As a somewhat younger millennial (32 here), I can't help but notice that at least in my own personal life, I hardly meet any other people who are into rock and/or alternative music. For example at my job which is a gym, all my coworkers are into rap, hip hop, and top 40 mainstream pop. I'm not too surprised that my Gen Z coworkers are not into rock and are mostly into rap though I genuinely felt old when I asked them if they knew who were Blink-182, My Chemical Romance, Green Day, The Offspring, and Weezer and they had no clue who any of them were lol. But even with my coworkers around my age, none of them are really into rock type music so it's really just me. I remember even one of my coworkers saying how funny it is of how I'm black and really into that kinda music, they weren't being racist in saying that, just surprised and I totally understood what they meant haha.
But even with people I see come into my place of work, whenever I sometimes hear their earphones of what music their listening to, it's usually rap or hip hop and I've encountered those type of people who wear band shirts but don't know it's a band as well and well, it does make it hard to connect musically with people since I'm a huge rock fan. I know that it's not popular in the mainstream anymore and hasn't been since the turn of 2010 and it just makes me reminisce back to the 2000s when the whole garage/indie rock revival was happening and you had bands like The Strokes, Bloc Party, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Franz Ferdinand, Interpol, and The White Stripes were on the scene. Granted I'm more into alternative rock but still lol. I definitely start feeling my age when it comes to music, that's for sure.
Anyway while I know I'm not the only one who listens to this kinda stuff still, I still am itching for conversation lol. Do any of you still love rock music or have you moved onto other genres?
