I have to say android 14 is really great. Huge battery life improvement. I was recharging my pixel 7 pro at least twice a day. Now it lasts all day. Yay!!! As a secondary note, I also got the Google Pixel watch recently and I have to say I'm pretty impressed. The updates that Google released for really improved the battery life and the functionality. I have a Apple watch ultra as well and I kind of like the Google pixel watch better just because it's more comfortable to wear and it works flawlessly with Google Fi. I really hope they make a bigger version in the next generation.

  1. I've noticed the notification icons on top and the navigation bar along with the keyboard just disappear as they will and return in seconds

  2. Minimizing apps has been a real issue, once I pause and try swiping up to exit the app, all the other minimized apps just disappear and reappear, blanking out, the screen becomes quite unresponsive for that moment and it's so frustrating.

I just say battery life and thermal issue have improved from Android 13, buy these are the new shortcomings. I've restarted the phone numerous times to no avail. Anyone else having these issues?

Hi Beta users,

Today, we’re releasing the next beta update for Android 14 QPR3 Beta 1 (AP21.240119.009) which includes the latest bug fixes and optimizations to performance and stability. For details, please review our release notes. Fixes include:

  • Issue #323331515 - Circle to search not appearing past release date. This feature was unintentionally released only to non-Beta users. Beta users should always get the latest features before, or at the same time, as the rest of the public. This issue has been corrected in Android 14 QPR3 Beta 1.

How do I get Android 14 QPR3 Beta 1?

If you’re already enrolled in the Android 14 Beta program, you will automatically receive an over-the-air (OTA) update to QPR3 Beta 1. If you aren't yet enrolled and would like to join Android beta, please visit g.co/androidbeta.

Once enrolled, your device will receive over-the-air (OTA) updates to the latest beta versions. QPR3 Beta 1 is available for Pixel 5a, 6, 6 Pro, 6a, 7, 7 Pro, 7a, 8, 8 Pro, Pixel Fold, Pixel Tablet series devices.

Note: it may take up to 24 hours to receive the OTA update on your device. You can check for updates by going to Settings > System > System updates.

  • If you prefer to leave the beta program and receive the public stable release of Android 14 QPR2, you can do so without wiping your device by opting out and not installing today’s QPR3 Beta 1 update. If you opt-out of the program after installing Beta 1 or any future updates, all user data on the device will get wiped per usual program guidelines. Opting out will trigger a ‘Downgrade’ OTA. Ignore this update and wait for the Android 14 QPR2 public release instead.

So we've had Android 14 on our phones for about 6 to 8 hours. I've noticed two things. Battery life. It feels like I'm getting longer battery life. I used podcast addict for 2 hours last night and I burned through 19% of my battery. I want from 100% to about 81%. Tonight I did a bike ride for 2 hours and I only used about 10%. Exact same conditions. Exact same settings except for Android 14 on my phone

Bluetooth connectivity seems to be better. I can now hear out of both of my earbuds now. Settings for display size have changed. Many more options on the size of your letters on your phone. I like that.

That's All I've got in my limited time using Android 14. What are your thoughts? What differences have you noticed?

You get your updates based on the region your phone is configured to, not the region you're currently located. Android 14 is HERE! (Told y’all it’d be today 😉) Google has just announced that they're uploading the Android 14 source code to AOSP (Android Open Source Project). Once the code is uploaded, I'll dig through it to see if there's any interesting features or changes I missed. If you find anything yourself, send me a tip!

Android 14 is rolling out to the Pixel 4a 5G and later starting today and will be available later this year for devices from Samsung, iQOO, Nothing, OnePlus, OPPO, Realme, Sharp, Sony, Tecno, Vivo, and Xiaomi.

Android 14 isn't being nice to Nova Launcher

It keeps bugging out on me and making icons vanish temporarily and when I swipe to see my most recently used apps it's just a blank screen. The only remedies I've found so far are to either reboot the entire phone or restart the launcher. But these need to be done several times per day now and it only began after upgrading to Android 14. Anyone else having issues with Nova?

Today, we’re releasing the next beta update for Android 14 QPR2 Beta 2 (AP11.231117.006) which includes the latest bug fixes and optimizations to performance and stability. For details, please review our release notes. Some fixes includes:

  • Fixed an issue where battery usage information that was reported in system settings was sometimes incorrect.

  • Fixed an issue where the fingerprint icon on the lock screen would sometimes display before other information had loaded in always-on display mode.

  • Fixed an issue that sometimes caused the biometric prompt to crash, causing it to be dismissed before a user could interact with it.

  • Fixed an issue that sometimes caused the Internet Quick Settings tile to indicate that there was no Wi-Fi connection, even when the device was connected to a Wi-Fi network.

How do I get Android 14 beta 1?

You can get started with Beta 1 today by enrolling your Pixel device (eligible devices include Pixel 4a 5G, 5, 5a, 6, 6 Pro, 6a, 7, 7 Pro series devices). Once enrolled, devices will receive future beta releases automatically.

If your device is already running Android 13 QPR3 or Android 14 Developer Preview, you will automatically receive an over-the-air (OTA) update to Android 14 Beta 1.

