Australian employers continue to struggle with the post-pandemic employment market as workers balk at returning full-time to the office. Energy firms such as AGL and Origin and financial services companies ANZ and Suncorp Group have resorted to threats of performance review mark-downs and bonus cuts if employees fail to return to the office at least part-time.

Sydney Children’s Hospital Foundation director of people and culture Mariam Hares says that in the aftermath of the COVID-19 pandemic, “flexibility, culture, wellbeing and … purpose” have emerged as key priorities for employees.
