educational podcasts by women?

this is gonna sound so bad but i hate hearing men talk 😭 it irritates me at times and im not sure why. as for the podcast, it doesn’t have to be learning about academic stuff, just something interesting and unique. something similar to american hysteria by chelsey weber-smith. i also like the way that the crime junkie hosts talk, but i feel like the way they cover crime is icky :(

I’ve unconsciously made the switch from true crime podcasts to political comedy, economic, and educational podcasts and I feel..better?

I’ve dropped a lot of the true crime podcasts I was devoted to over the years —My Favorite Murder, Small Town Dicks, Big Mad True Crime, Mens Rea, etc.—and primarily listen to things like Ologies, Lovett or Leave it, This is Love, Maintenance Phase and Romancing the Pod and I feel like my mental health has really taken a turn for the better.

I don’t know when this happened. I really don’t know why. But I was wondering if anyone else is turning away from true crime and into other genres of podcasts?

What are your other favorite educational podcasts?

Edit: Holy shit, you're all amazing. I can't respond to each of you but thank you so much for the suggestions!

Basically I have no education beyond a high school diploma, and I got good grades but it didn't matter because the curriculum was crap. I want to learn still, I'm curious about so many things, but I have major ADHD and reading has become, uh, complicated.

At this point I've listened to the OJ episodes, Anna Nicole Smith, Tuskeegee and basically the first quarter of YWA's playlist like ten times each by now. I love Mike and Sarah together so much, lol. But I need to start tapering other stuff in.

So what are your other favorite, similar-to-YWA podcasts? I still need to listen to Why Are Dads and Maintenance Phase obviously. Ideally they would be more educational and not true-crimey, but as long as the series is trustworthy accuracy-wise I'll listen to almost anything.

Is there a Informative and Educational NASA or Space podcast?

The headline pretty much explains it. Basically I want an NASA or space podcast that is informative and Educational because I just love space and wanna learn more (also about missions). And in the next time I will have a long car trip and I can’t watch videos or read very well while being in a car drive, I got a sensitive stomach that makes me feel dizzy after long time not looking outside! Thanks for every answers.

Looking for an educational league of legends podcasts

Just like the title says, I'm looking for some educational league podcasts to listen to. I've been playing for around a year now and I'm looking to broaden my knowledge while being unable to watch videos.

Looking for podcasts that go in depth around specific topics every episode. I am a top main (and as of recently support too) but I am not necessarily looking for podcasts related to the top lane as I believe knowing the game from all perspectives is a very beneficial tool for success. It can be pretty much any topic from draft (soloq or 5v5 flex/clash), to Laning phase to macro to vision to objectives to game plan to..well, anything.

Thanks!

Does anyone have any reccomendations for educational podcasts that teach about things that are actually applicable to everyday life? I’m asking because many times when I listen to educational podcasts the information I’m learning feels useless.

I did not pay attention in history in high school and I am now feeling very uneducated.

What are some good podcasts that cover the main “points” of history?

Educational Podcasts You Listen To

Inspired by the other thread about sharing more drug development content on this forum vs layoff posts, I realized one good way to do find similar content is podcasts.

So what drug development/biotech/pharma/science podcasts do you all listen to, and why do you like them?

I will start by recommending "Business of Biotech". The format is they interview a different C-suite person from a biotech each week and talk about their experience, career, current company/program, philosophy on drug development, etc. So different topics come up, for example, how a company was previously developing a certain asset and then decided to shelve it and pivot to a different asset-- what the thought process was and how they decided to go after a different target in the space.

Not every episode is a homerun, but I've listened to a lot of good ones on it. What other ones do you all listen to?

Educational podcast recs bc I feel sad and empty

I just graduated college with majors in broadcast journalism and political science! It’s cool and I’m happy and I start a full time job next month that’s exactly what I want to do. However, despite all of these cool and fun things, I am exceptionally sad.

It’s feels like a plague. Not entirely sure what to do about it but that’s not the point of this. The point is, now that I’ve graduated, I’m scared that my lack of being in school is going to leave an education void in both my heart and brain. I don’t want to stop learning, I actually really enjoyed going to lecture and talking to professors. So now that I have more time on my hands, I’m want to start reading more and listening to podcasts more. I’m looking for good educational podcast. Topics can range, I’m interested in Latin American and Middle Eastern politics (politics in general really), history, constitutional law, literature, stuff like that (sorry that’s kind of vague).

