https://www.scottyslittlesoldiers.co.uk/news/prince-harry-brings-smiles-to-bereaved-military-children

Prince Harry, a long-standing supporter of Scotty's Little Soldiers, surprised the children aged 6 to 22 years when he joined their event, and spent time chatting to them as well as joining them for games such as Edible Races, Flipper Challenge and Bucket Head. The Duke also spent time with the children’s parents. The event provided a safe space for the young people to connect with one another, build friendships, and create lasting memories.

Following the lively session, Prince Harry spent quality time with nine members from Scotty's Council. This dedicated group of young people, who represent the charity’s other members and provide a voice for bereaved military children and young people, discussed their experiences of growing up without a parent and the invaluable support they receive from Scotty's Little Soldiers.

Prince Harry, The Duke of Sussex and Global Ambassador of Scotty's Little Soldiers, reflected:

"It was an honour to meet so many of the wonderful families Scotty’s Little Soldiers supports. I have long believed in the mission of this charity, and I truly believe the work they do to foster community and create space for young people to connect, grieve, but also have fun together is life-changing. I am a huge supporter of their work, and very proud to be their first Global Ambassador.”

Nikki Scott, who founded Scotty’s Little Soldiers in 2010 following the death of her husband, Cpl Lee Scott, in 2009, commented:

"It was amazing to see all the smiles in the room when Prince Harry walked through the door. The Duke of Sussex has supported Scotty’s for a long time, which means a lot to our members because they know he understands what it’s like to experience the death of a parent and the challenges they face. It’s important to our members to maintain their connection to the military community, which Prince Harry is also passionate about. Events like these are so valuable to our members because it enables them to develop friendships with others in a similar situation, as well as have lots of fun.”

Georgia Paterson (16) joined Scotty’s Little Soldiers in 2018. Her dad, Corporal (Cpl) Norman Stevenson, served in the Royal Regiment of Scotland (3 Scots) and died by suicide in 2016. Georgia was 8 years old. She is a member of Scotty’s Council and said of chatting to The Duke:

"Prince Harry was the best person to share that experience with because he’s been through it and understands better than anyone. It was really moving to see how vulnerable he was with us, which encouraged us to open up as well."

She continued: "It felt really connecting because when your parent served, they served for the country, and one of the most important things for the country is the Royal Family. Speaking with someone who is part of that made me feel more connected to my Dad. It was amazing to be connected to him in that moment."

Joshua Kirkham (19) joined Scotty’s Little Soldiers in 2014. His dad LCpl Christopher Bradshaw, died in a road collision on 26th November 2011 when Joshua was six years old. Joshua is also a member of Scotty’s Council and after having a heart-felt conversation with The Duke, he said:

"The standout moment in our conversation with Prince Harry was around coping mechanisms for bereavement. We discussed being proud of the family member we've lost, celebrating their life, and understanding that it's okay to be sad, to grieve, and to seek support in whatever way feels right."

Scotty’s currently supports over 670 bereaved military children and young people, aged 0 – 25 years. Services offered include access to one-to-one child bereavement support, guidance to parents and carers, personal education and learning assistance (including grants), development opportunities and fun activities such as holiday respite breaks and group events. These are all designed to remind the children and young people supported by Scotty’s that they are not alone. The charity has a long-term goal of supporting over 1,000 bereaved military children and young people annually by 2030.

Scotty’s Little Soldiers would like to thank events company Sharky and George for providing the fun and games, Paul Tibbs Photography for capturing the event, John Rourke for supporting with filming and CC1 Norfolk for providing first aid.

https://leadership.ng/prince-harry-meghan-arrive-nigeria-friday/

The couple is visiting Nigeria on the invitation of the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), General Christopher Musa to interact with wounded soldiers.

Director Sports, Defence Headquarters (DHQ), Air Vice Marshal Abidemi Marquis who disclosed this on Thursday said the founder of Invictus games will spend three days in Nigeria, interacting with wounded soldiers and their families.

Marquis said the visit scheduled from 10th to 13th May 2024 will help the wounded soldiers in their recovery efforts.

“We realised that 80% of our soldiers have been involved in this recovery programme, they are getting better. Their outlook to life is positive,” AVM Marquis said.

He added that the visit will aid their recovery “to improve their personal self-esteem to improve their mental health. Their emotional intelligence has been improved and also their families seeing them, as they used to be breadwinners who is capable of continue living. So this engagement with Invictus is giving us the opportunity for the recovery for our soldiers.”

He further stated that being a member of the Invictus community, the visit will lay credence to the acceptance of the Nigerian Armed Forces.

He further stressed that the visit has become essential to Nigeria’s plan to hosting an Invictus game.

AVM Marquis also stressed on the need to build a state-of –the-art structure for the management of the wounded and injured soldiers, “particularly the post-traumatic syndrome and the post-traumatic stress syndrome that are manifesting due to our engagement in the counter -insurgency operation”.

He disclosed that the couple would visit Kaduna and Lagos states where they will also interact with the governors of the states.

“So, to be specific, now, they will be arriving here tomorrow (Friday) and they will be received, and the reception will be a quiet reception because they will be traveling 14 hours to get to this place. They will be taken to the hotel.

