Gibbs with the bantz: He looks more like a football than a football coach.

Thank you for the warning.

lol i would lose it if they did one of those celebrations in a game

Not sure about the Frying Pan but The Lawnmower would be pretty great to see.

[–]DannyWelblackTomiyasu 9 points10 points  (5 children)

The bomb would actually be pretty good

i hope so.

We have been playing pretty well since, just saying!

[–]CorsarioNero 15 points16 points  (0 children)

That Reggie Watts song needs to be sung at the Emirates

[–]Kalis73 35 points36 points  (7 children)

In the past few years we've sent Piers Morgan and James Corden to America.

How have they not declared war on us?

[–]millig 31 points32 points  (5 children)

Maybe because they also got John Oliver?!

[–]Kalis73 30 points31 points  (2 children)

Or as he is more commonly known in Britain...'John Who?'

[–]Jokeslayer123 17 points18 points  (0 children)

That guy who was on Mock The Week that one time ten years ago. You remember that guy.

[–]OswinOswald4 1 point2 points  (0 children)

no worries, we are quite smitten with John Who

[–]W00DERS0N 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Hey now, Corden is pretty funny. A lot of late night show skits fall flat, you gotta do like 5-10 new ones each week.

If Schwimmer was one of the guests on that episode, then it gives it a little extra bump, and adds in some jokes for the interview portion.

Piers Morgan is shit.

[–]Amanda_Hugginkiss_ 10 points11 points  (1 child)

I actually enjoyed Jason Sudeikis taking over the Tottenham Hotspurs

[–]bharatgoonerArsene Wenger's philosophy put into practice 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This was actually much more funny, I would have liked if they did something similar for us.

[–]indianmafia 9 points10 points  (2 children)

Anyone else find this really unfunny?

[–]CANTBELIEVEUDONETHIS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's since he's been taken to the US and obviously been given a script with such little room to manoeuvre.

Check out his video of Smithy and the England Team, its actually hilarious. Sad to see him making such shit content, but he must be making serious P.

[–]delunatic5Ya Ya Ya I am gooner ya ya ya 41 points42 points  (42 children)

I'm not too familiar with Corden but it seems like he's blown up this past year. Of the few clips I've seen he's not really that funny, most of his stuff falls flat. Can anyone explain the appeal?

[–]jobbbbbba 22 points23 points  (6 children)

His talk show stuff isn't that great, possibly because it is geared towards Americans and relies on his accent and flamboyancy to make it funny. In a League of Their Own, he acts very differently to his camp, clueless persona that he uses in the US. Before moving to the US he was one of the lads, basically your cheeky fat mate down the pub. He co-wrote (and was one of the main characters in) a TV show called Gavin and Stacey, which is amazing and probably the best example of why he was famous in the UK for such a long time.

However, I think he struggled with his UK personality in the US for a long time so had to keep on trying until something stuck. Even his Adele Carpool Karaoke is much better because he is just one of those cheeky but normal guys (it might be because she is English so he relaxes more or can relate to her more?). But I guess the "I take myself very seriously but I'm an idiot" got better ratings in America.

I think if this sketch was for British TV it would be much more like what if your mate who phones up talk sport took over a training session, rather than what if your drama teacher took over?

Basically watch Gavin and Stacey and you'll realise he is actually very capable of writing really good comedy.

[–]theederv 11 points12 points  (1 child)

I think if this sketch was for British TV it would be much more like what if your mate who phones up talk sport took over a training session, rather than what if your drama teacher took over?

Exactly this, he did this sketch for Red Nose day with the England squad which is mildly better

[–]jobbbbbba 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love this video! I think just grounding the jokes with context is what makes the biggest difference. This Arsenal sketch could be with the Chelsea, United or City players and it would be exactly the same.

Also for anyone that doesn't get his speech at the end, it's from the England footie anthem World in Motion: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lAnccZDLUVA

[–]DannyWelblackTomiyasu 5 points6 points  (3 children)

He wrote and acted in 'The Wrong Mans' which is pretty good, you should watch it if you liked Gavin and Stacy

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points  (2 children)

Thought I was the only one who liked that show, never seen anyone else mention it

[–]DannyWelblackTomiyasu 1 point2 points  (1 child)

yeah I've never heard anyone talk about it or anything, don't know why since it's on BBC

[–]riskoooo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And Netflix!

[–]Britton120Saka 41 points42 points  (25 children)

Americans associate his british accent as being witty. So even the most boring of jokes become elevated just because of that.

On top of it he attracts rather famous people to his show and seems to focus more on candidness, which is something that people like in general. Speaking specifically about his karaoke car routines. But this also fits.

I dont think hes all that great but i do like some of the videos. Hes preferable to other late night hosts (not all).

[–]RonaldosTears 22 points23 points  (24 children)

He seems a bit like Fallon to me, just an easygoing kind of crowd pleaser, whereas guys like Ferguson, Conan and Letterman had their really specific styles.

[–][deleted] 11 points12 points  (12 children)

+1 for ferguson, i honestly think he was/is the best out of the current pool of hosts. No idea why cbs stopped it.

[–]Gotenk 6 points7 points  (5 children)

Fun Fact: Craig was actually an Arsenal fan. In an interview with this actress who used to live in Islington, he says that he used to visit every weekend for Arsenal games when he used to live in London as well.

    [–]Gotenk 3 points4 points  (2 children)

https://youtu.be/qGrYGaTMqAo The interview is with Danielle Ruah. The Islington and Arsenal mention are around the 8.15 mark where they're discussing London. But the entire interview is quite watchable.

