Animals by Pink Floyd turns 45 today. My favourite Floyd album with longform songs I get lost in.

For an album that really only has three 10min+ songs coupled with a short intro and outro song forming concept/protest album, it's refreshing that it received positive reviews and was commercially successful. There were no singles for this album. It reached #2 in the UK and #3 in the US. The concept behind this album is roughly based on George Orwell's Animal Farm. The songs Dogs, Pigs and Sheep describe the differential societal classes of the times. Front to back, this album is a political musical journey that paved way for their next album... The Wall.

The new Pink Floyd Animals Remix is amazing

I'm listening to the new remix of animals and about five minutes into Dogs I had to check out the window behind me to make sure there weren't any dogs howling outside. Highly recommend.

To give myself a "mixing/recording project" I decided to cover one of my all-time favorite albums. So visceral, and probably their angriest work. It was a long and sometimes frustrating process, but I hope I did it justice. What do you guys think??

Pink Floyd Animals and Tool Fear Inoculum

Sitting on my patio in nice 75 degree winter temps listening to my prog rock playlist, and a Pink Floyd song from Animals comes on right after a Tool song from Fear Inoculum. The similarities are plentiful. If you took any song from Animals, tuned the bass to D, these could easily be songs on Fear Inoculum.

Heck, even Waters singing on Dogs sounds similar to what Maynard often does when he uses his megaphone.

Let's Discuss: Animals by Pink Floyd

This is the first Pink Floyd album I've done, and it definitely won't be the last. Animals is an absolutely amazing album. It has such a great theme and it flows perfectly. I don't know how I would rank the Pink Floyd albums, but this would definitely be up there. The rankings of this don't matter much because the flow of the album makes it feel like one piece. I slightly prefer some songs over others, but together they make a stellar album. This one won't be too long because I don't have much to say other than it's great. Song Ranking:

Pigs on the Wing 1: The opening song is a simple one and a half minute jig that's nice and soft. This one is my 5th place.

Dogs: A beautiful song that really kicks off the album. It has a beautiful melody and is my favorite "part" of the album by a tiny bit. It's 1st.

Pigs: The sequence remains the same as this carries on a great melody as well. Pigs is amazing and my 2nd favorite "part".

Sheep: Sheep is great and wraps up the massive and grand part of the album nicely, my 3rd place.

Pigs on the Wing 2: Almost exactly the same as Pigs on the Wing 1, but a tad bit better. It wraps the album up beautifully. My 4th slightly.

The album is so hard to rank individually that I didn't put too much effort into it. I kind of want to talk about the album as a whole because that's where it really shines. I apologize again for the late posting, I had another long day and I wasn't feeling the best.

TIL since 8-track tapes have a loop-play function, where after the end the tape is played from the beginning once again, the 8-track version of the Pink Floyd album "Animals" was changed for playing on repeat - a guitar solo connecting the first and the last song on the album was added.