He said after resting at the hotel, the couple will return to visit Chief of Defence Staff by 12 noon on Friday.

The Director added that Prince Harry and wife would visit their own the Wuse Light

Academy, an institution being supported by their non-governmental organization before seeing the Nigeria’s security chief.

Subsequently, they will proceed to Kaduna State to visit the Nigerian Army Reference Hospital where the wounded and injured soldiers are kept for their medical recovery.

“On Saturday, we’ll be having like an exhibition of novelty match. The CDS team and the Duke team will be having a volleyball match at armed forces officers mess in the morning. And this is just to engage with the wounded and injured soldiers. It’s a sitting volleyball match coming in the morning.

“So after that, we have a programme for them by 01:00 pm. A reception, where they will be interacting with families of wounded and injured soldiers and families of soldiers and officers killed in action and service members generally,” the Director said.

On Sunday, AVM Marquis said the couple will pay a courtesy visit on Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State, and also visit a basketball court for the school their NGO is supporting in Lagos where a basketball exhibition Match will be held.

A reception is also expected to be organised for the couple on Sunday before returning to Abuja in preparation for their departure from the country on Monday.

Drake's dad was accused of mishandling of funds, yet it was the tv production cost cutting on the cast and crew

Welcome to the subreddit for the documentary Quiet on Set: The Dark Side of Kids TV - a docu-series that uncovers the toxic culture behind some of the most iconic children’s shows of the late 1990s and early 2000s.

Drake's dad was accused of mishandling of funds, yet it was the tv production cost cutting on the cast and crew

The main events in the documentary revolved around The Amanda show, where the female writers Jenny & Christy, child victims Brandi & Drake and perpetrators Jason & Brian all worked on.

2007 New York Times Article mentioning how The Amanda Show was conceived:

But the turning point in his relationship with the network came after Schneider added to the evolving cast of “All That” a girl named Amanda Bynes. Everyone recognized her as a nascent star, and so the network set about creating a show just for her — without consulting Schneider. The pilot that was shot for this new Bynes vehicle, though, was so poor that the network shelved it and scrapped plans for the series entirely — at which point Schneider felt he had to speak up. “I went to the Nickelodeon executives, and I said: ‘Look, you can’t blame Amanda for that; it was just the wrong project for her. Amanda is such a rangy little actress — she’s like a little Dana Carvey or a little Carol Burnett. What I would have done, if you had come to me, is I would have created a show where she could have played a lot of different characters. More of a sketch-type show.’ So I talked to them for a while and they said O.K., go ahead; and I created ‘The Amanda Show,’ which is one of the most successful shows Nickelodeon has ever had.” (

Quotes from the Quiet on Set Documentary

Joe Bell

He found an attorney to find out about Drake's financial situation. There was never any mishandling of any funds.

Christy Stratton

I remember speaking to the line producer and she said that I was going to have to split a salary with a writer that I did not know. So they were getting two for the price of one. They were going to hire two women and have them share a salary. And I never saw it happen to any of the men.

Jenny Kilgen

I went down to the studio to meet with Dan about Season two. He said, "Here's the deal. We're bringing you back for Season 2, staff writer. We're offering you a 16-week contract, but you need to work the whole season." Which was, I believe, 27 weeks. He was telling me I had to work 11 weeks for free.

Karyn Finley Thompson

One day, I keeled over, and I ended up having to go to the hospital. And, as I'm leaving and curled over, I could hear someone say... "How is the show going to get finished?" And I just remember saying, "I'll be right back!" "I'll be right back." And then, he promised me a job and didn't give it to me. Not only was this job that Dan promised me given to someone else, it was a younger man who had no experience.

Jason Handy

"You and all the kids are why I work for free half the week"

Also remember how Brian Peck was described as being "generous with his time." Did he also take a pay cut like Handy?

___

Also according to Jenny on twitter:

The female writers were only there for season one and there were no predators there at that time. And we were in a separate building. The predators seem to have arrived when production was moved to NICK on SUNSET.

(Brian Peck appeared on the Amanda Show in the later seasons. IMDB credits him on the "Face & Zawyer " episode. And this reddit post said he appeared on Season 3)

___

The payment scheme allegedly carried over to other Nick shows, according to an actress in this video:

I remember working for 4 days, and there was some deal with the contract that I would only be paid for 2 of them, which was shitty but I had the most lines and I knew the other girls were being paid worse.

From the 2022 Business Insider article:

In his memoir, Josh Peck wrote that he made about $450,000 over five years of filming "Drake & Josh." Backstage reported in 2012 that most child-star series regulars earned just $5,000 to $7,000 a week before taxes and expenses, which a parent of three child actors said could reduce weekly take-home pay to a mere $500.

And Drake Bell has talked about not getting residuals during his interview on The Sarah Fraser Show :

... at my age I didn't know that 50% of my money was going to taxes. And that 10% comes out for my agents and 15% for managers. I mean I knew but you can't calculate in your head. So he was putting in my brain, "you know Drake you should be rich like you did a commercial that you should have had $250,000 from that. And that your dad's stealing your money. I mean look how much it happens in Hollywood ... on The Amanda Show I mean we weren't making after taxes, management, agents. You know we weren't making crazy amounts of money. We didn't get residuals on Drake and Josh. And we didn't get residuals on the Amanda Show. So we're really hung out to dry.

