Beau's mat chat with the greeters is peak Beau cringe

he pulled the "who's your favourite 10 host" line, but didn't mention Osher because he knows he'll still lose that on the other side of the globe

These are some of the most diverse Morocco legs we've ever had

      [–]Apple_Slipper[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I agree. It's great that this season is showcasing more of what Morocco has to offer.

      [–]CreswickOctober 28 points29 points  (0 children)

So "follow the dog to the pitstop" is an established part of the race now huh

      [–]CreswickOctober 25 points26 points  (6 children)

      Insane finish

It must be a record for most destructive penalty

        [–]Apple_Slipper[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

        Quickest and super destructive!

        [–]magikarpcatcher 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I am shocked that ALL the teams checked in within 30 minutes of each other. Honestly, one of the best pit stops in TAR history

        [–]RaginDavid 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The models panicked. I think a lot of people would have panicked by that point too.

        [–]DashinglyDashing2 24 points25 points  (3 children)

        "First time I've seen it"

Beau the TAR superfan data scientist of amazing race facts has spoken.

        Heather & Eve say hey.

First team to arrive first BY FOOT 😂

Hey they walked into the pitstop, I see no fault 😉

That would have been pure chaos 🤣!
Guess, they wanted to give teams a chance to process that there were another 10 racers (9 in the episode) they didn't know about.

          [–]Rychu_Supadude 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Imagine the absolute chaos if they didn't tell them - just give everyone the same clue and make sure they leave the airport at the same time

Pretty much the same as what happened, but with the added pressure of trying to figure it out during an active task

          [–]heynics 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agree. Same pitstop but 18 finishers, when they thought they be running with only 9. And then they all go like “whaaaaat?!?!”

          [–]CreswickOctober 21 points22 points  (3 children)

30 minutes is a pretty tight window with how fast some of these teams shoot up and down the rankings

Science siblings just went from 18th to 6th

          [–]Apple_Slipper[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yep! That's quite a big jump/recovery for the Scientific Siblings!

          [–]glider521al 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The scientific sibblings are one of the best teams so far :)

Generally positive and quite tactical in how they approach most tasks.
They seem to be setting up a social strategy early with how they helped the other Melbourne teams early on.

          [–]pantaloonjohnny 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Really rough finish. I loved the models and liked them even more throughout this whole leg, so I was so sad to see them go. Their arc this episode including that bit with Heath & Toni was so good. But I like the teams who came close to last as well so that helps. Glad they can be known for being the most brutalised by a penalty lol

Otherwise, I liked the episode and Chefchaouen was cool! 🟦 I think it's great how each leg felt very diverse despite all of them being in Morocco. The tasks were great and could have spread so many teams out without them helping each other.

I'm able to recognise the teams and follow most of their positions but I understand if this was messy to most people. (Tammy & Vincent smashing the door challenge from 17th to 6th without even showing them lol) I think they did okay with 18 teams actually. The mullets, blondes, the Baru mates, and a bit of aunty/niece and the cops felt barely in this though.

If I had a nickel for every time a dog came with someone named Sam on the way to the Pit Stop, I'd have two nickels. Which isn't a lot but it's weird it happened twice.

I've finally have a team that I dislike - Angel & Frankie. They've just never given me good vibes compared to any of the other teams. They think the other teams don't like them because they're strong but it's probably because of their vibe? I do think C+R were wrong to step on their paint step but compare how they called them out compared to how the mums did. And it showed Angel starting the competitive talk at the mosque, too. Idk if it's just me lol but at least they're strong.

No intro either. Excited for Greece next!

          [–]CreswickOctober 17 points18 points  (1 child)

Dragon mums have showed up tonight

          [–]Cloud593 18 points19 points  (3 children)

This whole Melbourne vs Sydney teams working together is annoying. I want to see each team work it out on their own.

          [–]magikarpcatcher 9 points10 points  (2 children)

right? it's not like AUS vs NZ where it sort of makes sense that they want their country to win, at the end of day it all Aussie teams.