Note: Pixel 4a is not eligible for Android 14 Beta. If you have a Pixel 4a device currently enrolled in Android 13 QPR3 Beta, you will continue to receive QPR3 Beta updates including the final stable public release of QPR3 in June.

Important for devices enrolled in Android 13 QPR3:

If you’re currently enrolled in Android 13 QPR3 beta on a device other than Pixel 4a, you will receive Android 14 Beta 1. If you choose not to update to Android 14 Beta 1, but remain enrolled in the program, you will continue to receive QPR3 Beta updates.

You can also opt out of the beta (ignore the downgrade OTA) and wait for the stable public release of QPR3 in June which will allow you to exit the program and get back on the public release without a data wipe.

Hi Beta users,

Today we’re releasing Android 14 Beta 3 (UPB3.230519.008) which includes our latest fixes and optimizations. We’ve also enabled Android Beta enrollment for the new Pixel 7a!

The following issues are fixed in Beta 3:

  • Fixed issues that prevented Wi-Fi calling from being enabled for some devices and carriers. (Issue #277964472)

  • Fixed an issue that caused Direct My Call interactions to fail in some cases where they would normally work. (Issue #278252154)

  • Fixed system issues that caused unnecessary power consumption in some cases.

  • Fixed system stability issues that caused UI jank in some cases.

  • Fixed an issue that caused the system Settings app to crash while setting the wallpaper.

  • Fixed an issue with the system UI that could cause a GPU hang, leading to "Application Not Responding" (ANR) errors.

  • Fixed a system issue that could sometimes cause a device's GPS services to stop working until the device was rebooted.

  • Fixed issues with the IP Multimedia Subsystem (IMS) that could prevent devices from being able to make Wi-Fi calls in some cases.

  • Fixed an issue where a blank screen displays after selecting the "Message" option for a recent caller in the Google Phone app.

  • Fixed an issue where while 3-button navigation was enabled for a device, putting Google Maps into picture-in-picture mode made the picture-in-picture window disappear.

  • Fixed an issue where locking and unlocking a device while playing a video in the Google TV app could cause the device to freeze.

  • Fixed an issue with Android Auto where some users could be asked to re-pair Bluetooth.

  • Fixed issues with Health Connect, including the following issues and other API and system behaviors:

    • An issue where the system back button stopped working while Health Connect integration was in progress.

    • An issue where the Route Permissions screen would sometimes freeze.

    • An issue where Health Connect sometimes couldn't be accessed in system settings.

    • An issue where the data category page of Health Connect was missing some permission types when a filter was applied.

Known Issues:

  • An issue with the Credential Manager platform APIs causes instability in apps that use them. A fix is available in the latest preview version of the Android 14 SDK, which developers can install using Android Studio. Developers who previously installed a preview version of the Android 14 SDK should completely uninstall the previous version and then reinstall the SDK to apply the fix.

  • An issue with the system UI sometimes causes the screen to flicker when a video is playing or an app is using in picture-in-picture mode.

  • In some cases, video continues playing in the background even after closing an app if the video was playing in picture-in-picture mode when it was closed.

  • A video that is playing in picture-in-picture mode stops playing abruptly if the back gesture is used within the PiP settings screens.

  • A system issue can sometimes cause the Android System Intelligence service to crash.

  • When using a device with a work profile, the Google Play Store app in the work profile hangs or crashes when launched.

  • Fixed an issue where SPIR-V sequences of OpShiftLeft followed by OpShiftRight didn't produce the expected results for ARM Vulkan driver versions 43.0 and 44.0. (Issue #314048080)

  • Fixed issues that sometimes caused Bluetooth connections to be interrupted for some devices. (Issue #315324137, Issue #317798832)

  • Fixed issues that sometimes caused a device to crash or become unresponsive after restarting. (Issue #317282987, Issue #316689583, Issue #316188779)

  • Fixed issues that in some rare cases caused devices to reboot while in idle mode. (Issue #316903919, Issue #316557374)

  • Fixed an issue that caused live wallpapers to stop animating. (Issue #312869160)

  • Fixed an issue that prevented Google Assistant from activating in some cases. (Issue #311934282)

  • Fixed an issue that sometimes caused multi-finger gestures to stop working.

  • Fixed an issue where the device's screen didn't initially turn on when the screen was double-tapped or the power button was pressed.

  • Fixed an issue that sometimes caused higher than usual CPU usage during video playback.

  • Fixed a system issue that sometimes caused poor audio quality or higher power consumption when making calls.

  • Fixed an issue where the keyboard was always shown even if the "Swipe up to start search" setting was disabled in system settings.

  • Fixed an issue where sometimes when a user unlocked the device using their fingerprint, there was no haptic feedback.

  • Fixed an issue for Pixel Fold devices where sometimes after a user unlocked the device while it was folded, the inner display didn't turn on after unfolding the device.

  • Fixed various issues that were impacting system stability, performance, connectivity, camera, and accessibility.

Like in previous versions, Android 14 Beta 2 is still in active development so the Android system and apps may not always work as expected. We recommend reviewing the latest release notes before enrolling or installing the Beta 2 update.
