Congrats man, purchasing a home is a very proud moment in your life, enjoy it.

[–]ir88ed 70 points71 points  (2 children)

Finding your moon is a beautiful thing

[–]MJO_Niimbus [score hidden]  (0 children)

If Bitcoin hits 100k, I will be able to almost kill my mortgage !

[–]derichsma23 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Getting mooned is also a beautiful thing, given there’s no hair

[–]EshaShahhh [score hidden]  (0 children)

I’m glad

[–]CaptainPugwash75 644 points645 points  (39 children)

An intelligent use of taking profits. 🙌

[–]krasserfcker 168 points169 points  (16 children)

Congrats friend. Even though not selling is our wish, sometimes we would still need that money.

Had to do the same in the last bullrun.

[–]Cky2k169 33 points34 points  (15 children)

Real estate triggers Canadians. When people call Bitcoin scam ... I shake my head and think of how scummy Canadian real estate is.

[–]annoyer9000 8 points9 points  (11 children)

It's not just the real estate.. all of Canada is a scam (minus perhaps having an education from a Canadian university)

[–]Mercurio_Arboria 5 points6 points  (8 children)

LOL is this just propaganda to keep Americans out?

(Absolutely would not blame you one bit if it were, of course.)

(Edit to clarify I'm an American who enjoys saying I'm running away to Canada.)

[–]Shoddy_Operation_742 9 points10 points  (1 child)

Most of Canada’s economy is based off of people selling real estate to each other back and forth for inflated prices. Not sustainable.

[–]Able_Security_3479 [score hidden]  (0 children)

Fixed it for you:

Most of Canada and New Zealand's economy is based off of people selling real estate to each other back and forth for inflated prices. Not sustainable.

[–]Nado155 12 points13 points  (5 children)

Its fucking true I am german who works and life’s in Canada and Canada is a 3. world country, you pay more for less here. Everything has shitty quality. The plastic houses that sell for 1M CAD are the biggest joke on earth, the quality of food is bad as well as most restaurants, streets are worse than in thailand. Health system, tipping culture? Lets stop here Canada has extremely nice people and the nature is amazing but the rest is awful

[–]ProfessionalWelcome -1 points0 points  (3 children)

Lol. Canada is fucking amazing. It's free, safe, clean, and there's opportunity to succeed. Stop whining.

[–]Murdoc555 9 points10 points  (1 child)

It was amazing how Trudeau froze the bank accounts of all those truckers a few years ago. You defending Canada and promoting crypto is about the most oxy moronic thing you can say.

[–]BudBuster69 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Well I am canadian and I do agree with that german fella.

[–]sparkyismydogsname -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

username checks out

[–]transfermymoons 348 points349 points  (61 children)

That is awesome. And diverting bitcoin into other appreciating and necessary assets like a home is in my book an utter win!

[–]Tiny_Poet_8230 2 points3 points  (21 children)

I would oberthink this. Till now, houses were the best store of value. Now people have the choice to either buy a new house, or buy bitcoin instead. Bitcoin will outperform houses, so the number of people investing in houses will decrease, so the demand will shrink. This will lead to house prices dropping. We'll have a 2008 on crack soon. After the bubble crashed, houses will cost a fraction of what they cost now.

[–]RespectibleCabbage 50 points51 points  (12 children)

You can’t live in a bitcoin though.

[–]International-Law562 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Hold my beer!

[–]Human_Traffic_3775 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You can live on a Bitcoin though. At least you will be able to soon.

[–]Tiny_Poet_8230 1 point2 points  (5 children)

I dont say buying a house with bitcoin is bad... I think its just horrible timing. Houses are at abolute ATH all over the world. Why buy something in an overheatet market.

[–]RespectibleCabbage 13 points14 points  (1 child)

Sure but not everyone has the luxury of waiting. If this guys needs a place to live, then he needs a place to live.

I agree with you on the general principle though. If you can afford to wait, then now is absolutely the time to wait. Some people can’t afford to wait though.

