You can't live in a bitcoin.

I used a large portion of my bitcoin to put a deposit down on a house as well about 6 years ago. This was about $20,000 in bitcoin (exchange was around 14K at the time).

The house I used to live in now rents for 300% of what it did when I moved out. Not saying ALL of that would have been passed on to me, but I'm sure some of it would.

Rents are going up every year. Other than insurance and tax changes, my payments are gonna stay about where they are (and in fact have gone down when I refied a couple years back). The rent on the house I moved out of is over $1500 more a month than what I'm paying and will only go up from there. Over 6 years that's $108,000. The bitcoin, had I not touched it, would be around $95,000. I've since bought back some (but not near that level) of coin as well.

Even with costs for home repairs and maintenance, which cut down the savings a bit, I don't regret it. I gave up some bitcoin, and gained more money in my pocket, flexibility in how my home is laid out and used, and a yard for my kids and the freedom to live our life without hearing our neighbors and them hearing us.

And isn't that what it's all about?

*Edit: oh, yeah, and I've gained about another $200,000 in equity since then, so there's that.
