"Christina's World" is a famous painting created by American artist Andrew Wyeth in 1948. The action of the painting takes place in rural Maine, where Wyeth spent most of his time. The painting depicts Christina Olson, Wyeth's summer house neighbour near the Maine town of Cushing, lying in a field of dry grass and reaching for a distant farmhouse on a hill.

Christina Olson suffered from a degenerative muscle disease that limited her mobility, and this physical condition is reflected in the painting. The figure appears to be dragging herself across the field, using her arms to move around. The woman's posture suggests longing, determination and isolation.

The landscape is rendered in muted tones, among which brown and grey shades of grass and the farmhouse predominate. The composition creates a sense of vast emptiness, emphasising the lonely nature of Christine's struggle. The farmhouse on the hill introduces an element of aspiration, hinting at a goal that seems both distant and unattainable.

The painting has been interpreted in a variety of ways, with some critics believing it reflects themes of longing, isolation and the struggle between man and nature. Others interpret Christina's wistful gaze as a symbol of hope and the human ability to overcome adversity.

The painting Christina's World is known for its emotional depth and the way it captures a poignant moment in the human experience. The painting became an iconic work of American realism and is housed at the Museum of Modern Art in New York, where it continues to captivate viewers with its haunting beauty and evocative narrative.
