PF2E Actual Play Podcasts

So my spouse and I were looking for some PF2e actual plays but almost all of the ones we can find/are recommended are playing adventure paths and we were more interested in homebrew stories. Are there any pf2e homebrew actual play podcasts y'all could recommend, or are most of the PF2E podcasts sticking to adventures paths?

What are some great PF2E actual play podcasts?

What are some great PF2E actual play podcasts?

For a few years now, I've been in the habit of listening to Critical Role, Dimension 20, NADDPOD and the like while in the gym or going running, but I'd like to look into some Pathfinder options as well.

Does anyone have any recommendations for PF2E actual plays that you find especially good?

Actual play podcasts are boring. (Rant)

Please feel free to change my mind, or send me a link to a good one. Honestly, I can't find one that keeps my interest while I work outside all day. The first episode where they introduce the characters and the game is always interesting to me. Starting the journey? Great. But then it always falls apart after that for me. 1st reason can be TOO MANY PLAYERS at the table. 4 or 5 players plus the DM is too much to keep track of, especially when everyone's voice is similar. Background sounds and music help a little when done right, but even that gets drowned out by my next problem. 2nd reason is sometimes real life games slow down naturally to get our inventory and background details polished. This is fun if you are playing. And essential. But boring for the listener. Sometimes I forget that they are in a cave because they are discussing how many potions are left or something for 5 minutes. 3rd is LENGTH. Again, great in person, but it's a huge commitment to dl 6 hours of content, only to listen to just one quest be finished. Plz comment if you feel my attention span is too short and I'm missing the point blah blah blah. I do have a few things I would change if I were to make my own actual play podcast, but I can post them later in a separate post if anyone is interested since I'm working now. I just felt like ranting since time and time again I've unsubbed from another feed today.

Actual Play podcasts that represent...actual play?

While I haven't had a chance to sample all the popular actual play podcasts, I was wondering if any are representative of actual tabletop play? In most cases it seems like the scenarios are stretched over many sessions - far more than would normally be the case - and the content skews towards radio drama vs more directly engaging with the game mechanics. As a new handler I was hoping to find something that would demonstrative of how a "typical" game was run - with a little more emphasis on gameplay and 'out of character' commentary (e.g.: "I have X skill and I will roll for Y").

A plea to all Actual Play channels and podcasts!

Please please PLEASE!

Either in the intro or the description text give the listener a brief recap and an explanation of what the campaign is about, I.e. what the PCs are trying to achieve.

If you're on session 26 and you go in with 30 minutes of player intro, Twitch nonsense and merchandise selling THEN go straight into "Ok you were on the skyship debating whether or not to bomb the mine" I have NO FUCKING CLUE what is going on and no context to understand PC choices.

Also, players; you don't need to tell the listener your backstory and personality - that should emerge in play. Instead remind us from time to time something about their appearance.

EDIT: Interesting side note. The system makes a huge difference to this. 5e style D&D had no/ little in-built context compared to The One Ring or Pendragon.

EDIT 2: To the various people suggesting I should be starting at Ep 1, others have posted a variety of really good answers to this point.

What are the best rpg actual-play podcasts that DON'T do DnD?

I love a bit of DnD and have listened to many of the greats, but I'm hankering for shows that play something else. Monsterhearts, or Masks, or Call of Cthulhu, or anything really. What are your favorite rpg shows that don't play DnD?

Edit... 185 comments later: dang I've got a lot to check out, thanks! :)

Who Is Your Favorite Actor/Player on an Actual Play Podcast?

These aren't necessarily your favorite characters, but your favorite actors, and what they bring to the table. For me, my favorites include:

-Liam/Critical Role: Edgy though he may be, Liam brings a lot of emotion to the table. He's also not averse to a good argument, and I find he makes the interpersonal dynamics more interesting.

-Will Campos/Dungeons and Daddies: Will's portrayal of Henry Oak is just the perfect blend of relatable and caricature. Where some of the other characters spin off a bit, Henry seems to be grounded in a way and Will keeps the story going in places.