Nothing better than being an honorary Melburnian, other than being an actual Melburnian

            [–]CaptnCrumble 15 points16 points  (0 children)

            What a brutal finish.

            [–]CreswickOctober 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I'm here for teams number 12, 13, 14, 15, 16 and 17 to be called in to the pitstop

            [–]CreswickOctober 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I really like what we've seen of Jake and Holly so far, I hope they can pull through

            [–]Rychu_Supadude 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I feel for Jake & Holly not just because of how they went out, but also because in 3 episodes we barely got anything from them aside from the tragic backstory.

They come across as less of a loss compared to the rest of the engaging and diverse personalities heading to Greece.

            [–]CreswickOctober 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Sam and Alex in their golden shorts is hilarious, they would be the most fun team to hang out with

            [–]maukamauka 7 points8 points  (2 children)

On the bright side, I wouldn’t be surprised if this scared every remaining team away from taking penalties on future legs, at least for a while.

            [–]pantaloonjohnny 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I hope so. I wish they were longer in the first place so they act as more of a deterrent rather than just a punishment.

            [–]Badtechstuff 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They talk as if it's menacing, but it's a soft kitten punishment. If you know you're ahead but cant do it, just sit the 30mins. Rife for exploiting

            [–]Cloncurry_fan 9 points10 points  (9 children)

I love the twist, however, I just keep thinking:

'What was the point of the last two legs if being first place doesn't matter'

            [–][deleted]  (8 children)

            [deleted]

              [–]Cloncurry_fan 2 points3 points  (7 children)

Why do they need them? (Pretty new to the show)

              [–]KingoftheHill63 7 points8 points  (4 children)

It's too logisitally difficult to maintain the time difference between teams at the end of a leg. Easier to reset at the start of each new leg

              [–]Apple_Slipper[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Correct. A lot of the TAR versions do this, whether it's sleeping outside at the challenge location until opening time, or grouping up and taking the bus or train to a new destination.

              [–]Cloncurry_fan 2 points3 points  (2 children)

              That's what I assumed

              [–]KingoftheHill63 1 point2 points  (1 child)

If you look at some earlier seasons you'll see something like team A finished last leg at 8:00 pm so start the next leg at 8:00am but team C finished leg at 9:00pm so they start at 9:00am next leg - the time difference was maintained.

But then you'll have issues with teams taking different flights, etc.

              [–]Nos_4r2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Man I wish they would bring back having teams having to sort out their own flights and travel arrangements. That was just as tense as some of the tasks.

              [–]Rychu_Supadude 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Way, way back in the day Amazing Race had a much bigger focus on navigation, teams finding and booking their own flights to each country would have an impact on the result and take up half an episode even.

As others have said, the focus has shifted over time due to filming logistics, and each leg is largely its own race instead of potentially a rolling race from leg 1 to leg 15

              [–]Apple_Slipper[S] 9 points10 points  (2 children)

              Gr8 summary😊

Wow they've really chosen some amazing locations for this race so far!

              [–]CreswickOctober 8 points9 points  (1 child)

The soap roadblock seems like a very tough task

              [–]Cloncurry_fan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But it's nice to see teams working together

              [–]KingoftheHill63 7 points8 points  (1 child)

Haha Melbourne telling Sydney to get screwed lol

              [–]Phonixrmf 3 points4 points  (0 children)

              It's tradition

              [–]producermaddy 8 points9 points  (3 children)

18 teams was too many. They should have ran two races for a few more episodes.

The ending was unexpected. Crazy going from 1st to last with 18 teams. Especially with it really coming down to the wire

              [–]Apple_Slipper[S] 4 points5 points  (2 children)

It's definitely one of the most brutal elimination yet for TAR Australia.