How often are Jeremy and Lisa at the farm or in the shop?

so every time the show is in the farm shop there is never anyone there and lisa is always at the counter. I'm assuming they close for filming? Does lisa actually work in the shop does Jeremy/Kaleb actually work the farm or do they just show up for filming and don't here own stuff when the cameras aren't around? Just curious

Dear Pig farmers,
false

I’ve recently watch S3 ep3, and Jesus Christ, I don’t know what I expected but I certainly didn’t expect the sow to have eaten the poor thing! Well anyway, has this happened to anyone else or is this 1 in a million?

My honest opinion on season 3, as someone who works on a farm

So to start off with, I work part-time on a mixed ag farm, and live near multiple farms. Mixed ag meaning cattle and conventional crop farming.

Maybe it's just me, but the series is beggining to feel like "rich man fucks around on farm" versus anything related to farming.

I genuinely think I've seen tractors in maybe 10-15 minutes in the latest sesson, and didn't actually see anything related to planting crops or any processes involved within that. Which is fine for a reality tv show, but you can't really talk about farming without actually showing anything involving said farming.

The pigs, while cute for tv definitely were, atleast in my opinion, done fairly poorly. I specifically called my boss when I watched the episode and asked his advice for this scenario, to which immediately he said that leaving the pigs outside wasn't the greatest idea. Admitting it was realistic for a farm if they didn't have a large shed or area dedicated to breeding, but with Clarkson having the lambing barn, there should have been atleast a small discussion on moving them into there. And Jeremy and Lisa sleeping together is something that would NEVER happen on a farm, when our cattle would start calving, immediately you would be on a 12 hour shift where 1 person sleeps, 1 works. Then swap after 12 hours. Nearly every single piglet that died, died while Jeremy and Lisa weren't there. It's just something that isn't done, and I can't understand why they did it.

With Lisa and Jeremy crawling into the same area as the sows just gave me the heebies, and did genuinely frustrate me. With pigs, especially pregnant sows, they can go from happy to extremely pissed in about 2 seconds. This normally isn't too big of a deal, but when You're on the ground, well let's just say that you don't ever want to be on the ground with a pissed off sow, let alone on the ground in an enclosed area. (They will kill you, or atleast heavily injure you. They literally weigh 2-300kg. You don't want to fuck with them)

The competition with Jeremy and Caleb is a good idea, but again, a farming show with no focus on farming is Abit different. And Jeremy putting the lambos maintenance on Caleb's side was frustrating, especially since deutz tractors are quite expensive compared to other brands when it comes to maintenance (atleast in my experience) and on our farm, most maintenance, actually all, Is done by either myself or my boss. So that charge was already alot, let alone plonking it on Caleb's side. Especially when Caleb has repeatedly said the deutz is too big for the farm, which I very much agree with. (Lamborghini don't actually make tractors anymore, the Lambo is a deutz tractor with white paint and a badge change)

The tree fiasco that cost 3K was just bizarre, especially when a working farm would definitely not even remotely bother with that.

The sustainable ag section was actually a nice idea, but they really left out a lot of info.

It would be the equivalent of selling a car and saying "oh yes, it's only 500$, goes amazingly" and neglecting to mention it has no engine.

The reason that many farms don't plant 2 crops types together is literally the cost. You definitely do lose atleast a little bit of crop due to the harvester being borderline impossible to tune in, but when you sell said crop, the cost to separate 1 grain from another outstrips practically all the earning benefits you would've gotten. Add in that, as Caleb said, they have an entirely different seeder that (in his opinion) woudlnt work in Jeremy's field, meaning that normally a farm would have to purchase a new seeder. Trust me, they make Mercedes look cheap. Seeders, or farming equipment in general is absurdly expensive.

The farm shop didn't help the case, with Lisa continually doing everything in her power to help the council screw over Jeremy. I get the weird Irish thing with not liking rules, I don't like them either, but when you have council literally breathing down your neck, probably sending people in to check where product is coming from, just to find out that Lisa is routinely breaking the rule about the radius is infuriating.

Keep in mind Jeremy's entire premise for being allowed to open the store was to sell local product, just to be shown that the rule was broken multiple times. I fuckin hate the council, and I can vouch that all councils including my local council are assholes, but no wonder he's being denied after he broke the rule the entire shop was built on top of, and why they turn him down after that is no surprise.

I genuinely love the show, but I just wish it would push away from "rich man plays with farm" to actual farming, where losses do genuinely hurt the farm, where you can't just do this random idea that'll lose you 200K, because I've already had people ask me about why my boss doesn't do stuff they've seen on the show, not knowing that a farm doesn't have the profit margins to play around with these ideas. And show more the process that actual farmers go through.

Hopefully next season we'll see more of the actual farming bits, instead of hobby farming in a forest, or landscaping: chipping Norton edition.
