Albert Wilson

It’s easy to discount players like Albert Wilson due to their volatile boom or bust playstyle and often times it’s for good reason. I wish I had a stat on how many of these players actually pan out, even if just for a stint. Typically the odds aren’t in your favor for the new waiver wire add to see continued success but this year has been strangely different. The success of so many other receives this year mixed with a combination of team and involvement has made the fantasy community more numb than usual to Albert’s success thus far.

Albert had quite a bit off season buzz due to Landy leaving Miami with no true WR1 to take his place. Miami showcased their confidence in Wilson’s playmaking ability with a solid 3 year contract however they also brought in the injury prone veteran, Amendola. Expectations were tempered before drafts when a quote broke about Amendola “Being the guy and catching 100 balls this year”. On paper it looked like Amendola’s involvement would warrant all other WRs useless.. other than possibly Parker who, somehow, still had a few truthers remaining.

Just like that, Wilson was forgot about. His last game as a chief where he had 10 Receptions on 11 targets no longer mattered. No one cares about the 147 yards he posted in that game. People didn’t care he ranked #6 for YAC+ over the likes of Golden Tate and Julio Jones, all while playing second fiddle to Tyreek Hill in an Alex Smith led offense.

No one really cares that currently Wilson is leading wide receivers in YAC after 6 games. In fantasy football we often times just look at catches and touchdowns. We discount YAC because there’s no type of immediate bonus for this statistic. Looking at Wilson’s company you immediately see Brown, Kupp, Thielen, Tate, JuJu.. these are’t gimmicky receivers but true playmakers that can turn any play into a TD. These are the type of players that can turn a 5 yard pass from a QB like Brock Osweiler into a long play.

Albert Wilson deserves a second, third, or fourth look before kickoff this week. If he has a remotely successful day against Detroit, he will certainly fly off Waivers at a faster pace next week.

This is entirely possible with his increased snap count and target share. We’ve seen teams struggle in Miami's hot and humid setting before. This time we’ll see the Lions coming from the 40’s into the high 80’s with 70% humidity.

If Albert Wilson crashes down to earth with a poor performance it will be easy to continue to discount this playmaker..

but what if he has another respectable outing?

Why you should pick up Wilson (I dropped Chase Edmonds for him this morning):

• Ryan Fitzpatrick loves his slot guy ();

• The Dolphins' defense is weak, particularly their Rush D (2nd most yards conceded in 2018) and yes they drafted a DT but tank mode seems engaged;

• Preston is a rookie and rookie WRs take time;

• Parker is an unknown; and

• A lack of weapons on offense.

Edit update: the Miami front office seems to be engaging in a tank. Incoming garbage points.

Not heard much out there about how well Albert Wilson played Thursday night.

I Personally liked this player, especially with one the greatest moments as a dolfan when he and Grant high fived on the way to the end zone, etched in to my memories.

With him missing so much time due to covid etc. I'm hoping now the rust has come off, he explodes this next 7 weeks.

The beat reporters in Miami are RAVING about Wilson. Omar Kelley for example has said he’s never had a player he’s covered he the top performer in a practice this often. He’s performing better than any of the other receivers and him and tua seem to have a huge connection.

I’m not saying draft him round 10 or anything or honesty you could leave him undrafted, but at the very least keep your eye on him he might sneakily become a solid flex/wr2 for free if his performances hold true in the regular season.

No hatred, he did what is best for him and his family. Doesn’t mean we can’t wish he was around right now.

So the dolphins play infinitely better at home and Albert Wilson is coming off an incredible week with Osweiler throwing it to him.

Can we expect similar production with a depleted Dolphins WR core? The talent is clearly there with wilson, guy passes the eye test and ran a 4.4 40.

Any dolphins fans want to weight in on this guy?

Wilson was electric vs. the Ravens. Wow! So much energy and an elusive runner. Really enjoyed watching him play.
