Why YSK: That classic fresh-cut lawn scent? It's actually your grass screaming for help. Mowing doesn't just trim your turf, it stresses it out.
When grass is cut, it releases chemical compounds called green leaf volatiles. This signals the plant to start repair at the wound site. It also warns nearby grass of the incoming threat.
Amazingly, the smell of cut grass impacts us too. Research shows green leaf volatiles can help in reducing anxiety and boost relaxation and joy. So while your grass is chemically screaming, you may be unwittingly mellowing out.
