[Hiring] Artist to help design Podcast Thumbnail and poster artwork

Hey Everyone!
My names Nick - I am currently set to Direct an Audio Drama Horror podcast that’s in development. We’re looking to get some artwork done to put an image to all the work that’s gone into this.

PROJECT DESCRIPTION What happens after the slasher movie? It’s always wham, bam, the killer’s dead and we depart on a victorious shot of our final girl - but it’s not always that simple... An abandoned summer camp in a secluded Adirondack resort town. Three dead teenagers and one on death’s door. Two survivors. A Chicago homicide detective and a prior Final Girl on the case. A town determined to hide the truth of what happened that night. A ticking clock. And a killer on the loose, ready to make sure no one escapes this time around. Focusing on the moments of grief, confusion and loose that the survivors and town would feel after such a gruesome incident. This project is set to have everything the horror and slasher genre viewers will love mixed with tugging on the heartstrings we all find lacking from your traditional slasher.

We are currently working off a low budget - but willing to work within your rates for the right Artist!

My DMs are open to those interested in this project. Thank you in advanced!

Game Design Podcast

EDIT To the mods: I swear I read the rules, this just doesn't seem to fit in any of the other gamedev/classified subs mentioned. I intended this as "networking" rather than "help wanted".

I recently had an idea for a podcast after spending way too long pondering some DnD game mechanics. The question I kept asking myself was "how can I make a model that is 'good enough' using as simple a system as possible?" I know there's podcasts about game design in general, but most of them seem focused on video games or critique of existing games as opposed to how you create homebrew mechanics.

The format would be me (solid math background, less experience with game design), another host who knows a lot about games, and a guest who is an expert in some real world topic. The point would be to discuss how different table top games handle specific mechanics like health, weapon damage, skills, etc., the math behind the rules, the balance between realism and fun, and what the hosts & guest think is the best solution.

QUESTIONS

  1. Does such a podcast already exist?

  2. If you're an experienced gamer/designer would you have any interest in being a host/guest?

  3. Is this something you'd listen to? (I honestly don't care too much about this one, but I'm curious if anyone else has wished such a thing existed)

I have no experience creating a podcast, but if I can find enough material & people to cover about 10 episodes I'm willing to take a stab at it. What I really need at this point is a second host who is passionate about table top gaming (particularly RPGs), has good communication skills, and owns a decent quality microphone. There's ways to work around the last point if that's the only thing holding you back.

Game Design Podcast

Hello everyone,

I'm a guy from Switzerland, 30 years old. I'm working in tech.

I have played games from Link To The Past to Godlneyes 64 to FortNite. I've been interested in game design since a long time, trying to understand as much as I can for years.

For instance, right now, I'm playing the new Lego Star Wars, Chrono Cross and Fortnite.

I have done a successful podcast relating to mobile tech a few, few years before.

I'm lookin in anyone up to, interested in game design, level design, OST discussion, to do a show with me. I have no monetary intensive, just for the hell of it and see where it takes us.

I have a feeling such a podcast doesn't exit. One where we discuss recent games and comment on the design, one where we discuss game mechanics and talk about it evolves and shapes the indusrty.

Please, get in touch.

Have a wonderful night, a wonderful day and take care !

Interest in a game design podcast?

My YouTube channel is starting to gain a bit of a dedicated audience and I want to start a game design podcast in 2020.

The format will essentially be, bring on a guest, talk about their history with design (games released, formal game education experience and whatnot) discuss anything they are working on at the moment and organically discuss any game design topics that come up.

Essentially just a big chat every other week about game design.

What do you think? Nothing special but if people would be interested in a podcast about the development of both board games and video games, it would be something I would want to do.

Also I would like to start off the podcast targeting guests that have either games coming out or formal education in game design, two things that I can relate too enough to have some interesting conversations about.

If anyone is interested in being a guest and fits the bill stated above, comment below or pm this account.

Cover Design Podcast Appearance and Call for Resources

Howdy, gang!

I was a guest on a podcast about the importance of cover design that went live this morning on Hidden Gems Books. There's a lot of good tips and discussion to be had, whether you're interested in designing your own covers or whether you're outsourcing. So if you have any questions about the design process and some of its pitfalls, or you want to see what this half-feral dude from reddit looks and/or sounds like when he's had a lot of coffee and a couple of years of diminished human contact, give it a watch or a listen!

Fully Booked (the Hidden Gems Books podcast) is a great resource for all sorts of self-pub info, and they routinely have great guests that don't have my goofy mug, so check it out. It's run by two industry vets, u/hgems and u/Militant-Ginger, and new episodes are published weekly.

I also put together a blog series about a year ago for Hidden Gems about designing your own covers, so here's a link to that as well.

If anyone has any other thoughts about publishing resources (podcasts, videos, blogs, books, etc) they find useful, I'd love to collect and organize them in a new wiki, so feel free to post some in the comments.

