new queer terms/slang

you can identify as any of these if you would like to and/or if you relate to any of the twink/otter/bear or femme/butch/futch gay/queer slang but are uncomfortable with using them for whatever reason. there is no gender/orientation affiliated with any of these terms and you dont have to specifically identify as queer, im just using queer as a catch-all. you can also ID as both classic gay/queer slang and these terms if you like. you can also identify as multiple of these terms.

squid: a twink.

octo: an otter.

shark: a bear.

ray: a cub.

sea slug: anyone who feels dysphoric/uncomfortable with any sort of (human) body.

nautilus: xeno-presenting.

anemone: femme.

isopod: butch.

eel: futch.

note: flags will be posted soon, pls dont make your own.

The term Gender Outlaw coined by Kate Bornstein in 1994 was one of the first used to describe what we would now refer to as nonbinary genders. Using the cover of the 2010 updated version of the book of the same name ive designed a pride flag for all the Gender Outlaws out there

Now announcing the launch of the Quoi Identity Survey.
The purpose of this survey is to investigate the identities, demographics, and community involvement of those who affiliate with the quoiromantic, quoisexual, or quoigender umbrellas. Quoiromanticism is a concept that originated from a disidentification with romantic orientation, due to the specific intracommunity norms of the asexual community. The same principle has since been applied to gender and sexuality. However, you do not need to identify with a specific term in order to participate in this survey. If you are unsure whether you are part of the intended demographic, you are invited to err on the side of yes.
Click here to take the survey. It will remain open until April 7th.

Sharing this for a friend. Whether or not you’re quoi, consider sharing it so we can reach more people. Thanks!

Uh. So. I never planned to get very involved in this whole. Thing. But after recent developments I guess I have to??

I was a mod at the Mogai Wiki server, though I wasn't very active. I left today because of the stuff going on and I was having a panic attack from it. So, apparently the admin thought this would be appropriate to send this to me?

No offense, but. what? I never reblogged the post where it said this, nor did I endorse it in general. I reblogged one post of criticism from a different person, and he sent this frankly panic-inducing bullshit to me. Seriously????

If this is how the admin of a wiki takes criticism- even NICE criticism- he should not be running it at all. He especially should not be guilt tripping people for being upset with him. I was taking a break and I have some criticism of what happened.

Coiners build up this community and if you hurt them, you don't get to silence them when they talk about it. This is unbelievable. I can't believe I used to look up to someone who acts like this.

I'm happy this post has gotten notes. But, I'm a bigger blog. When Kris did this to me, I had the means to say something about it, to get people to see it. But smaller creators that don't have such means are not so lucky. Kris was my friend. I was a mod. If he can pull this shit on me, I can't even imagine what he might've done to people without that luxury.

Please, if this behavior bothers you, don't only be upset because of what happened to me. I was not the only one who went through some awful shit today, and I want the community to.... heal, from what happened. I'm no longer in their server for obvious reasons, but if you were/are in there and some shit went down with you, and/or they hurt you, anything, I'm here, and I see you. And I'm incredibly sorry for the stress this has caused everyone. /gen

This is the last post I intend to make on the topic. I'm of course very upset; I'm angry, I'm sad, I'm scared... but the community's going to get through this together, just as we always have. Stay safe.

Anonymous asked:

what would neogenders be defined as then? because i feel like neogenders is a bit TOO broad no? because it’s typically inclusive of other terms like genderfluid or even bigender and stuff and it seems a bit too large of a label to be used for genders that are coined for very specific experiences like xenogenders and how they’re viewed? i completely agree with you about the outdated TYPICAL definition of xenogenders and how it’s way too “nonhuman” despite many humans using them! but i think xenogenders have a shifted a bit in terms of what it actually means but it’s never been declared by many. i see xenogenders that aren’t xenine and those that are tied to binary genders or those that have very complex concepts. i don’t know if this makes sense but neogenders just seems way too vast of a label to slap on everything because trying to swim through so many labels to find more specific / abstract gender experiences seems a bit too arduous. unless there’s another way you define neogenders as, i don’t really like the whole idea of “current labels” being all mixed into one amalgamation, it’s way too broad

I'm not advocating for changing xenogender to neogender. I did very clearly say I don't have anything against xenogender, I just think we should probably work on a better definition, and also use neogender more so that Not Xenogenders are not just like. Thrown under xenogender because there's no other term. Y'feel?

I guess if I had like, MOGAI Powers:tm: somehow and I were going to categorize things, I'd do a couple things:

The default and broad label for like. New gender coinings would be neogender instead of xenogender. Xenogender is used as a default a lot which is a Problem. As the coiner of kenochoric you can probably tell what kinds of struggles I've had </3

The definition of xenogender could be changed to something that is not so centered on 'nonhuman gender experience', while still being inclusive of what it currently has, ie plants, animals, concepts, etc.. At the same time, it would be nice if not everything under the sun (see: kenochoric, aporagender, maverique, etc etc etc) was thrown under xenogender.

