Who’s the 2022 “Days of Wonder?”

I have not been active in the hobby for a terribly long time but long enough to remember that it used to be that the release of information for Days of Wonder’s annual game was a BIG DEAL.

Some games hit the hotness because of the designer or the IP. But it feels like its own unique thing when a game gets love simply because of who is making it and their reputation.

I think it’s clear that Stonemaier took the baton from Days of Wonder and maybe they still have the championship belt… but maybe not.

Is there a publisher you consider to be at the height of the hype? Or is there one that’s personal to you? Like you’ve got a notification alert anytime restoration games or 25th Century makes an announcement?

10 years of /r/boardgames, 10 days of giveaways: The GRAND FINALE (with Fantasy Flight Games, Z-Man Games, Plaid Hat Games, Space Cowboys, Catan Studios, Days of Wonder, and Heidelbar)(WORLDWIDE)

To help mark 10 years of /r/boardgames, we’re hosting a series of great giveaways from some of your favorite designers, publishers, and retailers!

Today’s giveaway comes to us courtesy of Fantasy Flight Games, Z-Man Games, Plaid Hat Games, Catan Studios, Space Cowboys, Days of Wonder, and Heidelbär, each of which has offered a game for today’s giveaway:

  • A copy of Fallout from FFG

  • A copy of Taj Mahal from Z-Man

  • A copy of Starship Samurai from Plaid Hat Games

  • A copy of Catan from, well, Catan Studios

  • A copy of Splendor from Space Cowboys

  • A copy of Ticket to Ride: New York from Days of Wonder

  • A copy of Tags from Heidelbär

To enter

To be eligible to win, you must have previously commented in r/boardgames prior to Sept. 15.

To enter, all you have to do is leave a top-level comment answering the following question:

Okay, seriously -- what’s your all-time favorite game, and why?

Winners will be randomly selected from qualifying comments.

Shipping

This giveaway will ship WORLDWIDE. Thanks again to these companies for their generosity.

The fine print

These giveaways are open until 5:30 a.m. Pacific time the day after they are posted. Comments made after 5:30 a.m. will not be eligible to win. Each day, I will make a new post announcing the winners of the previous day’s giveaway. They will be tagged in the post, and notified via private message. WINNERS WILL HAVE 48 HOURS TO RESPOND. If you don’t expect to be able to log in for two days after a giveaway, please do not enter. If a winner does not respond within 48 hours, another winner will be selected.

To simplify things for the companies who have donated prizes (and to help prevent the same person winning multiple prizes), I will be collecting shipping information and passing it on to the donors. This will include collecting a valid name and shipping address, and in some cases, a phone number. If you aren’t comfortable providing this information, please do not enter.

Previous giveaway winners are not eligible to win additional giveaways. Anyone caught attempting to game the system by leaving multiple comments in a single post will be disqualified from this and all subsequent giveaways.

If you’re eligible for two giveaways in a single day, you may enter both, though we ask you to consider your level of interest in the specific prizes before doing so, out of consideration for those who may be eligible for only one giveaway.

Before anyone accuses the mod team of being too r/hailcorporate, everyone who replied to our solicitations for donations was exceptionally cool about the whole thing, and grateful to r/boardgames for the community we provide. This is not the time to disparage or air grievances with the companies providing prizes for these giveaways.

Mods are not eligible to win any of these giveaways.

I’ll be turning notifications off on this post, in order to prevent a relentless barrage of orangereds, so if you have additional questions, please contact us via modmail, or send me a PM.

Good luck!

Days of Wonder website has stopped selling boardgames

I wonder if this is related to Asmodee restructuring distribution. This is what their website now says (same for USA and EU):

We no longer sell physical products (boardgames, expansions, etc.) from our Web site. To buy our games, you can find a local retailer in your area by using our Store Locator or you can order from most major online stores.

They still sell small extras and replacements.

[WSIG] Days of Wonder type games?

So I've recently got into board games, and I'm loving Ticket to Ride and Smallworld. I like that you can play them with 2 people, but that they also scale up easily, and that they are easy to learn but involve some strategy.

What else would fit this criteria? I like player interaction in games. I also own Pandemic, Dominion, Star Realms and Sheriff of Nottingham. Tried Forbidden Island but I felt that Pandemic covered that style enough for me. Also, the deck building mechanic is not my favourite, like in Dominion.

I like Betrayal too, but I worry that it will be boring with 2.

Long overdue shout out to Days of Wonder

Bought a copy of Ticket To Ride, but was missing a yellow train card. They sent me a card, but it was the wrong edition (I had the old one). When I mentioned this they sent an ENTIRE DECK, and a nice message. Its people like this that make the board game community great.

Edit: My support was actually processed through Asmodee, my bad. Thanks Asmodee!

Thank you Days of Wonder for including this with Quadropolis!

I know that this has been included in the rules of games such as Smallworld but I was so happy to see this as the first thing when I opened my box!

I also have to say not only is it an awesome game to play, I am in love with the insert. No need for foamcore here!

A bit of love for Days of Wonder customer support

My wife is a huge fan of Smallworld, so when a sale came up for Smallworld: Underground, we grabbed it. We ordered from a local online retailer who had it for 1/2 off the MSRP. The game shipped and when it arrived we were disappointed: we got a french copy. Despite being from Ontario, our french skills aren't the best so we emailed the online store about the issue.

They apologized but said they couldn't take it back, as it was the publishers fault and would refund us the full price of the game, but not the shipping. They then suggested we sell it off on eBay to fund a copy of the english game. Later that day we noticed they refunded the shipping too, so we were essentially left with a completely free game, albeit, in french.

Awesome right? We downloaded the english instructions and proceeded to figure out what our "Feux Follets" could do. About a week later a friend suggested we try Days of Wonder support to see if they would send the english board bits. Keep in mind, we've now paid nothing for this game so I'm not expecting the company to support it.

We got an email almost immediately "My apologies for the mix up, I will send English replacements out today." I was perfectly fine to play in french, but these guys have gone the extra mile and supported a game they ate the cost on, as well as the shipping and extra pieces.

Customer for life. Thanks Days of Wonder!!

tl;dr: Got shipped a game in french, got fully refunded, Days sends english pieces. Days rocks.

What board game is CGE and Days of Wonder releasing this year?

I am new to board gaming and I know these are two of the higher profile game developers. I read that they usually release just one new game a year and I’m curious if any info is out there about their 2021 releases?
