Add or remove birthdays, holidays, and other calendars

Birthdays and holidays are automatically added to your calendar so you never miss an opportunity to celebrate. You can also add other calendars, such as phases of the moon and sports team schedules.

Birthdays

Turn off or hide birthdays from your calendar

Hide all birthdays

  1. Open Google Calendar.
  2. Under "My calendars," uncheck Contacts. Calendars with an empty box next to them are hidden.

Hide birthdays from your calendar list

You can hide the Contacts calendar so that it doesn't appear under "My calendars."

  1. Open Google Calendar.
  2. On the left, find "My calendars." You may need to click to expand it.
  3. Point your mouse at "Contacts" and click Options More and then Hide from list.
Edit or remove individual birthdays

Birthdays come from details in your Google Contacts.

Tip: If the person is in your Google Contacts, you can edit or remove the person's birthday at google.com/contacts.

Add birthdays to your calendar

Add the person to Google Contacts and include their birthday. Your calendar updates birthdays from Google Contacts every time it syncs. 

Tips:

  • If you want notifications for a birthday, create a recurring event.
  • You can't add birthdays from Facebook to Google Calendar.
Change the color of birthday events
  1. Open Google Calendar.
  2. On the left, find "My calendars." You may need to click to expand it.
  3. Next to "Contacts," click Options More.
  4. Choose a new color.

Holidays & other calendars

Add or remove national or religious holidays & other calendars
  1. Open Google Calendar.
  2. On the left, next to "Other calendars," click Add other calendars Plus and then Browse calendars of interest.
  3. To add a calendar, check the box next to it.

Optional: To remove a calendar, uncheck the box next to it.

Only show public holidays
  1. Open Google Calendar.
  2. At the top right, click Settings  and then Settings.
  3. On the left panel, click Add calendar and then Browse calendars of interest.
  4. Under "Regional holidays," you can find the holiday calendars you're subscribed to.
  5. Next to your preferred holiday calendar, click the drop-down and select Public holidays only.
Hide all holidays
  1. Open Google Calendar.
  2. On the left under "Other calendars," uncheck Holidays. Calendars with an empty box next to them are hidden.
Change the color of holiday events
  1. Open Google Calendar.
  2. On the left, next to "Other calendars," find the holiday calendar.
  3. Point your mouse at the holiday calendar.
  4. Click Options More .
  5. Choose a new color.
Add the Moon Phases calendar
  1. Open Google Calendar.
  2. At the top right, click Settings  and then Settings.
  3. On the left panel, click Add calendar and then Browse calendars of interest.
  4. Under "Other," check the box next to Phases of the Moon.

 Lunar & alternate calendars

You can also display other kinds of calendars, like specific lunar or solar calendars.

  1. Open Google Calendar.
  2. At the top right, click Settings  and then Settings.
  3. Under "General," click View options.
  4. Click on Alternate calendars.
  5. Select your preferred calendar. 

Tip: To remove an alternate calendar, select None.

Sports calendars

When you use Google Calendar on your computer, you can add other calendars, like sports calendars. 

  1. Open Google Calendar.
  2. On the left, next to "Other calendars," click Add other calendars Plusand then Browse calendars of interest.
  3. Find a sports calendar. To add it to your calendar, check the box next to it.
Tip: After you add the calendar on your computer, it shows up in your Google Calendar app.
