So this guy may one day be in the running for poorest scouted player of all time. Kid has been tearing up the SHL as a 20 year old w 22 G and 35 pts in 55 GP. I am really hoping he comes over this upcoming season but haven't heard anything, was wondering if any of you guys have?

Biography

Andreas Johnson was born on November 21, 1994 in Gävle, Sweden. Andreas started his post-youth hockey career with Frölunda HC, having gone through their development teams until eventually gaining ice time with the senior team playing in the SHL during the 2012-13 season. He was promoted to a permanent role in the SHL the following season.

Andreas is one of the Leafs most interesting prospects. He was drafted in the 7th round (202nd overall) during the 2013 NHL Entry Draft, a selection credited to Bergman. Andreas was skipped over by many due to his apparent "conditioning issues" that lead many to believe that he had poor work ethics. In the summer of 2013 Andreas was diagnosed with asthma and treated. The mystery behind his poor conditioning had been solved and his abilities on and off the ice have since increased.

“I feel like I can skate a lot more, it’s not just 20 seconds and I feel like dying, now I can skate 40 seconds and the next shift I feel good again. I feel more confident and I can do things faster on the ice. I can lift more (in the weight room) and my conditioning is much better, so it’s good.”

Scouting Report

Andreas Johnson is described as a fast-skating winger with very good hands and vision. Johnson can set plays up as well as take the shot himself. He plays with lots of energy, is a , and likes to drive the puck to the net or sneak behind defenders for a back door goal. Since the age of 18 Andreas has been playing with men in the SHL and is getting better by the season. On April 21st, 2014, Johnson was named the SHL Rookie of the Year. He beat out fellow Leafs prospect and teammate Tom Nilsson.

Johnson is a talented but undersized winger who is a quick skater and is adept at passing and stickhandling. He does not play an overly combative game but is willing to go into tight areas if necessary to create scoring chances. As with many young scorers his defensive game is still developing and his size is sometimes a disadvantage.

Andreas has returned to the SHL for the 2014-15 season where he finished with 35 points (22G, 13A) in 55 games.. He was also a key player Frölunda in their 2014-15 Champions HL run where he posted 25 points (11G, 14A) in 12 games. Although Johnson has recently signed a three-year ELC with the Leafs this offseason, he is expected to return to Fölunda to play out the final season on his SHL contract.

Expect Andreas to be on a long term development path, there is no need to rush him. He should be debuting with the Marlies in the 2016-17 season. Andreas is shaping up to be a quality late round selection, all that there is left to see is how he adjusts to North American hockey.

Johnson, although undersized, has the tools needed to become a scoring winger in the NHL some day. He has to work on putting on weight and gaining strength, which is doable.