[–]McD-Szechuan [score hidden]  (0 children)

Houses are at abolute ATH all over the world. Why buy something in an overheatet market

Are you saying the same about BTC right now? I don’t know what you classify as overheated but… it’s so hot right now. Also approaching ATH itself.

[–]grndslm -2 points-1 points  (3 children)

You can live in a vehicle, a tent, a cardboard box, a hammock with bug net and tarp....

Use your imagination and keep the money where it multiplies.  No sense in trading an asset that gains 200%/yr for one that costs 6%/yr.

[–]OzManCumeth 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Your position is to keep wealth in Bitcoin over having stable housing? Jesus Christ

[–]Cryptotiptoe21 2 points3 points  (3 children)

I haven't thought about this dynamic and it is just another thing to look forward to when it comes to bitcoin.

[–]Electrical_Candy_941 1 point2 points  (2 children)

One of my buddies is a long time investor, just sold his home and bought Btc.

[–]Tiny_Poet_8230 1 point2 points  (1 child)

That would be my strategy too... Sadly i own nothing anmore😂

[–]PM_ME_UR_DITTIES 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What utter nonsense... comments like this are why people don't take bitcoin enthusiasts seriously.

[–]bigheader03 103 points104 points  (1 child)

Congratulations! I love hearing stories like this.

[–]RHINO_HUMP 13 points14 points  (0 children)

[–]i-r-n00b- 60 points61 points  (3 children)

Great, make sure you set enough aside for taxes

[–]StickyHopkins 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Underrated comment OP. Listen and be warned. Very important to keep the tax reaper happy or else.....

[–]pantuso_eth 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I just finished that nightmare last night (US taxes)

[–]Jam3sYO 1 point2 points  (0 children)

[–]YBOR__ 13 points14 points  (9 children)

Congrats! I plan on selling part of mine for Lasik soon

[–]WhiteDogNC 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I did Lasix in June ‘01 and it was one of the best things I’ve ever done in my life. Ignore the haters and fear mongering.

[–]OldPyjama 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Did Lasik 10 years ago. Went fine and very happy about it.

[–]nate-doggg 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Take a tour of r/dryeyes before you do lasik. This isn’t a side effect for all but severe dry eye makes people seriously consider whether they want to continue living. Not to say that great vision won’t dramatically improve your life, but dry eye can dramatically worsen it. Definitely go into it with both eyes open (no pun intended)

[–]badadadok 12 points13 points  (0 children)

you won, congrats on the new home!

[–]Ren7sp 10 points11 points  (1 child)

This is why we bitcoin

[–]Clearly_Ryan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, it's not. You hold Bitcoin and instead take a mortgage on the house. The mortgage is debt that becomes debased as the currency hyperinflates. The asset value of the house will increase exponentially over 30 years. You take a line of credit against the house to pay off the mortgage or you sell an extremely small amount of BTC to make the monthly payments. After 30 years, you have a free house, zero debt, and nearly all of your BTC preserved.

[–]secondtrades 34 points35 points  (7 children)

Congrats on the first house, it's an amazing feeling

[–]BtcKing1111 7 points8 points  (1 child)

it's an amazing feeling

[–]SkyRepresentative309 7 points8 points  (0 children)

i'm happy for you- enjoy the new home!

[–]Cormyster12 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Congrats

[–]Dextradomis 13 points14 points  (2 children)

...good for you! Funny how when I sold a little bit of my stack to make some emergency repairs on my house I was shit on by this community. Glad to see a turn around.

[–]omega05 0 points1 point  (1 child)

It doesnt appears you were shat on merely for selling some bitcoin for repairs...

[–]DimensionBig718 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Congrats man!

[–]zanefromnyc 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Congratulations!

[–]receipts 5 points6 points  (0 children)

No one ever mentions paying tax

[–]Tiny-Tie-7427 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I went the opposite direction. Sold my home and bought BTC for avg 36

[–]LetWaltCook 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I remember when I sold at 3k for a king sized bed... I'm now sleeping on what should have been 67k

[–]Frapa2a 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Buying a house is a common dream of many people all around the world. Well done for being able to make it happen. Now let's move on to the next dream 😉

[–]69lana69 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Good job, must feel incredible. You should be proud of your accomplishment. If you had the wisdom to make the moves over 5 years you will capitalize on future opportunities. Have a blessed week friend.

