I love musicals all around—Sweeney Todd, Chicago, Hamilton, etc., but nothing for me hits quite as hard as that perfect sweet spot this duo found between classic broadway and catchy pop. Their stuff is SO GOOD, and I just find myself humming songs from Little Shop of Horrors or Little Mermaid throughout the day constantly
Is there anything out there like Little Shop or the Disney renaissance? I just love the focus on catchy melodies without at all sacrificing the quality or storytelling. I can’t even find which artists they were both inspired by! Information on that seems to be scarce

Alan Menken is one of THE legendary Disney composers. He's a big part of what made the Disney Renaissance so iconic. But I don't think he's done an original Disney project since Tangled all the way back in 2010. (I think his last original project was Sausage Party and...yeah...) Pretty much all he does nowadays is act as a supervisor for the remakes and other spinoff media like the Tangled TV series.
Disney's next film Wish is going to be commemorating the studio's 100th anniversary, and that would be a perfect opportunity to bring Alan back. Hell, since Richard Sherman of the Sherman Brothers is still active despite being in his nineties, imagine bringing BOTH of those legends in to collaborate on the songs, especially since Sherman and Menken are good friends. (They've made appearances at D23 together, for instance.) But instead Wish is bringing in some new person whose name I don't recognize to do the songs.
Disney, please let Alan do something original again. Don't let such a musical legend get stuck doing remakes for the rest of his life. Let him finally get a chance to shine again like he did in the Renaissance.

He spoke to podcast eleven about Lin bringing rap into the movie and how amazing Halle Bailey will be as Ariel.
“There is some rapping in it and I really can’t take much credit for the rap aspect of it. Yeah, there’s some rapping in it, there’s some very Menken songs, there’s some very Miranda songs. But it’s all the blend of Menken-Miranda. I love him, I love working with him. I’m glad we had the opportunity to do that and he’s also a producer on the movie but Lin juggles a lot of things, as I do, so we will have occasional contact. Right now it’s in the hands of the amazing Rob Marshall and as we speak they are in London right now filming.”
Halle:
“Oh my gosh, she is adorable and so talented. I met Halle at the recording sessions… I did have to be educated in terms of what she and her sister do together, which is incredible. She is an amazing talent, a beautiful girl, and I got to meet her family.”

Tangled is both an amazingly awesome movie and TV Series by Disney. I'm sure there are enough fans out there to agree that it deserves its own unofficial subreddit.
