Aging Great Pyre/Akbash

Greetings all,

I have a 12 year old female Pyre/Akbash mix who is seriously starting to struggle going for walks in the afternoon/evening around the neighborhood. Interestingly if I take her on a field trip so to speak, another neighborhood, she's more willing to explore, but still has had better days getting around.

I take her to swim laps weekly which has been a lifesaver, (if I skip more than one week, she goes downhill in the hindquarters real fast). She she hates the car (but is intermittently willing to deal with it (earlier in the day) when she knows there's fun at the end.

The rest of the time she lays around looking sad and bored. What do you all do for enrichment when their mobility becomes an issue?

She lost her life mate of 10 years (male Great Pyre/Akbash) about a year ago - they had an incredible soul mate kind of relationship - best buds all the way.

I've been thinking another puppy but not sure if she would love it or be jealous of it :)! Just saw a thread on Great Pyr's and cats. Maybe that's the way to go? A kitten?

Thoughts?

My 12-year-old Akbash doing a mediocre gun trick. I still have to guide her with the motion but honestly it’s fine!
