I should have gotten married younger. Don’t make the same mistake I did

I’ve known my ex husband** for a long time (not dating, acquaintances) before we got married. If we had just hitched early on instead of waiting for “the right circumstances” we would’ve had more time together. I could have spent all my 20s with him instead of just the last years. My biggest regret is that we didn’t have more time together. We could have, we should have if we hadn’t delayed marriage.

Get married, kids. Stop waiting around for whatever. The marriage market gets worse with time, not better so invest in your love life early on. Grow together.

**because I know people will ask. Why is he my ex? He was diagnosed with schizophrenia early on in our marriage. It took some time to find the right meds, but once he did, he was doing well in his career and personal life. As tough times often do, it brought him closer to the deen and in some of the classes he was taking he was somehow convinced to get off his meds and rely only on the Quran. And honestly, he was doing beyond amazing for the first little while (the meds can be numbing). Unsurprisingly, his symptoms came back with a vengeance. He had one really violent episode and I had to get him committed. He got back on his meds, they released him and then he divorced me 😕. He left me because he couldn’t forgive himself for hurting me, for letting himself be led astray by his so called friends, for his “poor judgment.” I never held anything against him. His broke his own heart and mine. I wish I got more time with him.

PSA: Use your local library

I have started frequenting the library (two different ones in JHB over the last year) as my 3 year old LOVES being read to at bedtime but kids books are expensive so now we loan them from the library. The two I have used are clean and quiet and have a great selection of kids books. It's become an outing for my daughter and I . We read one or two shorter books in the library and then take out three for home. Kids can get three to keep for up to 3 weeks and adults can take 6. Joining is free and done through a simple online process. Literacy is such a challenge in our country and yet we have access to books with stock which is hardly used these days.

What now ?

So once upon a time a teenager girl told me that she was so mad at her parents that she wanted to kill herself,

The only problem was that that day they had cooked chicken and she didn't want to die before the chicken was finished and by the time the chicken was over , she wasn't that angry anymore.

Now back in 2013 I wen I started considering the best way to die without pain, the only problem was that my kids were too young and I wanted to be around just incase they need me.

But now that one is a teenager and the other is 10 am not worried about them and I know the mum has been and is capable of taking care of them . Now that, i realised some years ago . Since then , the only hopefull thing I've had is the possibility of finding a nice girl the live for , but right now that the percentage of that hope has dropped significantly, having turned 44 years old last week Thursday 2 may 2024 . Right now am just working, eating, and sleeping. So with nothing to loose and nothing to live for , what happens now .

Happy single life

Are there ladies like me who aren't obsessed with getting married?

I see a lot of discussions about marriage, and I'm happy for people who are looking for a partner, but I just live my whole life single and I'm happy alhamdulilah

Are there ladies between 22-30 who just enjoy life, have their own house, and go on trips, shopping, etc?

Do you regret not getting married early?

Also the guys who feel the same way.

Game is game?

I'm a male (21) and I have been talking to this female (20) for about a month now . Everything has been cool from the dates we have had but the only problem has been the sex. It wasn't exactly great if I may term is it since we've only had it once. So last week a random girls IG account follows me and hits me up telling me how good looking I am and what not. I tell her Im in a relationship and the only way we can talk is platonically. She is insistent and keeps on pushing and I'm like fuck this let me give this a try. So we set a date to meet and the location but this all time I haven't really talked to her like via voice call and I'm thinking this is either a catfish or a set up but because I'm thinking with my dick , I refuse to trust my intuition. So D-day comes and I go to the rendezvous spot we had agreed.Im just there waiting for this girl to come and I get a phone call from my girl, she tells me and I quote " The girl you're looking for isn't there" and she hang ups the phone. We are still talking and I have apologized but she's still insistent we continue with this relationship but I'm a bit skeptical. So what should I do?

Strength in Belief: The Resilience of Somali Patients

In my decade-long tenure in healthcare, with the last eight years spent as a doctor, I have continually been struck by the unwavering resilience of the Somali spirit. In the delicate art of delivering difficult news, we healthcare professionals are trained to orchestrate a series of actions, carefully calibrated to gently impart the gravity of the situation. From the initial phone call, laden with ominous hints, to the somber faces and secluded rooms upon arrival, every step is choreographed to prepare the recipient for life-altering news, be it a recurring cancer diagnosis or the necessity of an amputation.

Despite our best efforts, the emotional outpouring that often follows such disclosures is expected. Yet, when faced with delivering similar news to a Somali individual, I have consistently encountered a profound faith and remarkable patience. Take, for instance, the elderly Somali Adeer who, upon learning of his terminal illness, calmly asserted, "It is God who heals and helps" - "Ilaahay baa wax caawiya." Or the Somali Aunty who, upon hearing her cancer diagnosis, serenely responded, "Inshallah Khair" - "God willing, it's for the best," even as the oncologist reiterated the gravity of her condition.

One sentence that has remained with me from a few years ago was uttered by a fellow physician, who described this aspect as "Their acceptance of mortality is truly phenomenal."

Moreover, Somali patients exhibit a steadfast commitment to their faith, devoutly observing their prayers, often inquiring about prayer rooms, and offering their prayers unapologetically from their hospital beds.

The unwavering faith and resilience displayed our people in the face of adversity serves as a testament not only to their remarkable strength but also to our collective future. In their steadfast belief in a higher power and their quiet determination to navigate life's challenges with grace, Somalis embody a nation and people determined to forge a brighter path ahead. Inshallah!

The Somali poet said:

Lix meeshaad ku joogtaan, Dagaal laabta ka ogaada.
Haddii luqunta la idin jaro, lugaha Meermeersha.

With six of your kin, let thoughts of war inspire,
Even with heads severed from your bodies, let legs propel the fight
