Australian shares are poised to rise, tracking modest gains in New York as investors looked past the April PPI report and ahead to CPI for further clarity on the rate outlook.

The S&P 500 closed 0.5 per cent to 5246.68, just shy of its record high. The benchmark has advanced 10 per cent year to date. A perceived “soft” CPI report could propel the index to a new record.
