Voting Rights - LA
We’ve filed an amicus brief, along with The Sentencing Project and the NAACP Legal Defense and Educational Fund, in a lawsuit challenging Louisiana’s felony disenfranchisement policy. Our friend-of-the-court brief demonstrates how Louisiana’s felony disenfranchisement laws are rooted in racial discrimination.
We also worked successfully to pass legislation in 2018 to restore voting rights to thousands of Louisiana residents who have been on probation or parole for five years or more.
In 2020 and beyond, we will continue to advocate for the voting rights of people with convictions and to strengthen election protection programs across the state.
Restore Your Right to Vote
Are you a Louisiana resident who can no longer vote because of a criminal record? You may be able to have your voting rights restored. Learn the details on our Voting Rights Restoration Fact Sheet.
