Almond milk

I have to temporarily cut dairy out of my diet. But I am a big fan of milk. For me, there's nothing better than a nice cold glass of milk with desert.

So I bought a carton of almond milk. I knew it wouldn't be exactly the same but I figured it would fill the gap temporarily.

You guys. It's so bad. It's like flavoured water if the flavour was sadness.

Chidi went to hell for this?!? Not worth it at all. Also no weird tongue film as promised.

I feel very let down.

Edit to add: Thank you to everyone commiserating and providing suggestions in the comments. You've all earned some good place points for sure for trying to help this stranger.

Unfortunately this temporary dietary restriction is to test whether my baby has a cows milk and soy allergy so soy milk and lactose free aren't options. Luckily it's only for a couple of weeks. (But also why is soy in EVERYTHING?!)

It seems the general consensus is oat milk so if I ever finish this carton of almond tears I will try that next.

Oat milk is better than almond milk

In dietary terms it denotes the practice of dispensing with all products derived wholly or partly from animals.

Oat milk is better than almond milk

Even cashew milk is better than almond milk. Almond milk is the inferior plant milk.

Fight me.

Edit: I don't not like almond milk, I just think oat is better

Edit 2: Jesus Christ, you all. 2k+ upvotes, 400+ comments, and 4 rewards? I made this post on a whim because I ran out of oat milk and didn't have any for my coffee this morning.

almond milk is an absolute waste of so many resources, its a joke

the amount of water alone it takes to grow almonds is pretty asinine. There are other food products that are wasteful but almond milk for me is on top of the list

EDIT: jeez this took off, people are passionate about their milk/nut juice sources. i definitely shouldn't have made a post before i went to bed and not check on it, or maybe i should have disabled inbox replies

another edit: lol people spamming by inbox for being paid by the milk industry to post this need to get a life, no i didnt get paid by anyone to post. pretty close to deleting this post to get rid of all the dumb accusations i'm getting

So I discovered Almond milk

...and I'm converting! It lasts for 3 months (it lasts for a bit longer than cow's milk, sorry I didn't read the carton that closely) and if you are an infrequent milk drinker like me, that's way cheaper than keeping fresh milk in your fridge all the time. It really just tastes like fat free milk honestly.

I pretty much only use milk in cereal and cooking, so we end up throwing out milk because it went bad too quickly. Almond milk is a fine substitute 99% of the time and lasts long enough for us to use it all. I don't know why I never thought of it before!

This is just a small epiphany I had but I was really excited and wanted to share!

Its almond juice, not almond milk

Websters dictionary defines milk as fluid secreted by female mammals to nourish their young. When you squeeze a plant you get juice. Stop calling it almond/soy/oat/hemp/cashew/rice milk when its really juice. Whats next? selling bottled water as “earth milk”? Or selling 10w40 as “fossil milk”.

Edit: websters does also define milk as “a liquid resembling milk”

Who actually drinks almond milk?

I've seen consistent praise for oat and soy milk, as well as more niche plant milks like rice milk and cashew milk, on vegan subreddits. However, I've seen few people express anything other than (well-deserved) disdain for almond milk. Nonetheless, it somehow remains one of the most popular and widely available plant milks. Why is this? Is it somehow popular among carnists, but not vegans? Am I misjudging its popularity with vegans?
