I think it’s over for me and artitzia :// huge fan of them since i was a teenager but I feel with recent years and their expansion to the states it’s gone downhill. Clothes are so expensive for crap quality, my friends and I have spoken about how our stuff will tear easily or barely last long. Service has gone downhill too, whenever I visit their Vancouver locations the girls ignore my existence unless I go out my way to find them even when I clearly look confused and need help. And the items they’ve been releasing lately aren’t to die for, I can find the same basics elsewhere without feeling ignored in stores, anyways will be shopping at Simons instead (@my canadian girlies they have nice stuff even like motel rocks!)

Are we surprised?
“Chief executive Jennifer Wong says the quarter was hampered by the company missing opportunities in its product assortment and a more difficult consumer environment.”
Or maybe the diminishing quality of their clothing?
I will still shop at Aritzia but there are fewer items that seem worth it to me upon closer inspection of the stitching and materials.

Well... now that the Archive Sale flopped for most I think this is a big sign that it's not going to get any better for the company unless serious and significant changes happen internally.
A few thoughts/rant:
-
I don't foresee much changing unless they change their in-store shopping strategy. They use a system that literally punishes their staff when customers want to make returns or simply don't wanna buy anything. The in-store shopping experience continues to feel like a burden to most. For a company that brands themselves as "everyday luxury", they built a system that makes shopping there feel extremely dreadful and anxiety-inducing. There's nothing luxurious about that. Maybe the CE/CX team should go visit Japan and learn about the hospitality and customer service there. Implement that in your own business and I guarantee you most people will start converting when they shop in stores because they'd actually want to.
-
The way they show appreciation towards their clients/top clients is embarrassing. First of all, why is there no reward system? I get it, reward systems can seem a bit tacky sometimes but there should be something. It is nice being a higher-tier client and getting early clientele access but why do they also keep us in the dark with what our statuses are? I wish there'd be more transparency with that part as well. I've seen some high spenders show their "gifts" from Aritzia in Tiktok and they get sent an ugly tassel keychain that was from 2008 lol.
-
It's no surprise the quality of Aritzia has gone down significantly along with higher prices. Aritzia, SLOW down your production process and focus on creating high-quality goods with NEW styles. They're trying to mass produce the same exact same styles in 4384991 different colours, fabrics and lengths and to call these items all "new" It's actually so boring to shop there nowadays because everything is just another variation of an item they already have. I also believe they decided to expand a bit too fast which probably affected this as well.
-
I was un/fortunate enough to have interviewed with Aritzia HQ a few years back. One thing that the Hiring Manager told me during the interview word for word was, "we only hire the best of the best" that stuck by me till this day because that's quite a snobby thing to say to candidates. Nobody is perfect and why are you making it seem like you only hire individuals with 0 flaws/weaknesses? No wonder the company culture also sucks. I am sure they're continuing to lay individuals off but keeping it hush hush. In my opinion, they NEED to restructure new teams or at least cut some of their upper management and start new. I am looking at you corporate marketing and retail managers. Also, it seems like almost everyone who works at Aritzia thinks they're better than everyone else because they work there.
This company continues to disappoint everyone. Can't wait for the Black Friday sale when everything is "UP TO 10% OFF!" and those lovely $5 off discounts. Don't forget items being withdrawn from the site because they don't want you to save that $2 off their $400 wool coats.

I am so tired of this. Why the actual fuck is a $150 pair of pants completely see-through??? Who is buying this shit?
Up until this year I used to be an Aritzia loyalist, but god damn every release just gets worse and worse. I’m not even a huge stickler for quality, but this is insanity

2018-2019 Aritzia clothes are just so well made and so comf/flattering. I’m still obsessed with my bodysuits and long sleeves/swearets. They still feel almost as good as when I got them. It’s crazy how much they have sacrificed quality and clean cuts, their whole differentiator, for fast fashion trash

I have loved Aritzia for years. It used to be my go to for stylish clothes and especially base layers. In the past few years I've been disappointed with the quality of their new pieces, in addition to the increased prices. I find it hard to justify buying anything but real basics here while paying extra close attention to the material cards.
So what do you think? Is Aritzia falling off for you?

I have a few of their bike shorts and tanks but the shopping experience is terrible! There is a store location in my town and I hate shopping there.
It's so bizarre there are no mirrors in the dressing rooms so you need to walk out and use the giant shared mirror! What if you came in wearing a dress but were trying on pants or skirts?! Why do they do this? It's not even a decent mirror so you can't get a good look if the item actually fits you well. Do they have this set up so you feel rushed to think the item is "okay" and buy it? Ugh. That actually happened to me where I thought it looked okay in the store but at home it was awful so I had to exchange it. And I'm still carrying COVID weight! I don't want to parade around in tight clothing that might not fit around strangers!
And what's with salespeople giving you extra items to try on?? Stop pushing people to purchase more! Today was actually the first time they didn't suggest anything extra for me, because it was so busy. They tried to do that to the woman in front of me in the line for the dressing room, but she came out of the dressing room at the exact same time they were bringing her "suggested" items. LOL. Then to the two women behind me, they asked if they could take the clothes they were holding so the women "wouldn't have to hold them while standing in line", and both women said "no, it's not heavy to hold". LOL. The salespeople were going to hold the items to try and pick out suggested clothing to try on.
I bought another pair of bike shorts today but I think it's going to be my last purchase. I'm 34 for reference so I'm probably not their target lol
Edit: Wow this blew up more than I expected! 😂 Thanks everyone for sharing!