              [–]glider521al 3 points4 points  (1 child)

Most unexpected elimination yes and the most drastic position change from a penalty, but not the most brutal. At least the elimination didn't happen by a leg design flaw or injury:

              • Shocking luck-based task eliminations: Ryot & Liberty (S1), Hayley & Mikayla (S4)
              • Eliminated through perceived threat (despite mostly playing nice): Sticky & Sam (unaired u-turn S2), Tom & Tyler (S4 - doubles as design flaw), Mj & Chelsea and Chris & Aleisha (S5)
              • Refused a salvage pass: John & Murray (S3) - though maybe not as surprising given their social strategy.
              • Other close penalty eliminations: - Dane & Adam (S2), Ross & Tarryn (S2 - tied by intersection erased their lead) though I will say that the most recent penalty had the largest position change to date in the history of Tar AUS
              • Evacuated because of an injury: >! Emily & Jono (at pitstop S3), Chris & Adrienne (S4), Shane & Deb (S5)!<

Let me know if I missed any!

P.s. for the polar opposite with narrowly evading elimination the most times: Lucy & Emilia (S2) :)

(edits: added Emily & Jono to list, fixed spelling, added p.s. note)

              [–]Apple_Slipper[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, you made great points. I remember how the fans were quite divisive about the alliance in the previous season.

              [–]KingoftheHill63 5 points6 points  (0 children)

First to last speed run WC achieved

              [–]RetroOptics 5 points6 points  (2 children)

Really solid episode, my favourite leg so far and kind of reminisce of the channel 7 series TARAUS.

              • The reaction to seeing the Sydney teams meet the Melbourne teams must've been wild and crazy. My favourite quote of them all were from Kathy, "are you from the American or New Zealand version?"
              • 18 teams though is wild, it caused a big mess this episode with the stair painting ARI
              • Fez hat route info: Super fun and challenging. I had difficulties hearing the timing due to the Aussie accents, I thought it was 19 seconds each and not 90 seconds but it was a fun route info task nevertheless.
              • The model couple quitting that task wasn't ideal. I think they should've tried different techniques to get the tassel moving.
              • Soap Road Block: My favourite challenge this leg. Really challenging and a great multi-step challenge. The first bit of finding the race flag was brutal. I think teams were trying to spot the soap wraps in the race flag colours and not the tiny little marker on the base of the packaging. That was definitely sneaky of the challenge producers. The following step of memorizing the coloured packaging/wrapping kicked the challenge up a notch and was a great memorization task.
              • Stair Painting Route Info Task: Average task. Again, with the large amount of teams there, it proved to be a logistical hassle of managing all of those 18 teams present there and doing the task. I honestly would've spilled the whole can there and then rub it in if they were allowed to do so.
              • Door Photo Identification Route Info Task: Really good challenge exploring the wonders of Chefchaouen. It's a maze in there and every door looks the same.
              • Sad to see the Model Couple go home but the penalty and the race show how tight and unexpected things can be. On the other hand though, quitting a task should be 2-hour penalty and not 30-minutes. It seems like the pit stop was a 10-minute walk from the last task location.
              • I hope this isn't a Melbourne vs. Sydney thing and we have these mini-alliances.
              • Again, this episode proves teams overpack and teams such as the dragon boat moms and Crystal & Reem abruptly slowing down and stopping, shows teams need to up their physical game and realize it is a race, especially when you're in last place.

              [–]lola1973lola 4 points5 points  (0 children)

When the two groups of teams meet for the first time, it felt like an alternative universe thing!

              [–]Apple_Slipper[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Maybe Kathy knows the previous TAR Australia Channel 7 version?

But I think she definitely knows TAR USA.

              [–]lola1973lola 3 points4 points  (1 child)

I’m not keen on the MEL vs Syd thing. I think it’s disrespectful to the rest of Aus. Plus I like to focus on the individual teams rather than where they’re from. But I have to say that I’m loving this season. 😊 (I’m from Melb)

              [–]Rychu_Supadude 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The teams themselves aren't exclusively from those cities, they just used their starting lines because it's basic psychology to stick with someone you've known for even 2 days over a newcomer

The actual breakdown is 4.5: Qld, 4: WA, 6: NSW, 3.5: Vic, 1: SA, 1: NT

              [–]CreswickOctober 6 points7 points  (1 child)

It's the next day and I'm still floored by that outcome. Jake and Holly would have won the leg without the penalty but instead they got eliminated

              [–]whatgift 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They didn’t complete a challenge, it was a deserved penalty, even though they would’ve been a great team to see continue.

