Back half of the season just released….when they brought to bull pig back to impregnate the sows and do the Harrowing all over again…..I just said immediately and out loud…..
“I don’t want to do this again!”
But, they really highlight the shows brilliance in this way. Us viewers can have the luxury to say “I won’t do this again. He should have sold the pigs off and moved on”. But a farmer would have to do it again. They have money sunk into this livestock. They have no choice. They just have to innovate and find ways to make it go better. And they did.
It’s just brilliant how they don’t shy away from those realities in the story they have to tell.
Similar example with the deer. Everything they said about why they need to cull the population down makes total sense and I can agree with. All I knew is I didn’t want to be one to have to do it and I didn’t want to see it.
And after some teasing of it we didn’t have to see it. But in that teasing up and then ultimately not watching deer getting dropped they did the perfect job of highlighting the realities again for what it means to farm.