Thanks a million!

Your pal,

Sally

TTRPG Design Podcast: Bebop Tabletop

Hi folks! I'm one of the hosts of a new podcast that's 1 part tabletop roleplaying game design and 1 part Cowboy Bebop rewatch called Bebop Tabletop.

Each week, we look at one session of the anime and discuss the characters, locations, and themes in the context of designing a fun and playable game. Sessions drop every Monday and run just under an hour.

We focus on discussing game design decisions and hope to have a complete publishable, playable work by the end of the series. We'd love to hear feedback and suggestions from other game designers and fans of the show!

Bebop Tabletop is available on Spotify, Apple, Google Podcasts, and more podcast services! We're also on Twitter (BebopTabletop) so please reach out. We'd love to hear what you think! Thanks!

Team customizers of SMB might like Baseball by Design Podcast

I just discovered Baseball by Design, a podcast that focuses on names and logos for minor league teams. Minor league branding seems more "super mega" than MLB. Seems like there might be some overlap between SMB fans who love creating customized teams and logos, so I thought I'd share here.

Game Design Podcast Recommendations?

I'm looking for some great podcasts on game design/theory to listen to on my commute. Things like Extra Credits are ideal (although those are both short and in video form).

Do you have any favorites? The last post I could find on this topic is about one year old.

I’ll design podcast covers & logos for free!

UPDATE: Whoa! I've gotten so many messages! Too many, in fact! I wish I could take on all of you, but I was just planning on doing these this weekend and I doubt I can complete all of your requests in that time. If I haven't responded to you yet, I will, so hold tight! I won't be accepting any more requests for this weekend, but I'm thinking of having a queue and doing some more next weekend maybe! Either way, feel free to message me if you want to connect! Thank you!

I'll be updating this post after the week-end to showcase the covers I made, so stay tuned!

EXTRA NOTE: I can definitely take on some paid commissions if you REALLY, REALLY want me to design something for you, but I would also accept exchanges like feedback, guest spots, call-outs, link exchanges, podcast reviews, or whatever!

FINAL NOTE: You can find me on Discord if you want to chat podcast or design stuff! https://andrewdavid.club

Thank you so much!

Original Post:

Hey all!

I'm a designer (among other things) and I figured I'd give back to the podcast community by taking on a couple cover/logo challenges! I'm not looking for work - this is not me soliciting in any way - I just figured I'd do something nice in return for all the feedback I’ve gotten from the podcast communities by asking if anyone here needs to improve their podcast's cover or logo (or want a new design altogether). I’ll do a bunch of them over the weekend. Depending on the complexity of what's needed, I could probably do a dozen. First come, first served!

And yes, this is completely free of charge! Obviously, I wouldn't say no to a tip or donation if you offer, but that’s not why I’m here. I'm doing this to get myself a little more involved in the podcast community! Maybe this could help me make some new connections, find podcasts to collaborate with in the future, or maybe even meet people who are lacking in design skills but are amazing at audio engineering to give me tips on my own podcast in exchange! Who knows!

Just message me (or comment below) and we'll see how it goes 🙂

Please note that I am not an illustrator! I can not draw caricatures, avatars, or mascots. This is purely design work. Logos, branding, etc.

Creating A Game Design Podcast

I am thinking about getting together with top devs and designers in my community and starting a weekly podcast to help others in this space like me get real world insights into game design, production, and dev.

Recently I have tried to listen to podcasts like Another Castle and Game Design Dogo from the iTunes store with great disappointment. So many podcasts out there seems to lack producing and focus and let the hosts ramble on for an hour with a few gems hidden.

Youtube currently seems to be providing much better organized content with shows like Game Makers Toolkit, Extra Credits, etc and it really seems to come down to production / focus. Listen to any game design podcast and then to NPR and you will see the difference in good storytelling, sound design, informational structure, and purpose.

I would love to hear from the community here about what they would love in a game design podcast and what you would like to cover that is missing from the current offerings.

  1. Would you listen to a game design / production podcast?

  2. What length do you like for your podcast (20 min, 30 min, 60min)?

  3. What type of content do you want the most? A. Topic Specific (First ten steps after you get an idea for a game) B. People Specific (Interviews with top industry experts) C. Game Specific (Pick a new game each week and break it down)

  4. Do you prefer podcasts that have the same characters or bring in variety?

  5. Where do you typically go to download your podcasts and would you support something like this on Patreon?

Would love to hear what folks think and if the community seems interested I am going to start working on a pilot episode to get out in the next few weeks. For some background I own a film production studio and began getting interested in game design over the past year. In my search for self education I have found books and youtube to be extremely helpful but have missed being able to tune into something while traveling, or working that can offer some more personal and long format insights. I think it is an exciting time in Games and with well produced, organized content we can all help each other learn and grow.