I know Aritzia has had its faults these last few years and has left a lot to be desired for many folks. But I did want to discuss some more positive thoughts about Aritzia.
Lately I’m seeing a lot of influencers tag clothing brands that are rather expensive and on the higher end! I’m thinking Madewell, Sezane, and a few other small designers, that are all polyester blends! I saw an add for “Wool” trousers that were actually only 60% wool and cost $260. Another brand was selling a $300 USD blouse that was 100% polyester!
It just made me appreciate the fact that Aritzia is really one of the only brands that is still offering 100% natural fibres. Regardless of the “quality” of those fabrics, I still prefer their cotton, wool, silk and cashmere over some other brands $300 polyester nonsense.
And honestly, I think their prices are pretty reasonable compared to other brands who are selling plastic for hundreds of dollars!
Overall, I feel quite content shopping at Aritzia and I think I will be for the time being. I’ve always been pleased with my purchases and concierge has always gone above and beyond for me if I did ever have issues. I guess I just wanted to express some love for Aritzia! Their clothes make me feel so stylish and put together and have held up well for me over the years.

What a joke. What happened to the good sales 5/6 years ago? $5 off leggings & $12 off a $170 cardigan? Lol. Does anyone remember the days where you saved $80+ on items you actually want?! On a $414 cart I save $67.. with tax added I only save a whopping $25.36 😐

Trying to reignite some discussion on ATZ. When I moved countries to live in Toronto in 2020, I literally saw every other girl wear clothing with the TNA logo and last year I gifted a Super Puff jacket to my wife as well. Their stores seem to always be busy, so it seemed worth a deep dive for me. My thesis is that ATZ is where Lululemon was around 2014-2016, however it does trade pretty close to fair market value.
They hosted an investor day presentation in October 2022 which was long and detailed. They laid out their vision for FY2027 (next 4 years) in terms of store openings, revenue, EBITDA margins and capex. Hence, I tried running a DCF valuation for ATZ.
Current Price: CAD$ 47.32 Figures are in CAD
Revenue
• Revenue has grown from $743 million in FY2018 to $1,831 million for the 12 months ended August 2022. It is roughly the same size which Lululemon was in FY2015. Management guidance is $3,500 million to $3,800 million in revenue by FY2027 with a CAGR of 15-17%. Two things need to happen for this 1) increase in store count driving the retail revenue and 2) more than doubling of ecommerce revenue. • Store count has grown from 85 in 2018 to 113 as of August 2022. Stores are located in Canada and USA. Growth is entirely coming from the USA. Canadian market for Aritzia seems saturated. Their Canadian stores has remained around 67 for the last 4 years. Management expects only modest growth from Canada. May be some expansions of current stores but nothing more. Management expects to launch 8-10 new US stores each year reaching close to 150 stores by FY2027. Historically they have only opened 5-6 stores per year so this is aggressive but 8-10 stores isn't too big a stretch. The average revenue per store is CAD $8 million. Net investment per store is $3 million store. The pay back period is 12-18 months per store. These seem to be good store level economics. Further they also see an uptick in ecommerce revenue whenever they launch a store in a new city. • Ecommerce sales have grown to $624 million for the TTM August 2022. The pandemic seems to have super charged this division. Management expects ecommerce revenue to reach $1,600 million by FY2027. • If overall revenue needs to reach $3,500 million by FY2027, and $1,600 million comes from ecommerce, $1,900 million would need to come from retail stores. This means the revenue per store would need to be (1,900 / 150) = 12 million. Up 50% from the current levels of $8 million over the next 4 years, i.e., ~8% increase each year. They are likely taking into account price increase and product mix changes here. • Overall the guidance seems mildly aggressive but given that ATZ outperformed their previous guidance post its IPO, it does not seem unreasonable. Note that ATZ has not at all explored the possibility of opening stores in Europe, China, Australia which are all big markets for Lululemon. Emerging markets all have increasing affluent populations which are attracted towards North American brands. Management is very focused on first becoming big in the USA and then expanding internationally. Any growth from international markets beyond FY2027 is definitely a big plus. • Note that their entire MOAT is their brand popularity with millennials and rich Gen Zs. Their brand is mainly fueled through social media mentions by their customers. TikTok has been a big engine for them. Still, not my favorite MOAT.
EBITDA
• Historical average EBITDA margins have been close to 16%. (I take stock compensation as an expense.) In FY2022, they benefited from Covid relief etc. • Management expects 19% margins in FY2027. Does not seem overly aggressive. Lululemon, which is considered a competitor, has 25% EBITDA margins. • Don't think they will benefit from economies of scale for SG&A expenses in the next 4-5 years as historically SG&A has been steady ~20% of revenue. While, they have doubled revenue in the last 4 years, they have also doubled their support staff from 659 in FY2019 to 1,487 in FY2022. • Note that they do not use traditional media for brand marketing. They mainly rely on social media mentions and influencer marketing. This might be a cheaper form of marketing.
Capital Expenditure
• They are investing a new distribution facility in Vaughan which will open by FY2024 and another one is in the works in Western Canada. • Management expects to spend $500 million in capex over the next 4 years - majorly on store openings. It seems around $300 million should be store openings. If they open 40 stores, that will likely cost 40 stores * 3 million per store = $120 million. So the $180 million likely goes to current store size expansion and refurbishment / maintenance.
Working Capital
• Historically net working capital has been low. But inventory level have ballooned as of August 2022. Management is trying to pre-order a lot of stuff to get ahead of any supply chain issues. The inventory levels should become lower in the next 2-3 years as global supply chain issues resolve.
DCF Value
At a 8% discount rate, and 3% terminal growth rate my DCF gives a value of $48.7 per share. This means that the stock is trading ($47 per share) at fair market value and their isn't much margin of safety in case I'm wrong.
July 2022 would have been an ideal time to invest - but doesn't matter in the long term I guess.
Disclosure: I hold a very small position in ATZ and this post is only for educational purposes. Please do your own research before investing.

