Manage your contacts

You can manage your conversations, invites, and contacts in Google Hangouts.

Classic Hangouts is being replaced by Google Chat for everyone. You are no longer able to use classic Hangouts on most platforms. Learn about the switch from classic Hangouts to Google Chat.

Note: The Google+ integration with Google Hangouts has been turned off. Invitation notification settings for contacts previously in "Your circles" are now included in the "Everyone else" setting. You can change notification settings at any time by following the steps in the "Let people contact you without an invite" section below.

See your contacts

1. On your computer, go to Hangouts at hangouts.google.com.
2. Click Contacts  or Hangouts contacts .
3. You’ll see a full list of your contacts.

Add someone to your contacts

1. Go to Hangouts at hangouts.google.com.
2. At the top, click New conversation .
3. Type a name, phone number, or email address.
4. Send an invite or start a conversation to add the person to your contacts.

Keep a contact at the top

To keep a contact at the top, even when they’re offline, point to their name and click More Pin to top.

Hide a contact

To hide a contact on your list, point to their name and click More Hide.

See conversations and invites

1. Go to Hangouts at hangouts.google.com.
2. Click Open conversations .

Let people contact you without an invite

1. Go to Hangouts at hangouts.google.com.
2. Open your settings:
   • On the Hangouts app, click Menu   Settings.
3. Click Customize invite settings.
4. Select Customized and choose who needs an invite and who doesn’t.
