Seega is a ancient board game from Egypt

Seega is a small battle game played in Egypt in the 19th and 20th centuries. Two players drop pieces onto a board, leaving only the central square empty, after which pieces are moved around the board from one square to the next. Pieces are captured by surrounding them on opposite sides, and the player who captures all of the opponent's pieces wins the game.

Rules:

  • Seega is played on a board of 5 squares by 5, the central square of which is marked with a pattern. The board starts empty, and each player starts with 12 pieces of his own colour in hand.

  • Players take turns to place 2 pieces each anywhere on the board, except for the central square.

  • When all pieces are placed, the second player begins the movement phase.

  • A piece may move one square in any horizontal or vertical direction. Diagonal moves are not allowed. In this phase pieces may move onto the central square. If a player is unable to move, his opponent must take an extra turn and create an opening.

  • If a player in his move traps an enemy piece between two of his own, the enemy is captured and removed from the board. Diagonal entrapment does not count here.

  • After moving a piece to capture an enemy, the player may continue to move the same piece while it can make further captures. If, when moving a piece, two or three enemies become simultaneously trapped, then all these trapped enemies are captured and removed from the board.

  • It is permissible to move a piece between two enemies without its being harmed. One of the enemies must move away and back again to effect a capture. A piece on the central square is immune from capture, but may itself be used to capture enemy pieces.

  • The game is won by the player who has captured all his enemy's pieces.

GO: The Ancient Board Game Taking Over the Modern World

"It's claimed those looking to truly understand China's meteoric geopolitical rise need look no further than a board game. Nearly 3,000 years after "Go" was invented, it remains the most complex game in the world. Success demands the strategy of an admiral, the calm of a Zen Buddhist, and the logic of a mathematician."

[DEV] Ancient Board Game Collection - Pre-Order has started!

Hello Everyone!

I’m Klemens from Austria and I wanted to show you my new game - The Ancient Board Game Collection! The game lets you discover games like Hnefatafl, played by a thousand years ago by Vikings, or Latrunculi, a game from Ancient Rome. Here is a short trailer:

https://preview.redd.it/2rcdgdplnzm81.jpg

Every game in the app has been designed by a designer from the country of the games origin; and its design is based on art from that country. So for example Hnefatafl has been designed by Albina Lind from Sweden and is based on Viking Rune Stones. Or Bagh-Chal has been designed by Pranuj Shreshtha from Nepal and is based on art from Buddhist temples. The collection includes 9 different of those games from 6 different countries.

The Ancient Board Game Collection comes with a local and online multiplayer, plus a training mode where you can compete against an AI. Everything is accessible through VoiceOver and Voice Control, so that people with vision or motor impairments can also enjoy it too. It will be a free download, to enable you to play the multiplayer with friends without both of you having to buy the game. There will be an In-App-Purchase (1.99$) to unlock all the features of the game.

The game will release in May, but you can already Pre-Order it today on the App Store! Here is the link:

That's it for now! If you have any more questions, feel free to ask. And also happy about any kind of Feedback!

An ancient board game in my world, Uruk Checkers.

So in my world there is an ancient forgotten board game that had been played all over back in the years of Gilgamesh, but is now only remembered by certain magical creatures.

The board consists of an eight by eight checked board, traditionally alternating black and white checks. One player is designated as the black checks and the other as the white.

Each player gets four each of red, blue, and green pieces. Setup is done in this way: the white player going first, he places one piece of any color on any white square in the first three rows. Then, the black player places any color piece on any black square on his first three rows, until each player has used all twelve of their colored pieces, one on the black squares and one on the white.

Gameplay goes like this: With the black player going first, he may move any of his pieces diagonally along any open square in front or behind him, but only to a square of his own color. Once he has moved one piece, it is the other players turn. A player may capture another player's piece by jumping laterally across the other players color, capturing the piece it jumps across. If it is possible to then immediately jump laterally to capture another piece, the player may do so until all such possible jumps are exhausted.

Capturing apiece is limited however. Red pieces may capture green and red pieces, but never blue pieces. Blue may capture red and blue pieces, but never green, and green may capture blue and green, but never red.

the game is won by whoever has the most pieces and no more captures are possible.

I've always enjoyed the idea of lost, ancient board games, so i based this off of a game me and my friends made up when we were little.