    [–]MarsJon_WillHenry, long way out...OH! It's flashed in. 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Most, if not all of his interviews are watchable. But this video has him talking to a very attractive woman, and he mentions Arsenal, so I get it. :p.

    [–][deleted] 2 points3 points  (2 children)

CBS didn't axe him, he quit.

    [–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (1 child)

    Do you know why?

    [–]HidingFromMyWife1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

And now he hosts celebrity name game which might be the worst daytime tv show on the air. holy shit he and it are awful.

    [–]W00DERS0N 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Didn't, Craig leave on his own? I though he was excellent as well, he could drop the act and deliver serious info and whatnot in a very intelligent manner.

    [–]W00DERS0N 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Didn't, Craig leave on his own? I though he was excellent as well, he could drop the act and deliver serious info and whatnot in a very intelligent manner.

    [–][deleted] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yeah. Corden is a counter balance to Colbert and Meyers is a counter balance to Fallon.

    [–][deleted] 9 points10 points  (7 children)

Conan is hands down the best. Watch his remotes on Youtube.

[–]DenzelOntarioMaple Syrup Connoisseur 13 points14 points  (5 children)

Conan' interviews are meh, and his monologues don't stand out either. But his segments when he goes off set and visits places or go around his office are legendary.

Fallon has the best games and bits and skits. Also guest interaction. Interviews are very hit and miss (usually miss. But when it hits, it hits really big)

Kimmel has the best interviews imo (I miss Ferguson though). They seem relatively genuine, and asks good questions. Doesn't excessively interrupt guests, but also doesn't let it bore.

Seth Meyers interviews are also great (asks very unique questions), but the rest of the show is lacking.

Colbert has had his moments, but so far has been lackluster. Still seems to be getting his feet wet. His best segments are the ones he's most candid and real.

Corden reminds me a lot of Jimmy Fallon when he was on Late Night. Very free, untethered, flowing, and fun. He can't really carry an interview very well though, he relies on the guest. So he's also hit and miss there.

I think that's all of them.

    [–][deleted] 3 points4 points  (2 children)

Good analysis. I used to watch Fallon a lot, but then I just found him too fake. Conan's self deprecating type humour just works, which you see less of in the interviews - I often skip those on Youtube, not really interested in celebrities as such. He contributed to some of the early Simpsons, which I think is fairly common knowledge for those that know him.

Would recommend the subreddit /r/conantravels. You will find some good old skits. This is a good one.

[–]DenzelOntarioMaple Syrup Connoisseur 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah the Fallon from Late Night is slightly different from Tonight Show Fallon. He seems more restricted now. To me, he doesn't come off as fake, but he does pander to the audience quite a bit. Obviously, the Tonight Show gets the biggest ratings, so he seems to follow the same game plan every week.

Conan likes to keep things fresh from time to time, which I really like. The man has been doing Late Night for soooo many years, yet continues to come up with fun new segments every so often.

But I think Fallon is ideal for this generation, the social media age. He always keeps things relevant. Like his parodies of popular shows (like the Stranger Things one recently). Or talking about trending topics. He's someone who keeps up with trends and makes whole bits around them. So it's not surprising that he's the most popular. Corden does the same type of thing, and he's gaining in popularity for the same reason.

    [–][deleted] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

    Shout Out to JORDAN SCHLANSKY.

    [–]thecescshow 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My favorite part of Conan is when he includes his staff into his segments.

    [–]W00DERS0N 0 points1 point  (0 children)

    Fallon is terrible, though.

Source: Am American, haven't him funny ever, really, and my fiancée thinks he's the funniest guy ever.

Conan is my favourite. Would love to see him with the lads at Arsenal.

    [–][deleted] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Try watching Gavin and Stacey, he's brilliant in that. His talkshow stuff is okay but it's not amazing

    [–]thecescshow 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think he's mostly famous because of those carpool karaoke vids. Each of them have tons of millions of views.

    [–]ShockRampage 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I quite like him, League of Their Own is hilarious.

    [–]Absulute 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The guy is a complete fucknugget.

    [–]Chewilewi 3 points4 points  (0 children)

He is English, bland and inoffensive. So he is now huge is the US

    [–]TomNJSmith Rowe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

American here. I don't get it either. This guy got popular largely based on his "carpool karaoke" videos, which are also dumb. I wanted this segment to be cool but it's pretty lame.

    [–]Dennyboy101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I cant stand him, he isn't funny and his laugh is atrocious

[–]bharatgoonerArsene Wenger's philosophy put into practice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He was good in A League of Their Own, can't say much about the rest of his stuff.

TIL people hate James Corden. Shame as he's a nice guy.

TIL people have some serious hate for James Corden, genuinely thought most people liked the guy

    [–]thecescshow 3 points4 points  (0 children)

people on reddit mostly. His carpool karaoke is super popular so there's a lot of people that do like him.

    [–]tominsj 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't hate him, I just don't find him that funny. And since that's his job, it makes me disappointed in him.

I saw him in the Camden High st. McDonald's once. Was a bit gutted to see he only went to get some change. Really wanted to see him order a pile of cheeseburgers. Also, this was about as funny as a kick in the bollocks.

James Corden is the second most annoying unfunny cunt on the planet, after Russell Howard.

Couldn't even finish the video. James Corden is a talentless twat.

Mate, this is fucking shocking. The celebrations were hilarious though.
