The Warriors won just about every statistical category in the second half, but the damage was done in the first. In the end, the numbers look pretty tight at full-time despite the Roosters’ dominance on the scoreline.

Roosters romp complete, 38-18

The Warriors spill the ball on an attacking raid with half a minute left and both teams have had enough, with the game officially coming to a close about an hour after it was practically finished as a contest.

It’s another great result for the Roosters who are on the up after a disappointing 2023 season, and bolstered by the news of David Fifita’s signing for next season.

The Warriors have now lost four games on the trot and also appear to have lost Shaun Johnson to a pec injury.

Looking ahead to next week, both these teams face tough challenges in Brisbane for Magic Round. The Roosters take on the league-leading Sharks in what is shaping up as a genuine blockbuster on Saturday, while the Warriors face premiers Penrith on Sunday.

Walker’s on the scoreboard

More magic from the Roosters. Luke Keary chips over the top, Charnze Nicoll-Klokstad can’t clean it up and Sam Walker grabs the loose ball to score. The Bunker confirms that James Tedesco didn’t get a hand on the loose ball as it trickled along the ground, and awards Walker the try. He adds the extras.

Meanwhile, word from the Warriors sheds is that Shaun Johnson appears to be in increasing pain from his neck injury, with fears the star playmaker could spend the next few weeks on the sidelines. And now hooker Freddy Lussick has been subbed on and subbed off again within a minute of game time, having suffered another injury.

It hasn’t been a good afternoon for the New Zealanders.

Fonua-Blake crashes over as Johnson leaves the field

Star Warriors prop Addin Fonua-Blake finds himself with the ball on the last tackle, 10 metres out from the Roosters’ line and with nothing on. So he puts his head down, runs straight and carries a few defenders over, scoring his team’s third try of the day.

The Warriors are officially winning the second half, though Shaun Johnson is now off the field with his pec injury.

Visitors score their second

A penalty gives the Warriors a full set of six on the Roosters’ line and they make the most of it, with a strong run from Charnze Nicoll-Klokstad doing the trick and getting the visitors into double figures.

Shaun Johnson still isn’t kicking goals so Adam Pompey adds the extras. Roosters 32, Warriors 12 with 17 minutes remaining.

Normal service resumes as Tedesco scores

The Roosters’ reply is almost immediate. Joseph Suaalii takes a sharp pass from centre partner Joey Manu and busts through the Warriors’ defensive line, draws the fullback and offloads to James Tedesco who trots over for the home team’s sixth try of the afternoon.

The Warriors are in!

It’s happened at last! Almost certainly too little, too late but the Warriors have scored through Edward Kosi – who takes a sublime, lofted cut-out ball from Shaun Johnson and dives over in the left corner.

Finally some sign of life from the visitors, and a good sign too that the injury Johnson suffered in the first half doesn’t appear too serious.

Still, it’s notable that he’s not kicking goals. Instead, Adam Pompey converts from the sideline and it’s Roosters 26, Warriors 6.