              [–]KanyeQwest 7 points8 points  (2 children)

Sad to see Jake & Holly leave but the moment that killed me was seeing Holly’s reaction to Beau listing all the Samsung prizes that the first team to check-in received 😂

              [–]Apple_Slipper[S] 1 point2 points  (1 child)

That was funny, yeah. But that was a shocker of an elimination, all in a span of 30 minutes.

              [–]KanyeQwest 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I honestly thought they’d scrape through. Would be great if producers left the timer on the screen the whole time.

              [–]mistoqq 10 points11 points  (4 children)

30 minute penalties are too lenient

              [–]CreswickOctober 5 points6 points  (1 child)

It looks like 1hr penalty would be a death sentence tonight

              [–]Apple_Slipper[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

True, although this episode's leg went very quickly, and teams checked in mere minutes after Jake & Holly arrived.

              [–]CreswickOctober 2 points3 points  (1 child)

We've got 20 minutes left to check 18 teams into the pit stop LOL

How many double up names do we have? There's Stuart and Stu, and there's two Sam's I think?

              [–]glider521al 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It kind of mirrors Sticky and Sam from TAR Aus season 2.
They'll likely become a fan favourite to from also overcoming a disability.

              [–]Rychu_Supadude 2 points3 points  (1 child)

Fliss and Flick might both have the same root name in Felicity

              [–]CreswickOctober 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes I bet you're right. They've done pretty well with having so many different names

              [–]Rychu_Supadude 4 points5 points  (3 children)

The solution to nobody picking a Detour option is to not have a Detour at all!

(I know there was no room in the 18 team chaos, but still)

Btw I'm pretty sure Monday's episode is only 60 minutes which is a yikes. First non-elim?

              [–]DashinglyDashing2 8 points9 points  (5 children)

Merging the groups at 18 was such a horrible decision, I cannot keep up with where anyone is minus the two teams getting all the airtime (models, dragon boat mums)

Should have been merged at 10-14.

right, the two part premier was a good choice. i know most of them

                [–]Phonixrmf 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Now I want to see what it would be like if the two episodes merged into one. What an episode it'll be!

                [–]DashinglyDashing2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do agree that the diverse cast is making it a much softer blow, i am just concerned that when teams start to get airtime during the 14-18 groupings it'll be a big flag it's their swan song.

                [–]Nos_4r2 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Would've been too difficult to keep getting Beau from one pit stop to the other if it went for too long. Also opens up more chances for logistical mistakes to occur.

I remember some fans uploading the previous seasons on YouTube, but you can probably ask that person about uploading this season.

                    [–]Badtechstuff 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm not a fan of the penalty length like others, it's clearly too long. Also, the entire leg was done on foot shows there's probably a tighter budget too. Producers wouldn't fly 18 teams on last minute flights to new countries.

The design of this season as a mega season filled with eliminations and made for a 3day a week broadcast. I suspect a slow progression on organised flights everywhere.

Also I saw one of the teams cheat on the steps by pouring paint instead of paint brushes, that's a slap in the US one..

Anyways, I like it so far. Not fan of this survivor camp trope playing out though

                    [–]OrnaciaWasRobbedMom 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This episode was wild but the dragon mums completing the hat spinning first just to get overnighted before a roadblock that is designed to keep sending everyone to the back felt so unfair that I was hoping they wouldn’t get eliminated. But then to see the models lose by seconds when they didn’t actually gain anything by taking the penalty was also brutal. One thing that is strange is when the penalties are given. In leg 1, Rachel got the penalty right there at the roadblock. In leg 2, Bren and Anna received their detour penalty in the morning after the overnight rest. Then the models get theirs at the pit stop? It’s all over the place

                    [–]812gnj 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This season's pitstop race is probably one of the closest ones in race history. You wouldn't expect seeing another Heave moment from 1st to worst - but here it is.

