Modern Trek giving older women their due.

Having recently turned 50, one thing I love about modern Trek is the women over 50 that have been cast in roles of significant authority that are highly intelligent, capable of kicking ass and are vibrant, brave, confident and not portrayed as dusty old women that have no sexuality. Hollywood too often thinks women over 40 are only moms and should be dressed like the Golden Girls.

The actresses that portray T'Rina, Una, Laris, Laira Rillak, Georgiou, Osyraa, Amanda, Katrina Cornwell, Ro, Crusher, Troi, Seven, Raffi, and Reno are all over 50. Batel is 42

edit: Also Pelia, Hernandez and Freeman. Freeman is drawn with crow's feet.

In all previous incarnations of Trek, romance and sexuality was reserved for younger women in their 30s. Look at Pulaski, Diana Muldaur was only 49 when she was cast (The same age as Rebecca Romijn when she was cast as Una), but they took this beautiful woman and gave her a granny haircut, a smock uniform, and when she asserted her authority, no one liked it.

I just wanted to throw that out there!