I listen to podcasts on spotify if that changes things! Thank you in advance! :)

I am John Green, author of The Fault in Our Stars and now a new nonfiction book, The Anthropocene Reviewed. I also cofounded educational YouTube channels like Crash Course. AMA!

Hi, reddit. I've done an AMA around the launch of each of my books since 2012, and here I am again.

I've written several novels, including The Fault in Our Stars and Turtles All the Way Down. Last month, I published The Anthropocene Reviewed. It's my first book of nonfiction--a series of essays reviewing a wide range of topics (from Super Mario Kart to bubonic plague) that is also an attempt to reckon with our strange historical moment, and my personal battle against despair.

Library Journal called the book “essential to the human conversation," and the San Francisco Chronicle called it "a reminder of what it is to feel small and human, in the best possible way." It was also chosen by Amazon as a best book of the year so far, and debuted at #1 on the NYT bestseller list, all of which meant a lot to me because this book is so different from my previous work and I had no idea if people would like it.

What else? With my brother Hank, I co-created several popular YouTube series, including Crash Course and the very long-running vlogbrothers channel. Crash Course is used by more than 70 million students a year.

Other things I work on: The Life's Library Book Club, an online book club of over 9,000 members that reads together and raises money for charity; a multiyear project with Partners in Health to support the strengthening of the healthcare system in Sierra Leone; the long-running podcast Dear Hank and John; and the podcast The Anthropocene Reviewed, which is where the book got its start.

Lastly, I did sign all 250,000 copies of the first printing of The Anthropocene Reviewed book (which took around 480 hours), so if you get the hardcover U.S. edition, it will be signed--at least as long as supplies last.

Educational podcasts that are currently making episodes about literally anything other than the coronavirus?

So most of the podcasts I usually listen to about economics, politics, science, culture, etc. are constantly talking about Covid-19, which is understandable but at this point, I desperately want to hear about literally anything else. I usually listen to Planet Money, Marketplace, Science Vs, Every Little Thing, Reply All, 99% Invisible, Make Me Smart, No Such Thing As a Fish, BBC Global News Podcast, and a few others. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Casual But Educational Podcasts

Do others enjoy listening to podcasts to learn about new topics/ideas? I know of few, but would love to get more suggestions on who people love to listen to casually but still learn new stuff

My favorites:

Discovering Academia - newer pod but interviews a wide range of professors without being too technical

Huberman Lab - great when I am wanting to hear about health and human performance

Lex Fridman - great for socially challenging topics and more tech/engineering based topics

Conversations with Tyler- run by a professor talking with "underrated thinkers" from many disciplines

New educational show/podcast Chatty Gratty

Hi, my name is Gratty. I am an avid MOBA player and I like to play Predecessor daily. As a player, I have noticed a significant lack of educational content available at the moment, so I hope to bring some value to other players on that front.

I recently started a show called "Chatty Gratty" to talk about the game and attempt to help people learn more. I have 3 episodes available covering ADC, Support, and Mid. My next episode on my Twitch channel is tomorrow at 9 PM EST, covering the Jungle role. The link is below.

https://www.twitch.tv/gratty

After each day I post the Twitch VOD on YouTube for people who were unable to attend the live session.

So far I have received a lot of positive feedback about my shows. People have begun to enjoy them, so I plan to improve as much as possible. I am always open to any form of feedback, whether positive or negative. Please use this post as a medium to provide feedback if you wish. :)

For reference, here is the link to last weeks Midlane episode

Educational/history podcasts without the host's "personality"?

Just finished Casefile True Crime and loved it. The episodes are more like an audio documentary. I really don't like podcasts where the host talks about their life, personal opinions, etc.

I'm interested in history or any interesting breakdown of events, ideas, concepts, as long as I don't need to have a "relationship" with the host.

Any suggestions?

Best 30 minute and under educational podcasts?

Wanting to learn more about philosophy, history, ethical issues, psychology. Not really interested in science or medical things unfortunately. I have ADHD and a really short attention span so I find I tend to zone out after 30 minutes. Any suggestions? I love podcasts like the inquiry, intelligence squared debates, philosophize this, and tides of history but they are so long sometimes.

Educational, not while running, podcasts?

Most of the podcast threads here are about what to listen to while running. I am looking for podcasts geared more toward educational running topics, health sciences, strategies, PTs, interviews with experts, etc. to listen to while at work that I can learn from and not necessarily be entertained by.

I recently discovered “Science of Ultra” and am looking for other similar casts, preferably geared towards distance running, health, diet, and recovery. Thanks!