God awful prints, sheer af clothing that isn’t suppose to sheer (white effortless pants..) at abysmal prices. $200 for a fucking polyester dress????
Im literally so disappointed as an OG Aritiza fan (grew up in the 00’s in Vancouver). I used to be able to justify the prices due to quality and style but now I’m just gna shop at the Gap and Banana Republic lmao. At least their sales are better and 10% doesn’t equate to final sale or store credit 🙄.

I was in the Sherway Gardens Aritzia and honestly I have come to the conclusion that they train employees to treat you with no respect when you come in to return stuff… I bought 5 super puff jackets and 2 pairs of leather gloves. I come back to return 2 jackets and 1 pair of gloves and the person doing the return really wanted me to feel unwelcomed. From, first asking are you JUST doing a return, questioning if the jackets were on the receipt ( it was clear it was on the first receipt I had to point it out) flipping through the receipts like they were garbage to be thrown out. Telling me the gloves were bought past the return period when I said I bought 2 pairs and I’m returning the second pair that I bought a week ago. To just their (not sure how to address the person)attitude towards me was just short of aggressive. Not even one smile or anything, not that I care but right when I’m done leaving they looks to the next customer with this fake smile and greets the lady with the whole happy small talk, as she is buying something. So I said “I guess you need to buy something to be treated nicely here”. Honest question is this trained or what?

I've always avoided this store because it seemed way over priced for a store in a regular mall selling regular clothes just like all the other regular clothes in the mall. But it's Christmas season and my stepdaughter had a few items on her list from Aritzia so I ordered them. I ordered 3 items, all of which were shipped separately so they were charged separately on my credit card. I noticed one item was charged twice. So I thought "hmm should be an easy fix, I'll just email them and ask for a reimbursement". Wrong. What a nightmare it has been to get my money back. So many patronizing emails from them telling me the difference between pending vs charged, showing me my charges, telling me they have to consult with the finance department etc. I'm not an idiot, I know how my credit card works. Absolutely the worst customer service I've ever received and I'll never shop there again.
Edit to add: the last email they sent me outlined how there were 4 charges and listed each amount (one of which was listed twice). I was like yes I know.... that's the problem. Did anyone even this to cross reference with the original order?? Ugh I have to stop obsessing over the stupidity.

I have been an avid aritzia fan since pre-teens, long before they even had a website. I’ve also been fortunate to be a clientele customer for quite some time and remember when you could collect their amazing gwp by going to each “brand” store.
Despite the fact that aritzia has been growing exponentially in popularity, it’s customer service (which was never great to begin with) has gotten worse, not better.
I was so looking forward to clientele this year as I do every year. I went over my cart last night and had everything ready. I log back on when the time is ready and ALL of the agolde in my cart is gone. Not sold out, just gone from the website all together. Those scammers took every popular style off the website so people couldn’t shop the brand 20% off. I know this is new for this year because I usually buy agolde during clientele. When I called concierge later in the morning he said several styles were sold out in every size in every store so I couldn’t use “call and collect” either. Just a total farce.
I spend more at aritzia than any other company and just feel like there is no appreciation for my business anymore.
Their sales policy is terrible. They removed free returns (now $8 is deducted from your order), inventory has become extremely scarce, gwp are no longer offered for clientele, they eliminated extended sizing.. I feel like I could go on and on.
If you’ve gone this far thanks for listening. I would love to know if anyone else shares my concerns. Unfortunately I doubt anything will change as aritzia continues to make more and more money every year.
