I’m one of the minority who just couldn’t finish Ben & Sophie’s story, and absolutely adore Gregory & Hyacinth’s stories.

However, the more I see Luke Thompson, the more I get excited. He ELEVATES every scene he’s in with his background comments & facial expressions.

Damn, he’s good.

They’ve been raceswapping and not following the books since season 1, why are people so mad now?

This post is a reaction to the things I’ve been seeing on platforms like Instagram and TikTok not the subreddit. And I’m sorry if it’s bringing too much drama but I just need a space to rant abt the hurtful things I’ve been seeing.

How on earth did we go from celebrating the diversity in bridgerton to me now seeing ppl saying racist stuff like “forced inclusion”??? I honestly thought everyone was rooting for all the bridgerton love interests to be poc, with the exception of penelope and phillip 😭

And i've noticed that it’s really being geared towards black ppl, first it was with the Masali as Sophie rumors (no other casting rumors got this much backlash), and now its Victor Alli being cast as John. I just stumbled on a tik tok post making the announcement and the comment section was filled with ppl saying they already know they’ll be disappointed in the Michael cast because he’ll be black, some people are hoping for raceblind casting so Michael can be any other race but black. And the one that confuses me the most is the people who are now whining about how they aren’t sticking to the books, as if they’ve been doing that since season 1, not just with the casting but with the storylines as well. The antiblackness is so disheartening to see bc some of these people wouldn’t mind as long as it’s not a black person. Like I’ve seen people say “must all the bridgerton li be black” meanwhile we’ve only had one black biracial li but that’s enough for them. I also saw somebody who was complaining about them not sticking to the books but in the same breath was saying why couldn’t John have been asian or latino? I agree that we need more asian and Latino rep but there's a better way to phrase the words. It really says a lot and it’s so disappointing to see. A lot of black watchers love bridgerton and see it as escapism, I can’t imagine what would happen if they come across this vitriol towards actors that look like them.

I’ll just say this, anyone who hates the cast because of skin color can just leave, this show is not for people like that. Like, how did we watch season 1, 2 and Queen Charlotte yet ppl are being racists? Thankfully, they’re a minority and most bridgerton fans don’t care abt color of skin and just want to watch this fun show. Anyway, my fingers are crossed for Micheal to be just as dark skinned as John, and for more poc to be cast as bridgerton li leads. I don’t want these racists to be comfortable at all, they can go and make their own productions and not pollute the fandom with their toxicity.

The way they are playing Eloise is brilliant

That fact is that by almost every single modern sensibility she’s objectively correct about all her beliefs and politics, but is played so obnoxiously, immaturely and overbearingly by Claudia Jessie is a beautiful contrast.

Eloise is absolutely right about so much, and absolutely wrong about so much at the same time - it’d be a difficult task for anyone to pull off, and I think they’re doing it excellently!

What do others think?

Why didn’t Mary and Edwina question Kate about who was going to pay for Edwina’s dowry?

We see in the show that paying a dowry is a big deal and we know that the Sharmas used the last of their funds to make the trip to England. Was Lady Danbury going to sponsor the dowry as well? What was their plan?

Speculation about Pen fainting scene
false

Okay, I went down the rabbit hole this morning so figured I'd post here and see what everyone else thinks.

Exhibit A: Pen falling to demonstrate me falling down the rabbit hole

Like many others have speculated, I think this might be the Charades-esque scene Jess Brownell mentioned.

I also have some thoughts about Pen fainting. First of all, I wonder if this could be a feigned faint - almost a reversal of the S1 scene where Cressida faints for attention (and we see Pen laughing at her) - but with Pen trying to either escape from the scene or perhaps create a distraction?

Exhibit B: 1x03 Swoontastic Spirals

My thought is maybe Cressida is subtly threatening to spill the beans about Pen's secret here. Maybe Pen tries to get out of it by faking lightheadedness.

But...

I wonder if this scene maybe takes place after Cressida has announced that she's LW -- or has informed Pen that she knows Penelope is LW and here's why.

Exhibit C: Me spiraling into the abyss

Okay, so John Glaser hinted that we'd see Cressida wearing a very unique dress in part two in this Vogue article: https://www.vogue.com/article/bridgerton-costume-designer-talks-season-3

Exhibit D: Spirals are always better with quotes

Specifically, he stated that Cressida's dress would be out of context for the period. If there is something that showy or out of place in the show, I think it might be the dress Cressida wears when she claims that she's LW. (It could also be one that she wears when she confronts Pen and says that she knows her secret, though that seems slightly less likely to me.)

If they are adapting a lot of book elements (as it seems they might be), I do wonder if maybe Cressida will attempt to take credit regardless of whatever is going down with the Queen. Regardless of what happens - whether Cressida claims to be LW or lets Pen know that she is aware of her secret (or both), I feel like Cressida will be wearing this "out of context" dress in one of those scenes. And if it's the former, I think she might be wearing it in an even more public setting than we see in the clip we just received.

But I am also super interested in the dress Cressida is wearing in this scene.

First of all, her sleeves aren't as ginormous as some of the other looks we've seen from here. More interesting, though, is that her outfit reminds me a lot of some of the costumes we've seen Pen wearing this season. Something about the shape of the sleeve and the shimmeriness of both the sleeves and dress screams Enchanted Pen at me, but I don't know why.

Exhibit E: Shimmer Spirals

Also if you take a closer look, her entire dress has a shimmery quality to it like the Enchanted Pen dress. Why????

And Cressida is wearing pink here. If pink is, in fact, a sign of Pen's independence and her LW-iness, it is super interesting that we see Cressida wearing that color, especially with a dress that seems a bit Penelope-coded.

So I wonder if maybe this scene takes place after Cressida has claimed to be LW -- and possibly after she's had a confrontation with Pen and revealed that she knows her secret. I wonder if this is a point in the story where the power dynamic has flipped between them and that Cressida is already holding something over Pen's head -- and maybe we're seeing that playing out in Cressida's costuming. And perhaps Pen then pretends to faint, pulling one of Cressida's old tricks, to get out of the situation.

All of this is completely unfounded, of course, but thank you for coming to my morning spiral.
