Posts about Martin Keown
Hi all,
If, like me, you were following the game on BT Sport, you might have caught their after match discussion. For a large segment of it, Martin tore into Mesutโs performance. Hereโs a link to the relevant section.
I feel like most fans yesterday were hurt, dissapointed or left empty by the result. For that reason, I can understand why Keown, as a former player and someone who is passionate about the club, would have been so furious.
Defending Mesutโs performances has become a theme for most games, and Iโm not here to do that. I donโt have a problem with Keown, or anyone else, who believes Ozil isnโt trying hard enough, or working hard enough, etc. That is not what I want to discuss.
However, I felt he overstepped the mark in particular with this statement:
โHe will have some emotional breakdown and wonโt play this weekend... I do not know how many illnesses he has had. He was not fit to wear the shirt tonightโ
I thought that was a very personal, spiteful remark (and accusation) to make and there should be no place for it. I was very dissapointed that it came from a former player, no less. I donโt care who you play for - Arsenal, Tottenham, Chelsea, whoever: I think personal attacks of that nature are totally inappropriate and I wouldnโt want any player to suffer them from a pundit.
Did anyone else feel similarly?