[–]CakeOverall4228 3 points4 points  (1 child)

For me it was the opposite. I was buying my home at late 2022, and my BTC was deep in red.
Then I have decided to sell my more "conservative" ETF investments. I became a homeowner, 100% bitcoin, and with the latest price action I am over %100 in profit. ehehe

[–]Tiny_Poet_8230 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Allmost feel bad to say it, but i think this was a bad dessicion. Bitcoin will go to the moon, and prices of houses will drop.

[–]Vivid-Art6939 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You sold it 1 month before the halvening?

[–]jmedwedew 6 points7 points  (1 child)

I can do this and I should, but the thought of parting with a single coin... Lol I'm Smaug.

[–]No-Commercial-2218 3 points4 points  (0 children)

🚀

[–]MyOnlyEnemyIsMeSTYG 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Congrats Op !! Love to see people winning using btc

[–]kirkwooder 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Congrats, welcome home.

[–]Kerb3r0s 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Congrats!! You set aside some of that cash for taxes right?

[–]riding_bones 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I will never buy a house, i will rent forever. I did the numbers.

I mean, if what we want is a house under our name and pay taxes on it, fine.... but i rather put 100% in bitcoin, and dca out my rent, and let the landlord pay the taxes.

But man, happy for you. We all have different stories.

[–]UncleBarry___ 5 points6 points  (0 children)

How much was that

[–]Pleasant-Expert201 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Congrats, best of luck to you.

[–]yungvenus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

[–]AMAROK300 2 points3 points  (2 children)

[–]StrictlyStoopid 2 points3 points  (0 children)

[–]Driver044 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Congrats , also good luck

[–]StormSnacker 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My man! And congratulations on your home :)

[–]Historical_Ad2480 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Congrats, trading one asset for another (one you can live in) seems like a damn smart move whenever I hear it. Can't live in btc

[–]Abundance144 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oof. Glad you're happy. But I'm confident you're going to be kicking yourself in ten years...

[–]vwkv1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's the smart thing to do.

[–]Fertig21 2 points3 points  (0 children)

BTC up another 2k since he sold 🚀

[–]CousinGregsSongBird 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nice! Congrats! When I bought BTC forever ago I told myself I'd sell one to pay for my wedding, one to pay off my student loans, and another to pay off my mortgage when they each broke those price barriers.

I did, in fact, sell one for my wedding. One coin could now pay for my student loans, but I'm not selling, and I don't think I'd sell one for my house either.

I'm just straight addicted to being a BTC maxi. ¯_(ツ)_/¯

[–]pantuso_eth 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Congrats! You converted a portion of your BTC into a leveraged position on another hard asset. It's a good move, and hopefully more to come

[–]FreeChampionship2455 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Congratulations! I am in the process of buying a home right now and have been trying my hardest not to sell any of my stack to finance it. This makes me feel better about probably having to take some profits

[–]brorow1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Congratulations man. I’m not there yet, but this is what I intend to do. Give me 5 years and I’ll be there too.

[–]PrettyProgrammer9017 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You sold? Now?!? Right before a halving? Are you mad?

[–]fluschy 11 points12 points  (4 children)

Its funny, the people congratulating are the ones who paid him his new home. 😂

[–]Kerb3r0s 15 points16 points  (0 children)

That’s how an economy works. Isn’t it cool??

[–]JustCommunication640 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Congratulations! The people commenting here who are so confident that bitcoin will keep going up have no clue what will happen and are just fearful about holding.

[–]one-bad-dude 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Bitcoin IS my home.

[–]bananabastard 12 points13 points  (15 children)

Congrats. I mean, if you'd waited 18 months, maybe you could have bought the house outright.

[–]Natsta2364[S] 49 points50 points  (1 child)

You could be right! But life doesn't stop still

[–]Deep-Distribution779 3 points4 points  (0 children)

True that - and ur keepin 30% of ur bag intact

- so ur still in the game !!!!