Overall a pretty excellent leg that allowed some collaboration but also competition.

The tension of the penalty at the pit stop though is savage.

                    [–]glider521al 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So many teams...so much chaos...found this episode quite fun 🙃!

The twist with combining two groups of racers may be controversial, but it gives more applicants a chance to race when they otherwise wouldn't, and that's a Huge Plus!

Road blocks should be 2 hours

                      [–]EmotionalWeakness892 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Not all Legs are going to be close like this. There will be times when not a single team will check-in within 30 minutes.

                      [–]Apple_Slipper[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have to agree. This was a really close race and the other teams checked in mere minutes after Jake & Holly arrived and incurred their time penalty.

                      [–]whatgift 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nope, this was a anomaly, since pit stops frequently have hours between check ins.

                      [–]savannahkellen 1 point2 points  (1 child)

If they gave up on the task after like 5 mins of trying, they would’ve survived the leg. I have to disagree.

Even with episode 1 - surely waiting for teams ahead of you in line to do the roadblock took around 30 mins.

                      [–]EmotionalWeakness892 2 points3 points  (1 child)

                      Goodness, this is a clusterfrak.

                      [–]EmotionalWeakness892 2 points3 points  (8 children)

So what goes into the decision to have teams serve their penalty at the Mat vs. at the Route Marker where the team quits?

                      [–]CreswickOctober 3 points4 points  (7 children)

I think it depends on if there is an equaliser coming up or not

                      [–]EmotionalWeakness892 3 points4 points  (6 children)

Then the penalty should've been in the morning at the Road Block.

                      [–]pantaloonjohnny 3 points4 points  (2 children)

It confuses me because the vegans did their first time penalty the next morning (after signing up). But I agree with you.

                      [–]glider521al 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think they had another penalty for not being able to participate in the detour in time. However this penalty wasn't applied since the second penalty already made them last to the mat.

My issue is that they aren't consistent. It seems arbitrary when they decide to administer the penalty.

                        [–]Apple_Slipper[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agreed. Adds more intensity to the race leg, I feel.

It seems the teams have nicely arranged themselves into three (tentative) categories: the top contenders (the top 5), the hopefuls (6-9), and everyone else.

That was a brutal elimination for Jake & Holly. Neither they nor I expected all remaining 17 teams to check in within 30 minutes.

If only they stuck it out tassel task, they wouldn't be in this position.

                        [–]Calliesdad20 0 points1 point  (1 child)

I don’t understand the merging of two sets of racers, they are going to run with 18 teams ?

                        [–]Awkward-Incident-334 1 point2 points  (0 children)

its not that bad. by the end of next week we will be down to 14 teams which isnt that large

                        [–]IntellegentIdiot 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Was anyone else annoyed by the female model moaning that they were there first and could still lose? The only reason they were there first was because they served their time penalty at the end which is either brilliant TV or pretty cruel (or both). She acted like she was hard done by instead of finishing where she deserved. It's a shame that they either persevered too long or not enough on the hat dancing task. She even used it as a way to get ahead in the race, asking one team for help because they had a penalty. Also we don't need the presenter to keep saying "you're the x team to arrive but the X-1 team to check in"

Now, lets talk about the big twist. You're big premise for this series are that there are two teams that don't know about each other and you get them to meet on day 2 and make the reveal in probably the least dramatic fashion possible. Not to mention that having 18 teams racing together is going to make things pretty easy for some but also meaning that there's going to be too much going on. Just as I was wondering how they were going to do it logistically

This is where I give up. I was mainly watching to see how the twist played out and it's been so boring that I've got no reason to stick around. It's a pity because Australia is normally pretty good at adapting reality programmes, or used to be.
