Amiga 1000 Word Processor.

First of all thanks everyone who helped me find the correct workbench and kickstart disks. Now my 1000 is running! Would anyone have any suggestions on which Amiga word processor would run on a 1000? I see a number of them out there, but I assume the ones with multiple disks wouldn’t work because they require an HD install and the 1000 didn’t have a hard disk…

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks!

Davey Jones

Amiga 1000 Kickstart

Found an old Amiga 1000. It boots up and ask for Kickstart. How do I know which version to use? Also is there a way to know which Workbench to use without having the Kickstart disk? Any help would be appreciated.

Amiga 1000 Ram

When I boot my Amiga 1000 up, it says it has 348752 Free Memory. Is this a stock amount of Ram or has it been upgraded? Whatever the amount is it doesn’t get me very far. I loaded up Textcraft and very quickly ran out of memory. I seem to remember a ram module you could buy that would plug in to the side of the machine. Would that be a good idea? I’d appreciate any thoughts on what my options might be.

Thank you 🙏

This subreddit focuses on the futurist visions of eras past. However posts may also contain contemporary art with a retrofuturist theme. Futurism was born out of humanity's sudden thrust into technological revolution. To the many that witnessed the dramatic, rapid change, it seemed a technological utopia was fast approaching. This unbridled optimism caused the collective imagination to run wild.

Amiga 1000 rebuild

I picked up a non working Amiga 1000. The 1000 is the machine I dreamed about but never owned so it’s a nostalgia piece for me. It’s missing the daphne chip, but most other things are here.

I want to restore it respectfully- that said I’m not averse to putting something like the vampire in where the chipset is recreated and not emulated. The 1000 was limited by the chipset anyways, so I feel like it could be a good step. I’ve also seen the rejuvenator which looks encouraging except for my lack of the daphne.

I’m wondering how others would approach this? My goal is that in another 40 years, an enthusiast could experience both the machine and the care that a passionate community had toward this groundbreaking machine.

Explain it to me like its 1985 after the Amiga 1000, Atari ST release and even Spectrum 128k. Why was 128k chosen for the launch Macintosh?

This was a few years before I was born but after doing alot of research online about ram prices and developement of other 16-bit machines, the 128k ram limit is really, well limiting. I can understand the planned obsolescence factor since this was the era of "upgrade the whole system", but how was this low ram sold to consumers?

I had a second hand Mac Classic back in the early 90s and I vividly remember playing pirated 128k games. They are so extremely basic because of this ram limitation.