There could possibly be a new term that DOES actually have the nonhuman gender experience definition? So that the distinction between the two terms could be more easily accessible for those who find one or the other to be important to their specific identity.

I'm not like, a community leader though. Someone else could probably have a much better idea on how to do it than I do.

wait is kenochoric not considered xenogender??? i’ve always seen xenogender defined as a gender related to objects, plants, emotions, concepts, etc. and kenochoric genders are genders related to kenopsia, right? isn’t kenopsia a concept??

all genuine questions here!!! i’ve always tagged kenochoric genders are xenogenders, but i don’t tag things like aporagenders as xenogenders as they don’t relate to any of the above things. hope this makes sense ^^;; as an archivist, i want to make sure that i have everything right

no, i've been saying for a really long time that kenochoric isn't xenogender xD it's okay though! i get the confusion lol /lh

in response to the tags, please, please do go on about it!! i’m absolutely dedicated to making sure i have everything archived and recorded properly and this is a huge mistake of mine. as it stands i still don’t see why kenochoric isn’t a xenogender, especially under the definition i gave {which, truth be told, is the only definition i’ve ever seen. the ones you mentioned in a few of your recent posts are brand new to me}

alright, in that case buckle down, because trying to explain my own gender identity through text is gonna be a doozy /lh

first and foremost, kenochoric just does not feel like it can be described by any existing language or umbrella. people have tried to put it into them before; xenogender, abinary, aporagender, even neutral, but none seem to... stick. the feeling is it's own, tangible one that feels very distinct from the idea of something like xenogender. like, being referred to as xenogender, even under the context of kenochoric, makes me feel weirdly dysphoric. it feels both too broad and yet also too constricting. xenogender does not seem to properly include everything kenochoric is, nor does kenochoric really feel right under it.

secondly, kenochoric being put under xenogender would erase the like... not xenogenders that are under the term. for instance, stuff like agender, gendervoid, and neagender are under kenochoric, and those are definitely not xenogenders. while i did base kenochoric on, well, kenopsia, not every gender under it is directly, inherently linked to the concept of it. moreso, kenochoric encompasses any gender that might evoke that similar "vibe."

kenochoric has a similar thing with xenogender where properly defining it in text, how someone uses it and feels about it, is going to vary and feel nearly impossible to make a neat definition for. i've made a whole damn carrd for kenochoric and yet it's description never feels to be as specific yet inclusive as i want it to be, because at the end of the day a feeling can never be described completely perfectly when it's very nature is vague and weird and personal.

i have, in the past, considered the idea that i might have internalized anti-xenogender feelings about myself, and it's only really gotten more intense because of how many people don't understand the distinction between kenochoric and xenogender. and honestly? i don't get it either. what i do know is i'm kenochoric, but i'm not xenogender, even though a lot of my KEIN identities could technically count as xenic to other people. i don't think it is internalized -phobia though, since making kenochoric a xenogender would make my life way easier LMAO /lh

i guess the best way i can explain it is: what things that tie to masculinity, femininity, neutrality, androgynity, outherinity, and all that, are non-xenic? like, technically, all of those are also based off of ideas, concepts, notions that we've prescribed to them... and i guess kenochoric is the same way? it's got its own "vibe," it's own qualities and separation from other categories, on the same playing field as masc, fem, xenic, neut, etc., rather than being a subterm of any of those.

to be clear there can be kenic xenogenders, xenic kenogenders, and all that, just like you can have xenic masculine genders and masc xenogenders, kenochoric as a whole/umbrella just is not xenic or anything else. it's kenochoric.

it's 1 AM here so i deeply apologize if literally none of this makes sense, i tried my best xD

Normalize letting yourself exist in in this space without feeling a need to conform and be super professional or stylized. You do not need perfectly composed banners and formatting with pretty colors and emojis. If you simply exist here and make things- or even if you don't make things, but participate in other ways- you're still one of us if you want to be.

Normalize being a MOGAI blog that has fun with what you're doing without a need to jump into fights. You do not need to pick sides or get into discourse to be a community member. You do not need a long, extensive DNI detailing every single one of your beliefs. You do not need to be a hero to exist in a community.

Normalize having a MOGAI blog that is a fun hobby instead of feeling like it's a major stressor in your life. You're not running a company, it's your blog, your space, and it's supposed to be fun. If running a blog feels more like a stressful chore than a hobby, something is likely wrong.

Normalize having a MOGAI blog that does not share every detail about yourself. You don't want to share exact details about your name, your personal life, or anything else? That is perfectly acceptable. You're not being checked by border control, you're running a blog on the internet, and how anonymous you are about yourself on the internet is your decision alone.

Normalize being a blog that does your own thing. A lot of us MOGAI blogs are connected together in a big web and communicate/share issues and things together. But if you're more of a lone wolf and want to do things your way, that is the healthy thing to do and there's nobody stopping you.
