Hey guys I need your help with the Man United and Celtic Legends charity match for the late Liam Miller.

Long paragraphs ahead. You can skip to tldr at the bottom if you don’t want to read.

There’s a charity match going ahead in Ireland on the 25th of September, for the late Liam Miller who played for Man United, Celtic and the Republic of Ireland. Man Utd legends such as Scholes, Giggs, Ferdinand, Keane etc will be there and playing against Celtic/Irish legends. The problem is this will be taking place in a stadium of capacity 7000.

The organisers applied for the use of a local stadium owned by the GAA. Recently the GAA a sporting organisation in Ireland, that Liam Miller was apart of himself, were given millions of tax payers money to renovate this stadium. The new capacity of that stadium is 45,000. The use of this stadium would bring the proceeds from the match from the thousands to the millions. However the GAA who own the stadium, have refused to allow football which they call “a foreign sport” to be played there and consequently the rejected the organisers of the charity match’s request. Now the issue is that the whole reason the government gave the millions of tax payers money to renovate the stadium, in the first place was in an attempt to host the Rugby World Cup. Rugby is also a “foreign sport” yet the GAA had no issues accepting money for the renovation. They also regularly allow other Football matches along with American football and Rugby matches (all foreign sports to be played there),when it is financially beneficial to them.

The GAA have claimed it’s in violation of their Rule 42. Which prohibits “foreign sports” from being played on GAA grounds without authorisation from their Congress, which is held annually (usually in February). The thing is they’ve regularly disregarded this rule. For example a large quantity of GAA clubs regularly rent they pitches to other sporting organisations without permission. There was also an incident in 2014 when they relocated a GAA semi final to facilitate an NFL game being played in their primary stadium.

Despite football being a primary sport in Ireland this old fashioned organisation has prevented a charity match being played in honour of a local football player who recently passed away. They are the only people standing in the way of making millions for charity. However Instead Roy Keane, Paul Scholes and a variety of other Man Utd legends will be playing a football match in a 7000 seater stadium and raise a minuscule amount of money in comparison to what they could have. If you’d like to change this could you please sign the following petition. https://www.change.org/p/gaa-lets-get-the-liam-miller-match-to-p%C3%A1irc-u%C3%AD-chaoimh

Edit: I’ve got nothing against your everyday GAA fan. I do however have a huge issue with the upper levels of management within the organisation who I believe to be out of touch, old-fashioned.

tl:dr Backward organisation is trying to restrict a Man United legends game, for charity for the late Liam Miller. There doing so by preventing the legends playing in a 45,000 seater stadium. Consequently the legends will have to play in a 7000 seat stadium and consequently raise a lot less for charity. Where Are They Now? - #3 - Liam Miller

Hey guys, I’m back. Some people might have to rack their brains really hard to remember this, but roughly seven months ago I did two self-posts regarding former United footballers who didn’t exactly do as hoped. The two I did were Manucho and Rodrigo Possebon (both posts are linked to their respective players) I don’t know why I stopped to be honest, but I’m back with another one.

Today, I’ll be talking about the Irishman Liam Miller, who joined us from Celtic in Summer 2004 for a fee of nothing. His first goal for the club came at Crewe Alexandria in the League Cup. Now usually I would link this goal, but it does appear that it has disappeared off the internet entirely. Miller's only other goal for United also came in the League Cup in October 2005 against Barnet, in a match where Gerard Pique (Yes, THE Gerard Pique) had a bit of a Slippy G moment.

With first team chances hard to come by, Miller left on loan to Leeds, with his only goal coming in Leeds 4 goal comeback at Southampton before joining Sunderland on a free transfer, having only played nine league games across two seasons.

At Sunderland, he scored his first goal for Sunderland against former club Leeds (potato quality video). His first BPL goal came against Middlesborough. He was transfer listed by Sunderland manager Roy Keane due to ill discipline and bad punctuality (he had a habit of turning up late for training).

He joined QPR for six months only to be released at the end of the season, before moving to Hibernian. He won Scottish Premiership POTM for October 2009. He left the club in Summer 2011 after he couldn’t agree a deal with Hibs manager Colin Calderwood.

The Cork man then joined the A-League, first going to Perth Glory where he scored this goal against Adelaide United. After rejecting an offer to stay at Perth, Miller joined Brisbane Roar making a big impact, scoring against Melbourne Victory and West Sydney, while also assisting comically at his former club Perth Glory. He then spent a short time at Melbourne City before recently returning to his home land of Ireland, specifically Cork City.

And that marks the end of this edition. I don’t know yet what will be my next choice (should this continue) but I have a list of players ranging from Frederico Macheda to Djemba Djemba. I may have your player on the list already, but if you want to make any more requests then please put them in.
