According to Peter David (the writer of this episode), the point of this scene wasn't that Upchuck can now eat human food (he couldn't in the original series), it's that Mr. Smoothy is so bad that it doesn't even qualify as food

Are there any comic book characters that you only trust their original creators to write? I often hear that's the case for Gwenpool, but me, personally, I feel that way about Spider-Man 2099. Anything with him written by anyone but Peter David just kills me inside.

Fundraiser for Kathleen David by Graham Murphy : Peter David Fund (gofundme.com)

He's had some compounded health problems, and the bills are piling up! On top of kidney failure, and the steep medical bills incurred from that, he just had another series of strokes AND a mild heart attack.

As we wish him a swift recovery, and send our love and support to his wife Kathleen and his family, let's also pitch in and help with their medical bills and living expenses. Please give what you can to relieve some of the immense stress that this family is going through right now.

On behalf of Peter, Kathleen, and the whole family, thank you!

Star Trek TNG: Vendetta by Peter David is phenomenal.

Wow, what a book! I’m late to the Trek novel game and Peter David by far is my fave author, alongside Reeves-Steven’s and Duane, but this one read like a huge 5 part TNG episode. It had huge set-pieces, terrifying depictions of the Borg, moving characterizations, past episode call-backs, creatively written battles, logical dialogue, emotional moments, everybody got their chance to shine. And in the end, it was a tragedy with a bittersweet ending, a Vendetta unable to let go.

Was David’s depiction of the Borg pretty much canon until First Contact and the latter Borg-ish seasons of Voyager came out?