-Lou Wilson/Unsleeping City: Lou does a great job in the games he is in of creating characters that have a powerful presence but have fundamental vulnerability. In The Unsleeping City, Kingston Brown's is a character that is at once extremely likable and relatable, and someone who feels his failures deeply. In NADD Pod, Jabari is easily manipulated and really just wants to be loved and accepted by his friends. Lou is a bit like the glue that holds these stories together.

What are some of your favorites?

I've recently started to play Pathfinder and have been looking around for an actual play podcast. So far I've been listening to Dice Will Roll and the first episode of Mortals & Portals.

Which actual play podcast do you like the best?

Good Actual Play podcasts?

Hey it’s me one of the army of 5E DMs descending upon your poor sub in droves.

I ordered the beginner box and the core rule book, and walked through creating a character with Wanderers Guide (no android).

I’m curious what good actual play podcasts (or even just a YouTube video or two) there may be, as I’ve found it’s a good way to get a feel for the flow of the game, when to call for checks, etc.

Actual Play Co-Op Podcast

Howdy! I just wanted to share an Ironsworn podcast that my buddy and I started recently - episode 4 just came out today so it's still very new.

The show is set in a homebrew world and this week's episode is actually the first one that focuses on our worldbuilding process. We are playing Ironsworn for the main campaign, but the world we're playing in was built using a bunch of different indie worldbuilding games. This week's episode is the very first one we recorded, where we created the world using Pearl and Provenance, an awesome worldbuilder about demigods escaping a calamity and building a new world together.

I also think after this episode is the point where we start to get a lot more comfortable with the system and things start to pick up a bit, if you know the rules of Ironsworn well you will definitely find mistakes in the first three episodes.

Speaking of - I wanted to shout out this community for being a fantastic resource as we learned the game, I did a lot of googling and would always find very insightful answers here. If you happen to give us a listen I hope you enjoy!

Edited to add the link, I am obviously not a marketing professional: https://open.spotify.com/show/3QVEVdYTvNY2ALlzN75Ms1?si=f15591c35acf43ec

B/X or OSE actual play podcasts?
r/osr

This is a subreddit for news and discussion of Old School Renaissance topics. We primarily focus on D&D (LBB, 1st ed. AD&D, etc.) and the retroclones. Other Old School games (Traveller, Runequest, Tunnels & Trolls, et al) are of course open for discussion. This is *not* a place to rant about how (your least favorite edition) sucks! In fact, I hope discussion arises about how later editions do things right, and how to incorporate them into OSR-styled games.

B/X or OSE actual play podcasts?

Question as title. Looking for recommendations for AP podcasts to listen to while walking / at the gym. Bonus points for still being active (I appreciate some may be inactive and short lived).

Sadly all I can find so far are podcasts discussing the OSR and giving DM-ing advice. While these are high quality I'd like to listen to how players make choices and DMs make rulings in a live environment.

Apologies of this has been answered before extensively, I admittedly could have been more thorough with searching first.

Edit: listening to the dolmenwood campaign of 3d6 DTL, it's really great! Thanks gang!!

Looking for art for upcoming Actual Play podcast.

Hello there! I am looking for someone who is able to do grungy black and white or muted colored art for an upcoming actual play podcast for a Werewolf the Apocalypse game. We will need 4-5 3/4 body images with .png and transparent background and is willing to work with what the cast and storyteller are looking for. I am willing to negotiate prices, and the artist will be given full credit on both the podcast and on all of our social media, as well as opportunities to gain more work should we vibe with the artist. If anyone is interested. Please reach out to me on here for further discussion!

Not so succesful Actual Play podcasts

Hi,

since we are in the age of RPG renaissance, there are countless actual play podcasts/streams/shows/whatever you call it and it's impossible to know all of them. That's why I'm turning to Reddit.

There are plenty shows that are popular and succesful. But, what are some examples of shows that never quite made it. Or even amateur ones, that are okay with small following base.

I'm asking because I want to expand my horizon and, honestly, I'm getting tired of overproduced shows.
