LPT: To make a mixed drink seem stronger, rub the rim with the alcohol used

Want to keep your weak-livered friends from throwing up on your bed at a house party? Want to keep that one friend who gets really racist when drunk from insulting your friends? Then read on!

When serving drinks, just rub the rim of a drink with alcohol. This will make the first thing you taste and smell be the pure alcohol and make it seem like the drink is much stronger than it is.

My brother taught me this trick to keep rowdy family members from getting too drunk too fast. It works wonders!

Bonus: Tell the drink receiver to "watch out, it's very strong" and they'll likely take a sniff of the drink before drinking - smelling mostly pure alcohol. They will also be aware that they're drinking a "strong" drink and hopefully pace themselves.

TIL: During Prohibition in the US, it was illegal to buy or sell alcohol, but it was not illegal to drink it. Some wealthy people bought out entire liquor stores before it passed to ensure they still had alcohol to drink.

Anyone else just hate how drinking alcohol is a norm?

This probably has been said before but I feel like I need to reiterate it. The fact that alcohol is pushed into our faces by: making it a cultural norm to celebrate your first drink the day you turn legal age, having excessive amounts of pubs/bars in the middle of town, advertising liquor on magazines, billboards, bathrooms, etc., people bragging about how much they can drink and or talk about how cool it is to be blackout drunk and getting wAsTeD, it’s truly disgusting and I’m disappointed in society for it. I understand that alcohol can be controlled at a mature level but almost all adults cannot control their liquor which leads to alcoholism, family issues, damage to physical and mental health and so much more issues down the road. I’m not going to be on my high horse because I have admittedly drank too much plenty of times and or purposely went over my limit due to my poor drinking choices and the alcohol increases more poor choices. Anyways, I hate myself because it’s been only giving me negative outcomes, never positive. I just wish alcohol wasn’t a norm and it was more of a niche thing, as if it was something that people weren’t talking about how drunk they got on the weekend or how stupid they acted on alcohol.

I’m so over people. Had this guess who came in with his girlfriend was nice calm and chill and we were getting along fine. They ordered a cocktail. I brought it to them as they are eating their appetizers he tells me that his girlfriends cocktail taste like there’s no alcohol in it. I apologize and I tell that I will go to the Bartender to have them remake it. Bartender tells me that he put enough alcohol in it then remakes it for them.

At the very end once I drop the check and he paid, he tells me “you know my girl was upset that she had no alcohol in it and it was nothing that you did “

I ask “what would you have liked me to do?”

He responds to take it off the bill. But she clearly drank all of it.

I say theres nothing I can do.

He tips me 10% on a 175 bill.

I was so upset. I feel thats something they do. Complain there is barely any alcohol in the drink, drink it then try to get it comped.

Oh? Do you drink? New Zealands attitude to alcohol.

Oh? Do you drink? New Zealands attitude to alcohol.

The older I get, the more i cringe at the weird relationship some people here have with alcohol. Specifically making it a central pillar of their entire identity.

I guess it's not just NZ as David Brent's character on The Office is really the perfect embodiment of the "oh? Do you drink?" personality. Making sure everyone knows you like to drink, or you like to get wild like some 14 year old. Recalling with pride getting so rat arsed in the weekend that ylu pissed your pants and lost your wallet.

I work with guys in their 50s and 60s who are like this. You can't have a conversation without it coming up. On work group chats or Facebook groups, incessant posting of fucking beer or wine memes. "Any plans for the weekend? Yeah! A lot of drinking. Meeting my old friends Jim Jack and Johnny. Can we get a beer fridge for the break room?" Please shut the fuck up about it for 2 minutes. It reminds me of weed guys who get really into weed around the ages if 17-21, and agiain make it their whole identity. But 99% of smokers grow out of that. Yet the alcohol obsession continues well into middle age.

Reading the people on this sub having a sook because they aren't able to buy alcohol at all times. Having 3 days they arent able to go to a bottle shop. Get a grip dipshits.

Is it ok to drink alcohol in the morning if I work night shift?

I’ve worked night shift for 5 years yet somehow still get ridiculed as if I’m an alcoholic for having a beer or mixed drink at 7 am when I clock out of work at 6 am. Like the only times that would be “acceptable” I’m either sleeping or it’s getting close to go to work. Am I only supposed to drink when I wake up in the afternoon? That doesn’t seem right.

Edit: I don’t drink every morning when I get out of work but when I do and someone sees it…
