A mistrial has been declared in the trial of Karen Read, a Mansfield, Massachusetts woman who stands accused of murdering her Boston police officer boyfriend John O’Keefe after striking him with her SUV following a night of drinking on 29 Jan 2022. We await a status hearing (22 Jul 2024) to determine where the case goes from here. The goal of this sub is to have robust discussions largely based on the evidence presented at trial. We are not a “free Karen Read” sub.
Is anyone listening to the full courtroom audio via the Full Trial Audio Podcast? I’m a little behind (it’s 4+ hours a day!) but it’s great for my commute and keeps me somewhat caught up. One interesting piece is that there are some definite hot mic moments it captures I don’t hear anyone else mentioning.

my consumption has always been only through the audio podcast, primarily for convience as I just don't have the time to sit down to only consume ~3-4 hour episodes as video but i would also personally argue it helps for theatre of the mind immersion too. let alone the other benefits of podcast app consumption (offline saving, position saving, variable speeds etc)
I know its an eternal debate of people preferring to visually watch the show for physical jokes/acting and it is unbashly a stream first production (see battlemap and set inflation over time)
the show has been a mess of different feeds as a result of the G&S split which have gone offline up and down multiple times over the years as hosts shuffle around, even well after the fact with basically zero communication about the issues
then more recently they have basically decminated the quality of the podcast streams with extremely heavy handed external audio dynamic advert insertion (or top of the other internal adverts also present). these did not use to be present. presumably actioned as a result of things like 2022's .
e.g. latest episode opens with 1 min external ad, 1 min internal ad, 1 min internal ad, then into the actual show talk and sam sponsor plugging and merch updates. intro music plays at ~11m and immediately after it ends is another 1m external ad immediately after and only esclates from there through rest... e.g. next external spliced middle of scene at 35m for one minute. also these are all the same goddam ads.
when i've seen this previously discussed on reddit most people tend to say something like 'oh golly! the evil podcast overlords have inserted these without their consent!' but that is absolutely not how these things work. they are in at their volition and at the specific points the creator designates. also many people misunderstand the automated nature of how these are generated based on user location etc. at worst these adverts basically are just randomly spliced right into the middle of scenes/dialogues.
in general i am not directly against adverts in podcasts, if they are done well, but frankly where possible I feel a creator should also offer a paid option to consume the content advert free, typically through subscription services such as Patreon etc. people also argue that you can just paid twitch subscribe and stream the audio only through twitch but that is just lacking a signifiant amount of podcast format/app quality of life features to be untenable (let alone the artifical time delays they enforce to also encourage twitch subs).
so frankly in essence at the moment, the best way to enjoy an audio only version of the content is to just rip it from youtube yourself, e.g. using command line yt-dlp or other such methods, with the added benefit of using the sponsorblock integration to skip intermission breaks / internal adverts natively...
or use an alternative youtube front end like android's newpipe
there is also a larger issue about how this affects the quality of archives too, part of me revisiting this was to make a clean local archive of C1, as its current form just simply isnt what i listened to back in the day.
There's been a placeholder episode for over a year.

I’ve been publishing an audio pod for five years. I want to add to YouTube for the discovery benefits. I can easily capture video during recording, but I don’t want to have to become a video editor to add an intro card and name supers on the video. What is the dead simplest way to do this? I have Premiere and iMovie but don’t want to get into editing huge hour long movies.

You can now go into your YouTube channel's Studio and place your RSS feed for automatic YouTube videos from audio podcasts. I am unclear if this change is just that it's a standard feature and is available in everyone's Studio page or if other changes have occurred.
Now taking wagers to see how long this lasts before Google/YouTube abandons this strategy regarding podcasts completely.

SUBTITLE: "Looks Like Colleen Told Erik a Thing or Two"
Earlier this week, I had posted my attempt to transcribe this episode when it came out as an audio-only podcast. Tonight I fast-forwarded through the YouTube version to watch some parts out of curiosity, since I had no body language info before.
One ongoing bit with Erik in this episode was his teasing her about Taylor Swift's new album. She wanted to talk about; he shut it down. Later, at two different points, he decides to talk about it but it's obvious he wasn't taking it seriously so the subject would change. When he started to talk about "Anti-Hero" at 43:48, speculating about why people like her songs, she wouldn't take the bait. Suddenly at 44:24, he said, "Sorry" after she gave him a closed eyes, side-tilted head waggle then BAM...edit/cut.
She must have chewed him out during the time period of the missing footage because from there on, his demeanor was completely different. Up until then, he was having a good time and his energy was "up". After the cut, he gave her a lot less eye contact and let her dominate the podcast; talking about Taylor and her songs, of course. He looked around a lot; disinterested and dejected. Yet when she finally apologized for boring him, he said no, he wasn't bored at all. This man is completely under her thumb.
■ There's no video footage at the end of F's stunt surprising Colleen with the toilet papered bathroom. You can still hear the F footage on the audio podcast but there's nothing on YouTube. Did they cut it or did they forget it? I don't know but I do know they are terrible podcasters and the YouTube version tells on them everytime.

