American Girl’s Historical Doll Opinion

I feel that in my opinion, now I will say this before I get into it but I got into ag or mostly heard about it in 2014 (Isabelle’s year) so I have zero idea of the time of pleasant company, but I feel that a lot of it is that Mattel has moved away from the stories aspect for the most part, like they released Nicki, Isabel, Courtney, and Claudie in the recent years but in my opinion Nicki, Isabel, and Courtney are very….bland in my opinion, and with (from what I researched) I find it very disappointing that Courtney, Nicki, and Isabel were all the recent historical releases and they are all Caucasian .

But the fact that there’s only one Latino historical doll, and three African American historical dolls, one Hawaiian historical doll, one indigenous historical doll, and thirteen Caucasian historical dolls.

But my question is where is the Korean, Japanese, Chinese representation for historical dolls? Why isn’t there an Hispanic historical doll? Or a biracial historical doll? Or middle eastern historical doll?

What is something you like about American Girl TODAY?

I hope this isn't an inflammatory post. I see a lot of, completely valid, posts about how the quality has declined, the prices have gone up, the variety isn't there, it's too much pink, etc.

This had me wondering, what is something about American Girl that you enjoy TODAY? Not something that you miss from the past or wish was different.

For example, I really think Evette is gorgeous and my inner child loves the HP sets. I would have desperately wanted those as a kid. Obviously I am an adult now and know the issues surrounding JK but my inner child does adore those sets. I also love the diversity that is happening.

Definitely there are all things surrounding each of these that are less than ideal but I am able to find joy in them.

I hope I'm not stepping on anyone's toes with this, just curious. :)

We need more American Girl dolls and characters with specific disabilities.

Seriously, I have to let this off my chest. I feel we need more dolls with disabilities. McKenna has a reading disorder (at least I think because I've heard rumors about it on Instagram), Gabriela has a stutter, Joss has a hearing disorder, and Kavi has ADHD, and we still don't have an autistic character or a character with Down Syndrome or Tourettes Syndrome or anything else.

I don't know about you guys, but I have been waiting for an autistic American Girl doll ever since I first got myself into the franchise. What do you guys think of that?

If you were an American Girl doll, what would your “big set” be?

If you were an American Girl doll, what would your “big set” be?

Corinne has her bedroom, Kaya has her teepee, Lila has her stable, Maryellen has her diner…if you were an American Girl, what would the big ticket item in your collection be?

Mine would be a small zoo. Aside from Disney parks, zoos are my favorite places in the whole world. The set would have a couple small enclosures (otters and giraffes are my favorite), maybe a little information stand or gift shop, a zookeeper uniform, and of course the plush animals. If AG ever releases a zoo set, my wallet will be drained.

I’d like to see less limited edition collaboration dolls, better quality, and a basics mix and match collection because kids don’t exclusively wear neon, funky patterns or both at the same time. My doll basic clothing pieces were homemade, pleasant company or off brand ones I acquired.

Celebrities with American girl dolls

My post about American girl in media did well, thank you so much for your input!! Someone commented saying some celebrities who love American girl dolls so I decided to start a thread.

What counts as a “celebrity”? Anyone who has been on a television show (including Netflix and other streaming services). I will not be including social media influencers such as family vloggers who have children with American girl dolls. If you are unsure of if the person is an influencer or not that’s okay you can go ahead and comment.

Yes, they still count if they are considered an influencer now but maybe were a celebrity back in the day

You can also include celebrities that went to opening nights for movies or whatever.

For example, Olivia Rodrigo, who was known for playing Grace Thomas in the American girl movie and is known for her role on Disney channel’s bizzardvark has a Maritza American girl doll
