taps the sign: just because you, an adult, enjoyed a YA book does not make it an adult book.
It is fuckin insane the sheer disregard everyone has for covid and how utterly bizarre it feels to be actively losing credibility in people’s eyes just because I take it seriously. Everyone thinks I’m being “silly” but I literally was in the middle of getting a degree in microbiology when this shit started, I was literally taking immunology and virology courses when the pandemic hit, it’s not like I have a poor understanding of the topic. I’ve been watching the death rate and keeping up with the new variants and vaccines and symptoms and I can bring up all the sources I want but it feels useless, nobody wants to hear it, nobody gives a shit.
Literally today a friend did not come for Xmas dinner because we asked them to test before coming and that “minor cold” turned out to be covid. “I feel well, I’d have never guessed covid unless you’d asked me to test!” And that’s exactly the issue. It is NOT a cold. It affects the body in a very different manner but people are equating ‘not feeling too bad’ with ‘not really doing any harm’ and this is Not True.
even asymptomatic infections can cause permanent damage. COVID kills T cells like HIV, in addition to brain damage and multi system organ damage.
but sure. it’s just a cold.
we went from “we’re protecting the most vulnerable (by wearing a mask)” to “the most vulnerable can protect themselves”
we went from “we’re getting vaccinated to protect the people who can’t get vaccinated” to “if you’re unvaccinated you’re selfish and you deserve to die”, because that was the narrative the government pushed when they said “for the unvaccinated, it’s going to be a long winter”, and blamed all of *their* negligence and carelessness, *their* stripping away of protections until there was nothing left, calling protections “restrictions” and leaning heavily on the word “mandate”, calling masks a scarlet letter, on the few people who aren’t vaccinated
i’m serious how many people do you think there are who are actually anti vaxxers? we have far more people who won’t mask, despite being medically capable, because they don’t want to be socially ostracized or it doesn’t fit their aesthetic or it’s not comfortable or they don’t want to be reminded that there’s still a plague that the government isn’t doing anything about, even actively downplaying, we don’t have vaccines that actually *prevent* the virus *completely*, nor do we have very effective treatments, and the treatments we do have, and the vaccines we do have, are becoming increasingly harder to access as they are being monetized
and all i can think about 24/7 is how i didn’t expect this brutal, extremely high consequence selfishness from able bodied leftists
and the fact that i can’t get vaccinated because when i got the first dose it caused my body to attack my muscles and nerves
what about people with guillain barre, who already had it before the plague, what about people with allergies, what about people for whom the vaccines are not effective enough protection because their immune systems are too weak
what about people with cancer and heart and lung disease and people on immunosuppressants or with immunocompromising conditions
we used to have evusheld, but now we don’t. and even when we did, you had to qualify for it, and many of the people who needed it either didn’t qualify at all or qualified but couldn’t pay. we had to fight to get it at all, then it lost effectiveness against the new variants, because new variants just keep coming, because “we don’t want another economy halting lockdown do we”. what about masks. what about air filters. what about uv. you have the money for all these things, but you choose to use it to fund genocide and the military and the cops
and it’s not even that i wish people would start masking again, i wish they would even talk about this, i wish they would support us, i wish they would show outrage. i wish they would protest outside medical facilities that no longer require masking, especially places that used to even *before* the pandemic, like cancer clinics, infusion and dialysis clinics, nicus. i wish they would get fucking angry for us, make posts and videos and infographics, post statistics, talk not only about long covid but about it’s still a death risk
i wish *able bodied leftists* would talk about how there are still people who *can’t* get vaccinated or for whom the vaccines are not effective and they need protection and support, not forced self protection and isolation. talk about how the vaccines do not completely prevent the virus and we need more protections than just that- masks, air filters, uv. talk about how the ceo of delta airlines *asked* the cdc to lower the 15 day quarantine time to 5 days, and then a week or 2 later they did. talk about how we had paid sick days and virtual medical appointments and schooling, which made things easier for many disabled people as well as able bodied people. but it’s silent
and this i think also has a lot to do with the fact that able bodied leftists don’t seem to know what eugenics is.
the cdc’s handling of covid is eugenics. the government’s handling of covid is eugenics. the who’s handling of covid is eugenics.
fauci saying the vulnerable will fall by the wayside, that we’ll just “die off”, is eugenics.
they should invent a type of sleep that makes you feel rested afterwards
cannot stop listening to how to dance ohio this musical was made for me it’s so stimmy and perfect echolalia and it’s Intentional! they did that on purpose!
Hey guys
There’s a post going around about something called the “Invertebrate Studies Institute” needing help. A few comments made on the post made me curious, so I checked it out and it seems sketchy to me.
