It’s undeniable she is convincingly diabolical as Aunt Lydia, but she was also in the series ‘The Leftovers’ as another disturbed and complex character. Her performances are simply stellar - one of the very best.

She is just an amazing actress. I was very emotional during the Janine bedside scene. Just wow. I hope this is her turning point.

I need to praise Ann Dowd for the way that she has taken on the role of Aunt Lydia. Her character has evoked so many emotions, good (rarely), bad (often), and awful (all the time). She has taken this character, a hated character, and give her a personality. She has given her life. As much as I hate Aunt Lydia, all I can do is appreciate the amazing acting of Ann Dowd!

Aunt Lydia has always been a terrifying character to me. There is nothing scarier than someone who does evil things and genuinely believes they’re doing good. She’s a character who you truly love to hate, and Dowd is so phenomenally talented at bringing such an intense character to life.

Every scene with her in it, she completely steals the spotlight IMO, but never more so than the hospital scene in this episode.

The sheer raw emotion shown in her voice and facial expressions and body language were amazing. I literally had to pause the episode just to write this. Stellar performance by an amazing actress.

What’s your favorite Aunt Lydia scene? Because this one is mine now, easily.

I don't understand how Ann Dowd didn't get nominated for an emmy for her work in season 5. The scene where Aunt Lydia is begging God to punish her, and not Janine is ONE OF THE BEST in season 5. I may hate Aunt Lydia but it's only because Ann Dowd is such an amazing actress.

So, I was checking some Ann Dowd interviews as she is promoting her movie Mass (absolutely recommended btw) and found this little treasure.

She was asked about her involvement in The Testaments and she said she has talked about it with Warren Littlefield (one of the top executive producers) and while she doesn't have any info about the spin off itself, she says she will hopefully be involved AND...

That there will be 2 seasons of Handmaid's Tale and then The Testaments will follow!!

Check what she said in my Instagram post here

She also said that she already read Season 5's first script and she describes it as 'thrilling' she says those who watch Handmaid's will be very happy with it.

What do you think about ending it with Season 6? I think it's a smart decision... There's a 15 year gap between the first book (first season) and The Testaments, the show has covered around 5 years with seasons 2, 3 and 4.. There's still story to tell to give June and the other characters a fitting farewell and make a smooth transition to the sequel.

Ann Dowd / Patti - isn't she just like some teacher, mom, sistet or aunt etc we've all had?

SMALL SPOILER

Just the way she says "Kevin" cracks me up.

It's like when your mother says James Alan Thompson you get in here and clean your room.

Or Mr. Smith, so you believe you can talk in the middle of class and disrupt everyone else do you? Maybe you'd like to share your conversation with the rest of the class?

I delivered newspapers on my bike 5:30-6:30 rain or shine 365 days a year in NY back when I was 12.

I agreed to give my home phone number to just one of my customers, an old retired elementary school teacher I trusted to not abuse it. If I ever overslept (which only happened a couple of times) she'd call the house and say "James, did you forget to deliver Mrs. Anderson's paper this morning" and I'd say, "Yes, Mrs. Anderson, it will be there in the next half hour or sooner."

35 years later I can still hear her - she talked just exactly like Patti when she says, "Kevin, ..."