[–]Backpacker7385 9 points10 points  (12 children)

Or maybe Bitcoin will be worth $10k again in 18 months. Is your crystal ball working better than the rest of ours?

[–]richb83 5 points6 points  (2 children)

Congrats man. If you can hold out wait 90 days before submitted your proof of funds to the bank. They will have all sorts of questions about where the deposit came from which usually causes all sorts of delays and additional paper work. If the funds have been in your account over 90 days they will not ask about it.

[–]jazzwhiz 2 points3 points  (1 child)

Can you provide some literature on this? I may be in the same situation as OP in a bit and haven't heard about this 90 day rule. Obviously I know that banks tend to be uncomfortable about transactions to/from crypto exchanges, but I didn't know there was a specific mortgage issue.

Edit: FYI for others look up the term "seasoned" when googling this stuff.

[–]picsit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bad Move, The road to $100K has just started.

[–]Jaythiest 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nice work!! Congrats

[–]ExitBest 3 points4 points  (3 children)

Remind me of this in a year.

[–]monaarts 4 points5 points  (2 children)

Why? So you can say “you could have sold for 3x as much and just been homeless for 1 year”?? The dude just bought a house - there is more to life than just gains on money.

[–]OldPyjama 2 points3 points  (2 children)

When BTC reaches 110k, I will sell 80% of my stack to pay off the loan of my home (whats left of it) and be debt free. This will spare me 700€ monthly for the next 20 years. I'll keep 20% and slowly re-DCA. But I'll be debt free.

Congrats on reaching that goal. Smart move.

[–]Armadillodillodillo 1 point2 points  (1 child)

House debt is like cheapest money you can ever get. Paying off house debt is financially bad move, but if it burdens your mind so much, I guess it solves that problem.

[–]slugur 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Correct answer but only a few people understand this. It's like everyone has been brainwashed from birth that "you must buy a house and you need to pay it off as soon as you can"

[–]Schwickity 9 points10 points  (1 child)

Damn couldn’t wait one more year?!

[–]PalavraSincera 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Same feeling...

[–]gl0ckInMyRari 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Ouch

[–]Reasonable_City 1 point2 points  (8 children)

Anyone that says this is a good move does not understand bitcoin.

That house will cost you 5x at least because you didn't hold and grind out 1 more year.

Mark this post if you don't believe me or btc.

[–]lionsling 2 points3 points  (1 child)

was gonna say something similar, the bullrun has either just started, or is about to begin, i'd hodl still, but to each their own and i dont blame anyone for taking profit

[–]Reasonable_City 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No. Bull run started a year ago. January 2023. Check the chart

[–]Used_Ad6860 2 points3 points  (4 children)

Future is always uncertain my friend

[–]Reasonable_City 2 points3 points  (3 children)

Usd going to zero and btc going to infinity is a certainty

[–]Used_Ad6860 1 point2 points  (2 children)

The likelihood of USD collapsing is incredibly small

[–]Angustony [score hidden]  (0 children)

Maybe, maybe not. The dude got everything he needed to make a material difference to his and his families lives, forever. Whatever else happens from now on is irrelevant.

He's already won because he does not have to grind for another year.

Asset value growth is not the most important thing for a happy life.

[–]mpcxl2500 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Congrats. Just sold some to pay my real estate tax

[–]Putrid_Pollution3455 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I keep thinking that maybe I should buy some, fomo is high right now

[–]ChipW24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

[–]gabbrielzeven 0 points1 point  (0 children)

[–]ElPollo4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Six months later, even with the rise, I feel more comfortable in my home than with the chunk I had to trade. Best of luck to you!

[–]BITMiningLimited [score hidden]  (0 children)

I can make that in a year on the stock market

[–]VerticalPoultry 0 points1 point  (2 children)

[–]sampletopia 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Finding a home you want to live in, in the place you want to live, for a price you can afford, at a time when you are ready to move and have the time to commit to the purchase process is already waiting for so many stars to align without factoring in the crypto market, and it’s not exactly low right now.

[–]SPedigrees -1 points0 points  (0 children)