The institute is a startup and the owner has displayed misogynistic behavior. He made a company and received “$1.3 million in research grants from the USDA and Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation” in 2011, but there aren’t any research papers listed on the ISI website more recent than 2012 (sources: ISI website, People Behind the Science podcast transcript, All Things Bugs LLC webpage). It’s possible his research is still a work in progress, but I would expect to see some genome sequencing work at the least since that seems to be a major focus.
Also, it’s possible to ship frozen specimens in dry ice and have them be fine. Even stuff for molecular work and genome sequencing. So the inability to get help from other research groups, to where they’re asking for a local freezer plug-in, is a bit weird to me.
Some screenshots below the cut, didn’t screenshot everything since it’s mostly just text, but I did cite the sources if you wanna read them yourself.
Not sure what the overall point is of this post is besides “seems sketch to me” but I saw a lot of people worrying on the initial post so I wanted to at least mention this stuff.
Don’t u just love niche academic drama (and by drama I mean one guy being a massive asshole)
Can you believe the OG post is less than 24 hours old
Way that people don’t answer phones because they are so full of scams is one of the prime demonstrating examples for the “American government can’t even govern as the managing committee of Capital in general anymore,” Capital would like people to answer phones but the small group of hyper-rich cranks who run our system don’t care.
If Democrats had an actual leader they could earn some easy points by resolving robocall problem.
If Biden were 20 years younger, this presidency would be going a lot better. He wouldn’t even have to try all that hard.
This post feels ahistorical, or at least ignorant of developments in the last year.
The volume of robocalls and scam texts I have received on my cellphone has dropped massively over the Biden presidency. I used to get daily text messages for Medicare scams related to a third party’s HIPAA leak, daily phone calls for house offers, weekly text messages for car-wrap schemes, and intermittent broadcast phishes and student-loan scams. In the last month, I received four scam calls, three of which were We Buy Houses franchisees, and no scam texts.
But that’s just anecdotal evidence; we need true data. Call-filtering software provider Robokiller says that robocalls were down 21% from H2 2022 to H1 2023, though spam texts were up. I haven’t yet found a comprehensive database.
Are those changes the result of actions taken by the Feds under the Biden administration? I think so.
- Congress passed the TRACED Act in 2019, laying the groundwork for what follows…
- FCC issued rules in 2020 mandating STIR/SHAKEN adoption, which makes Caller ID reliable and, and required NANP telcos to block telcos that don’t implement STIR/SHAKEN.
- Those blocking requirements went into effect in 2021, but they had loopholes.
- FCC effectively killed car warranty phone calls by 2022.
- FCC issued its first rules requiring telecoms to block scam texts in March 2023.
- FCC in June 2023 won convictions of two robocallers, whose calls targeted Black voters with vaccine scaremongering in an effort to convince them to not vote. In a separate docket, the scammers are being charged with elections-related crimes.
- FCC issued rules limiting spammy VoIP providers’ access to NANP phone numbers in September 2023.
- Biden got a third Democrat commissioner appointed to the FCC in October 2023. The new commissioner wasn’t Gigi Sohn, but a 3-2 partisan tilt means that the FCC can actually pass the regulations that Republicans opposed on partisan grounds.
- FCC petitioned Congress in October 2023 for the authority to actually collect the fines it issues to violators.
- FTC (not the FCC) began prosecuting robocallers in July 2023.
- FCC issued a rule blocking the “lead generation” loophole in December 2023, whereby a company would collect consent to send automated messages to you on behalf of a third party, then sell that consent to additional third parties. The FCC is also proposing to make email-to-text services opt-in instead of opt-out, which will close a common spam technique, and to apply a mechanism like STIR/SHAKEN to text messages, which will make it harder to send spam texts without getting caught.
The biggest item on the shopping list would be banning automated phone calls to landlines, making landlines have parity with cellphones, but that’ll require an act of Congress, which will require Dems to win the House in 2024 and hold the Senate and Presidency.
holy shit, you’re right; I haven’t had a car warranty call in months…
saw how to dance in ohio last night and i am still absolutely blown away by how intentionally every single aspect centers and is designed for autistic people. it’s a fucking masterclass in theater accessibility while also being a fun show with catchy songs
still thinking abt it like man. i’m so glad this show exists
When someone asks you where you see yourself in 5 years and you’re like buddy .. im just trying to make it to Friday
This seems perfect for you (found on Facebook)
omg….torn between “this is great” and “why would someone do that”
The “funny” part is, this is actually more regular and makes more sense than real English orthography.
Beware of bird, a dreadful word
That looks like beard but sounds like heard
