin is not recyclable nor does it really break down/break down easily.

additionally, i dont really believe this person (or people) are solely making them just to ‘make art’. they seem more in the realm of doing extremely wasteful click baity content for the views (again imo. maybe they are just making it for fun idk)

this is also something i have issue with when it comes to 3d printing. as cool as things look… what happens with all the plastic waste.

make art, have fun with it but at least attempt to and try to be environmentally conscious about the waste ur process and materials are gonna make. esp in this day when our planet is overfilling with over consumption landfill waste. try to repurpose or upcycle old things rather than buying brand new things to waste and trash half of it for a project.

you have to MANUALLY opt out of it as well.

to opt out on desktop, click your blog ➡� blog settings ➡� scroll til you see visibility options and it’ll be the last option to toggle.

to opt out on mobile, click your blog ➡� scroll then click visibility ➡� toggle opt out option.

if you’ve already opted out of showing up in google searches, it’s preselected for you. but you also have to opt out for each blog you own separately, so if you’d like to prevent AI scraping your blog i’d really recommend taking the time to opt out. (source)

people on bluesky have also speculated that this opting out will also do NO GOOD bc even if YOU opt out, people who have reblogged your works and not opted out still count for that work being used. and also, even if u DELETE UR WORK ur posts remain cos tumblr doesn’t like to let shit die ig.

They are already selling data to midjourney, and it's very likely your work is already being used to train their models because you have to OPT OUT of this, not opt in. Very scummy of them to roll this out unannounced.

You can disable this in the visibility settings in your blogs settings, you have to disable it manually for each blog

saying ‘you can disable it’s is misleading. people have speculated they’ve already scraped and gathered data since 2014 and are just waiting for a signed contract to hand it over and leave it up to whoever to decide if they wanna leave the 'opted out’ works in or not. this is NOT a guarantee ur work will not be used. remove ur work or glaze/nightshade them for maximum protection

Hello! Automattic, Tumblr's parent company, will sign a contract with OpenAI and Midjourney so Midjourney can learn off of Tumblr's and WordPress' art and other user data. :) (The full text of this article is copy/pasted in the cut below). You can opt out! but I truly cannot imagine a more idiotic or out of touch decision on the part of Tumblr's CEO.

First thing's first: When/if this goes live, opt out of this immediately. Do this even if you're not an artist. The more people opt out, the less valuable this contract is to Midjourney. in an ideal world, literally all of the active users would opt out, but if we can even get to 50% that's pretty delicious.

Second: Contact Tumblr Support. It's vital that you do this politely. Tumblr staff is not responsible for this decision and the point of doing this is to show the userbase's unwillingness to be involved in this, not harangue Tumblr staff. (Seriously, stop haranguing Tumblr staff). Here's a script:
