I love Al Micheals, for many of us he is THE voice of football. But gosh his brand of commentary now actively makes some of the most exciting moments in football boring.
Every call is made in the same bored, monotone delivery, independent of the situation.
We all remember the Jags comeback in the playoffs last year, we watched one of the most entertaining, intense playoff comebacks ever and when the winning kick was made there was nothing.
Again tonight Oluokun made a pick 6 return and Al was like, “Yep, touchdown, cool”. Kirk makes a great play for the game winning touchdown and he sounded completely uninterested.
I’ve noticed it every week with the Thursday night game.
I love Al Michaels, but he just doesn’t seem interested or energised for football any more.
Edit: With the discussion underneath, I’m pretty happy to agree that Al is still the goat, but maybe he needs a colour commentator with a bit more zing to balance out his more low energy moments. Herb is great but it’s two low energy guys in the same booth.
