Trade partners applaud gas certainty; trouble brews for Labor at home
Canberra/Tokyo: Some of the nation’s leading trading partners have applauded the Albanese government for providing them with security on gas imports, while the prime minister and senior ministers sought to quell backbench unrest among those opposed to fossil fuels.
Although the Future Gas Strategy does nothing more than articulate what has always been Labor’s position, its publication, aimed at shoring up support in the politically crucial resource states of Western Australia and Queensland and reassuring trade partners, has sparked panic among MPs.
