r/Rivian is the largest and most active fan-run auto-enthusiast Rivian community. We discuss the electric vehicle company, Rivian Automotive, along with their products and brand (not the stock). In 2023, Rivian produced 57,232 EVs and delivered 50,122. In 2022, Rivian produced 24,337 EVs and delivered 20,332 — up from 1,015 in 2021. Rivian produces the R1T, R1S, EDV, and will be releasing the R2, R3, and R3X in the next few years.
I was running a gen 3 tesla wall connector with a Lectron adapter for the last year. I had quite a few overheating issues. While the Lectron adapter wasn't hot or even warm to the touch, my Tesla wall connector would give me the overheating error (3 red blinks of the top LED.
I worked with Lectron and received a new adapter. That helped for about a month. I thought my garage was overheating, but I went into the winter months and still had issues. I tried parking my truck outside on a cool day while charging, but the overheating error persisted.
I recently swapped out my Tesla wall connector for the new universal wall connector. I've had multiple charges without an issue. I'm impressed with how well this thing is designed. The adapter is integrated into the base and cannot be removed without the charging wand. Therefore, the adapter cannot be lost. My favorite part is that the wand clicks into the wall connector and can only be released by pressing the button (see video). My original wall connector had a wimpy little notch, and if you bumped the charging cord, the wand would fall out and slam on the ground.
