Many people joke, “Anchorage isn’t really Alaska, but you can see it from there.” Some call it ‘Los Anchorage’. And I get it. Alaskans take pride in their reputation as isolated, hardy people battling the elements. That doesn’t evoke images of city life, surrounded by modern conveniences.
Now I'm not so thin-skinned I can’t handle good-natured ribbing, but it bothers me to see visitors given the advice, “Don’t waste any time in Anchorage.” And man, do I see that advice a lot.
I created an : every picture had to be taken in Anchorage. These are pictures from the windows of my apartments, bike rides to work, downtown events, and evening strolls. (The last picture in the album is a map pinning the locations I took the photos.)
Living in Anchorage hasn’t made my experiences as an Alaskan less pure; it’s made it richer. So here’s my advice: if your trip takes you through Anchorage, feel free to explore a little. It’s really Alaska, I promise.

Any suggestions for some laid back dive bars in Anchorage. We’ve enjoyed eating at F street but there must be other enjoyable bars
Currently living in Anchorage and thinking of moving to Alaska. Is there anything I should be aware of? I think I’m pretty suited for cold weather. Last year I endured a record breaking almost 9 feet of snow. What temperatures should I be expecting?

Hello this december I will be in Anchorage for this winter.
I am wondering how tu survive without car. My friends can give me a ride to go groceries or some important places. But I don't want to abuse. However they are very nice and kind.
Be a pedestrian in Anchorage was all an adventure this summer and I imagine that this winter will be a horror with inches and inches of snow. I am afraid I don't want to freezing to death waiting People Mover (Bus) or walking for example 15 or 30 minutes. Or fall on the slippery floor.
I was two times in Alaska. This summer and last march. I am from European Union. We went to walk all places and the distances are more short.
People recommended don't bring snow clothes from my country and get in Alaska. I will take the minimous to be warm. T-shirts and thermal pants. And I will dress in layers like an onion.
I hope that somebody can help me with his/her wise.
Thanks for all.
