I’m off work and having a Brad Pitt movie day, started with Interview with a vampire and landed myself upon Meet Joe Black, what a movie. I laughed I cried, so weird. And definitely wasn’t expecting it to go the way it did. One thing that threw me was the daughter. It felt like she was always hestitating on every thing she was saying. Or what she wanted to say. She always had that look on her face of being somewhat sad and confused.
I’m confused because it felt like a drama but also had some romance to it. Then the father goes and the old man is back, it’s all just a bit much for me with the writing.
Can someone talk to me about this film?
if you want to watch it , it’s free on TUBI

I've been rewatching UK2 and I don't know who Joe pissed off behind the scenes but they should never have been bottom 2 both times they were eliminated... actually the first episode I thought they could've been in the top potentially winning, bottom 2... I don't think.
And ruruvision... yes bananadrama wasn't as good as ukd but why did the edit make out like it was a trainwreck when it was okay at worst and Joe could've been saved from runway alone as they were equal to the other girls in the group (minus tia, who was the best, better than some girls in ukd but also lands in the bottom)
The bottom 2 should've been sister and ellie

Speaking my truth here. 90 minutes of story stretched to 180. Pitt giving the Fraser George of the Jungle performance with none of his natural charisma and comedic timing. A wholly unmotivated romance. Endless corporate board meeting scenes. No real drama or tension due to the two leads being required to be cryptic about the catalyst for the plot. Joe seems needlessly cruel which makes none of his comedic scenes land. Add to that the aforementioned charisma void Brest put him in for majority of the movie and you’re left with Hopkins flailing for a life raft.
The only actual fun things are unintended: a car crash and Pitt’s patois accent.
Gigli, otoh, is so much more unhinged and genuinely bizarre. It’s really the difference between a fun bad movie and a boring bad movie. I truly hope this is not a hot take!

I must have seen this movie dozens of times since its release in 1998, but as I was watching it again last night I had an astounding realization about a scene that made the ending make so much more sense.
Near the ending, at Bill's birthday party, Susan and Joe are having a conversation about their love for each other. The orchestra in the background is playing a happy, loving tune and Joe contemplates telling her his secret when Susan mentions the coffee shop where they met and the things he said to her. At that moment the orchestra ends the happy song they were playing and a more somber tone takes over the scene. Joe whispers, "The coffee shop."
It's so subtle a thing, and again it took me twenty-six years to realize it, but It was at that moment that Joe realizes Susan isn't in love with him, she's in love with the man she met at the coffee shop. And it has an overwhelming effect on him. It was at that moment he knew he couldn't tell her who he really was nor could he ask her to go with him even though she suggested it. Death, the most feared of all the Spirits, suddenly felt overwhelming sadness and despair and his entire plan for his "life" with her suddenly crumbled before him. And so he kisses her one last time, and she remarks that it felt like goodbye and during that interaction Susan realizes he isn't the man she met at the coffee shop. He didn't want her to be unhappy, so he promised her that she would always have what she found in the coffee shop. That was Death's gift to her for the love he felt for her and knew they could never have together. And so he thanks her for loving him and they separate.
Wow. I wish I had realized this sooner, but now that I have, I am so glad that I did.
On a side note, as Susan and her new love walked hand-in-hand back to the party, I couldn't help but wonder how they were going to explain everything and how "Joe" suddenly forgot about being an IRS Agent. 😆

Recently rewatched Meet Joe Black (1998)...I had forgotten just how GOOD of a movie it is. yeah, it's a little slow; it's story driven, and it's long, coming in at 3 hrs...but the cast is stellar and the performances equally so.
Cast:
Brad Pitt
Anthony Hopkins
Claire Forlani
Jake Webber
Jeffrey Tambor
Directed by: Martin Brest (Scent of a Woman, Midnight Run, Beverly Hills Cop)
I've been on a nostalgia kick, watching a bunch of movies from the 90's and early 2000's purely for the LACK of overly saturated CG and pacing like a video game.

Maybe not the worst, but the fact that altogether the films are almost 8 hours, certainly must put it up there for the hardest watch
EDIT: To be clear, the episodes have been fantastic. Just couldn’t believe how bad the movies were

Ugly Casanova is a band created by Isaac Brock in 1997 they have released one album, Sharpen Your Teeth in 2002. Spotify Description: "According to legend, "Ugly Casanova" is the pen name used by a crazed fan named Edgar Graham who broke into the band's show in Denver in 1998. Intrigued by the man's journals full of potential song lyrics, frontman Issac Brock assembled a hodgepodge of Pacific Northwestern friends to realize some of the words as songs in 2000."