Subreddit for Netflix series 'The Brothers Sun' created by Brad Falchuk & Byron Wu and starring Michelle Yeoh premiering January 4, 2024.
Hi all
I am shortly releasing a podcast episode about the TV show The Brothers Sun.
In the past we've done a few guest episodes where we invite fans on to the show and we talk about films, actors and the guest gives us their opinion on that particular topic.
I would like to do something similar and post a follow-up episode(s) to the The Brothers Sun episode where I interview a few guests.
I will write and share a list of questions beforehand and send these to you via email. I'll also include what software you will need access to (Skype and Audacity - both are free).
I can arrange a 30 minute pre-recording session to go through any questions you might have about the recording process and show you the basics of Audacity.
You will need to answer the questions and send these back to our email, as these form the show notes on our website. You can document your answers in full detailed sentences or a few bullet points to capture the pertinent points.
You will need to be English speaking and have access to a laptop/computer and preferably a microphone and headset. Webcam is optional, as we only release audio podcasts episodes. We had a couple of guests who recorded via their iPhone and the audio wasn't great.
We've recorded guests from across the US, Canada and a couple of countries in Europe. We are UK based, but happy to schedule a time that is convenient for both of us.
We are a very small podcast but we do have listeners across a few continents (Europe, North America, Asia, Africa and Oceania).
If you're interested please send me a DM or reply to this post. Thanks.
I've included a couple of links for when the episode comes out (releases at midnight UK time).
I know some of you were asking for it, so I decided to take the plunge and have a go at my very first podcast! You can check it out via the link above.
Obviously feedback is appreciated as always (less about my accent, god save the queen and all that). Wasn't 100% sure what I was trying to achieve so i just kind of rolled with it and we'll figure that out as we go. I'm hoping to do one of these every week going forward, but I fear that might be ambitious because I clearly love to go into a bit too much detail. But the more engagement it gets, the more I'll be inspired to do it.
Of course, the written breakdowns on a Sunday won't be going anywhere, they're still my primary focus (the UFC 295 version can be found via my profile)
Enjoy the fights this weekend gang, it should be a fun one!

As many of you know, I somewhat transcribe the podcast for bits of tea to bring here. Well sure enough, they edited out all of this part:
(copied from my previous recap post): Together they went on a tangent about the possible TikTok ban. (HERE'S WHERE THE AUDIO DELETION HAPPENED)➡️Colleen's second "relax" was the Tennessee state law that recently passed that says (according to her), "You cannot impersonate a man or woman in public where a minor could see you" as a "terrifying" way to ban drag queen shows. (the TN law actually states "staging an adult cabaret on public property or anywhere a child could see it" is illegal as an attempt by conservatives to keep sexualized content away from kids at Drag Brunches, Drag Queen Story Hours or on the Nashville, TN tourist buses. The word "drag" does not appear in the legislation but rightfully so, drag performers and transgender and gender noncomforming people are concerned about how the vaguely worded law will affect their lives).
Colleen was upset because she's going to TN this weekend to perform and people have compared her Miranda Sings show to drag shows because she was influenced by drag shows when she created her show. (this is incredibly tone deaf imo, to make it about herself) Colleen pointed out that NFL cheerleaders are costumed and incredibly sexualized but no one has a problem with them. Both she and Erik said they are allies and feel bad for people in TN who will be negatively impacted by the law.
Colleen also admitted she was raised to believe "it's wrong to be gay" and she had to learn and change from that so she wondered if these lawmakers are just "ignorant" and not truly mean people. Erik said it's all "very icky" and he dislikes that he has people that think like the TN lawmakers in his own family. Colleen felt these people really believe they're doing something right and aren't entirely hateful (not to justify it, she said, but she was trying to understand where they were coming from). Erik said he thinks the three main political people in charge on "that side of things" are, "absolute just profane awful death cult performers". Both of them can't believe this is real and they wish people would just let people live because it's not hurting anyone "to let these people exist"(Colleen's words).
Colleen then got distracted by the stains on her clothes ⏪️(THIS IS WHERE THE EXISTING AUDIO PICKS UP AGAIN)
I can't believe they did this.
The video will be available as soon as possible after the live stream. We are still building the best delivery system we can!

Idk why but I think for one ep they should split the audio to have Enyas voice only coming into the L audio channel and Drew’s only in the R channel. I want to be able to take one headphone out and just hear “mmmhmmm” from enya or drew noises
