Lego XL-15 Lego XL-15
Review

Here's a mini-ramble about the XL-15 set:

I bought the 76832 XL-15 Spaceship a while ago because I thought it was looked cool more than anything. It's been sitting on my desk for a few months and I think it's my favorite set.

While I've seen Lightyear, I wasn't a huge fan (it was fine, I don't have any problems with the movie, but it wasn't particularly memorable) so I can't speak much as to how movie accurate it is, but the overall build looks really solid. I'm a big fan of the cockpit (the way the joystick and HUD are integrated is really cool and it's a nice touch that there's built-in room for the robot cat), wing angles, and back storage compartments in particular. Originally, I didn't like the display plaque very much, and it would've been preferable it wasn't stickered, but over time it's really grown on me. For a set that cost me somewhere around $40 I'm really pleased. The minifigures are really good looking too and the custom helmets two of them get are really fun to play with.

Having fun with 2 LEGO CITY SPACE sets Having fun with 2 LEGO CITY SPACE sets
Review

Picked up 2 different LEGO sets from their LEGO City Space series.

LEGO set 60428 is the Space Construction Mech that comes with a space minifig, a mining mech, a small robot, and landscape including two purple crystals.

Then there's LEGO set 60429, which is the Spaceship and Asteroid Discovery set. This comes with a spaceship, 2 space minifigs (one blue suit and one green suit), a green alien creature, a winch, and a space lab.

Both took about the same amount of time to build, although the mech had more detail than the other set, obviously because 60429 is designed for younger builders.

Space Construction Mech and the Asteroid Discovery sets working together.

The two sort of flesh out a backstory where the purple crystals are being used to power their ships and equipment. You can see this in the space lap console, which shows the crystals being used for batteries and how the batteries have the same color. Also the storage container behind the cockpit of the ship holds one of the purple crystals. This should make things interesting considering one of the Series 26 minifigs are also made of the same purple crystals.

In all, not bad, although the new look of space minifigs contrast with the more traditional space minifigs.

There is one suggestion to make, and that is when you are building the wench, put the top part together before putting the black circle piece in the hub. That way you won't accidentally break the joint. Just an observation when putting it together.

Didn't upload any pics because the ones I took are even worse than the box art ones. Despite a lot of negative impressions upon announcement, having now built this set myself, it's actually quite solid ... literally. The car and robot modes both just look way better than the pictures and the build as a whole just feels very solid in hand unlike the Optimus Prime which felt quite delicate when trying to transform. Very happy that I went ahead and got it.

Does anyone else really like the new paper bags? Does anyone else really like the new paper bags?

I just got the new vintage radio set yesterday and I was surprised to find paper bags instead of plastic ones, and I can't quite explain it but they make the building expirence so much better. It's so fun to open it compared to plastic bags and they're generally better for the environment. That's pretty much all I wanted to say, this is a paper bag appreciateon post

Thoughts on 75356 StarWars Executor Thoughts on 75356 StarWars Executor

I already built the Falcon from the new midi series and was pleasantly suprised with it: good price, no stickers and no off coloured pieces visible form the outside (which is a miracle considering the amount of needlessly rainbow coloured in both sets). The Executor has pretty much the same going for it except that the price per piece is a lot higher (just LEGO exclusive things I guess). What actually bothered me is the trend of cost cutting, for example the use of a 4x6 tile modified with studs on edges instead of a regular 4x6 plates. It propably cost them fractions of a cent to pick the part which is infinitly more usefull in the long run. On top of that they gave me a warped wedge plate, which is unfortunately at the very front giving the set a ridiculous look. I've been absent from LEGO since primary school (12y) and these things just wouldn't have happend back then. I was excited to dip my feet back into bricks but I wonder weither my favourite toy brand from childhood has kept its spirit
