Sixteen years after the world didn't end for the last time, Max Mayfield showed up on Steve’s doorstep and said, “You gonna walk me down the aisle in May or what?” Or, it’s 2002 and Steve Harrington attends a wedding, a funeral, and a birth.

"It isn’t so bad. It’s not like anyone else needs to know about his sexual preferences. It’s not like he has to sacrifice everything he’s ever known.

But Ian was right. And Mickey knows it.

He’ll never be happy like this."

Mickey doesn't come out at the Alibi. He lets Ian leave, and now he has to figure out how to make things right.

“Hannibal,” he thinks he says. He gets told later that he doesn’t really say it at all, but that the entire police station—most of which is waiting outside in the rainy parking lot—hears his voice clattering around inside their skulls like someone standing on a roof banging pots and pans and screaming at the top of his lungs: HANNIBAL, HANNIBAL, HANNIBAL.

    Summary

There’s something settled in the pit of Mike’s stomach, something he hadn’t even felt while standing in that living room, staring down that creepy fucking thing that couldn’t have possibly been Hannah. He thinks the last time he felt this particular brand of awful was when he’d pointed that pistol at Emily. It feels like he’s swallowed a stone, or a piece of hail the size of his fist, the kind he’d only seen once in his life.
“Mike,” the detective who’s interrogating him prompts gently, and Mike hears it as if through water. Guilt, his mind supplies. The stone in your stomach you can’t swallow is guilt. But it’s something more than that too; it’s love, searing and freezing and indigestible.
“Mike, the question was about Josh."
